studios need to stop giving zack synder money
23 December 2023
I have no idea what i just watched.

It was quite possibly the most wish-washy sci-fi plot of all time, and that's saying something considering how bad the recent star wars films have been.

This film is an incoherent mess. It started off well in the first 15 minutes, but after that, it didnt go down hill, it went straight down to an abyss.

The acting is horrible, the set pieces are predictable, the dialogue is passable.

To stick to the age restrictions they not only dont add any blood despite several characters getting stabbed, they also dumb down the plot too.

The only redeeming part is that the cgi is pretty. But thats it.

Save yourself the time and avoid watching this mess.

Won't pay for another Star Wars film ever
22 December 2019
I have no idea how you could make a movie with such a massive budget this bad.

Storytelling, acting, and even the action scenes were all awful.

Given up on this franchise for life. Took me for granted one too many times!

Predators (2010)
8/10
The hunters become the hunted. Or do they?
9 July 2010
First off, I'd like to say there are a lot of folk that have been bad mouthing this movie because they claim it doesn't live up to the original Predator movie. Well, I say - let those fools be stuck in the past, it's time for the rest of us to move on and enjoy cinema.

The movie is a massive improvement from the terribly written and directed AVP series. The series almost destroyed both the Aliens and Predator franchise. however, with the release of Predators the franchise has been saved.

The storyline is gripping. It doesn't immediately go into action like so many other quick-buck films. It takes it time, using suspense and fear to keep the viewer on the edge of his or her seat. It allows the characters to develop (somewhat) and build relationships with each other.

Once the action does get going, it proves to be violent. Extremely violent. Which is good, as that is the Predators' intention. To violently hunt and kill its prey. The action is 'nitty-gritty' with 100's of camera angle changes every other blow, it all stays in focus and allows the viewer to actually enjoy what they are watching.

The CGI is decent and luckily the movie isn't filled with it adding a further sense of realism. The only fault with the movie would be the silly twist in the middle involving one of the characters. You'll know it when you watch it.

All in all. 'Predators' is a damn good film. It isn't perfect, but certainly is entertaining and worth a first and second watch. Here's hoping the Blu Ray will include some nice extras =]

Seven Pounds (2008)
10/10
Deserves to be on IMDb Top 10 EASILY.
17 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
WOW.

The first hour of the film I was a bit skeptical, but, the second half of the movie truly blew me away.

At first you WILL be like 'urgh.. whats the point in this film?' BUT, if you stick with it, it will AMAZE and SHOCK you! Will Smith's acting is literally top notch as usual. I still say he IS the best actor of the 21st century. Hands down. He really makes the movie a JOY to watch.

The other cast were good too, they had their own key roles to play and played them well! The movie takes a few turns here and there and does some mysterious things at the start (in terms of story) BUT, at the end, everything falls into place and soothes your heart.

This movie isn't about making money, it's about a mans journey to redemption.

It's about Will Smith trying to balance the world in the only way he can. By sacrificing himself.

10/10 All the way. Highly recommended for ANY movie lover and also highly recommended for top 10 IMDb EASILY!!

Fringe (2008–2013)
1/10
Just stick to Lost JJ. Too much mystery BS now.
27 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah. So I watched the Pilot, I was quite impressed. Good twist in the end, good suspense decent acting.

After giving it 5 more weeks, with 5 more poor episodes I've given up watching Fringe.

The acting does not improve after the pilot. The writing is poor and foreseeable. The characters are stereotypical and seriously not interesting at all. JJ tries to get us invested in the lead actress, but it doesn't work. Her acting is poor. Her looks don't make up for her acting either.

The main problem with Fringe however is that there is no 'GRAND' plot at the moment. None of the episodes really intertwine or affect each other.

Another problem is... THAT THERE IS TOO MUCH MYSTERY AND NOT ENOUGH PROGRESSION.

We all like LOST because the characters are likable and we can relate to them. That is why we have invested in LOST although there is so much mystery in it that it is FRUSTRATING it has very likable characters with a decent amount of progression.

Overall, I don't recommend Fringe to anyone, SCI-FI or JJ fans will not be happy with this one.

Taken (I) (2008)
10/10
Seriously. Top 100 movies for IMDb so easily.
10 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Just finished watching this superb film literally ten minutes ago.

Taken is probably this years most under-rated film. Easily. For a person whom enjoyed The Dark Knight, Wanted (although after watching it for the second time I realised how stupid it actually was), Hellboy 2 and Cloverfield.

All movies which I thoroughly enjoyed and would say are probably in my top 100 fave of all time.

I had put off watching Taken for a while purely because I hated Maggie Grace from LOST. But you'll be glad to know her role although it is a 'main role' it isn't really huge in appearances. She's there at the start and she's there at the end. Personally overall, I think she was actually a good actress in the film! Portrayed a young innocent girl quite well, hell - even lied really well! Taken is basically about an ex Marine/Mercanery (Liam Neeson) whom unreluctantly lets his 17 year old girl (Maggie Grace) and her friend who go to Paris. Upon arriving to Paris they are kidnapped by Women Trafficers whom kidnap women, get them addicted to drugs and either make them prostitutes or sell them on to others. The 17 year old girl makes a quick phone call to her father (Liam Neeson) screaming that she is being kidnapped. The father gets a flight into Paris to get her back. Using his Mercanery experience he goes deep into the underworld of Paris to look for clues and information to his daughters whereabouts.

But what makes Taken so much better than Wanted and etc? It's realistic and it shows the world a real problem the world is facing. It isn't about a secret agent who goes against his government/country to get revenge for a girl he knew for like ten minutes. It isn't about a slack job office boy who becomes a lethal bullet bending assassin in twenty minutes. It is a simple, realistic movie that honestly takes you down into the shallowest darkest places of Paris and shows you just how harsh the real world is. It doesn't sugar coat it, it doesn't 'Americanize' it (By Americanize I mean dumb it down, go over the top or make it unbelievable) - it simply shows the viewer just how lethal and scary the underworld can be.

Anyone who enjoys a good action movie, something with a compelling story will LOVE this film. It doesn't have any stupid over the top action scenes, Liam Neeson doesn't have any outrageous gadgets. He doesn't have super powers. He's simply a father wants to find his daughter and to find her he is willing to do anything in the world.

Watch this movie. You will love it. Trust me.

10/10.

A Tale of Woe.
12 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Basically. This movie could easily turn out to be real - hell, I won't be surprised if something like this has already HAPPENED somewhere in the world (most likely it has).

Me and my sister showed this movie to our little brother because he's been caught stealing SEVERAL times from the family business - so we made him watch this and he rather-ed enjoyed it until the killing came along. And we could see it in his eyes, he did begin to think 'what if... that was me'.

What was great about the movie is that it wasn't too predictable nor was it too complex to for a 14 year old to follow.

After watching the movie we lectured him about how a simple theft can lead to more and more crime, and eventually - your life being taken away.

So, not only was it enjoyable - I it was also rather educational.

Godzilla (I) (1998)
9/10
Jean Reno. Godzilla. New York. Amazing. SEVERELY UNDER-RATED.
29 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Yes you heard me. I said this movie is SEVERELY UNDER-RATED. Why? I don't know. Maybe the Japanese couldn't stand to see a Hollywood Godzilla and all of them came on IMDb and gave it a 1 (after all, it does have 5, 000 1's!) which is completely ABSURD as a lot of the Godzilla movie's by the Japanese that I have seen have literally SUCKED. S-U-C-K-E-D.

MechaGodzilla fights Godzilla? Why can't they just shoot the thing with Missiles. Godzille fights an alien monster? WoW. Godzilla returns all were linear and had pathetic acting and choreography.

Now Hollywood decides to make its own Godzilla. Okay, Hollywood are known to take good things and turn them into bad things - like what they are going to do with REC and what they did with Vanilla Sky (sure it was still a great film, but if you watch the original you might change your mind). But seriously, Hollywood SUCCEEDED THIS TIME! Godzilla did offer a good start and a good end. Sure the film is rather unrealistic, but it is - entertaining and fun to watch. The storyline is good, the cast of characters in my opinion was perfect - Jean Reno as hard man was good. Only thing I didn't like was how they didn't exactly explain where his character was from. But I guess that adds to the excitement of the story as it does make the viewer interested from the start about Jean's past.

Overall Godzilla is a solid action movie with the occasional joke. Any monster, action, thriller and horror fan would thoroughly enjoy this movie.

Don't listen to the no obs who hate this movie thinking it's a carbon copy rip off. It isn't. And it deserves a much better score than 4.7.

Star Trek: Enterprise (2001–2005)
10/10
It's good. But not Great.
25 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Many Trekkie's feel that this new Enterprise is bad and has pour script writing. However, many compare compare it to previous Trekkies such as the Next Generation and The Original Series. I know it isn't as great as the previous shows, but as a series on it's own, it stands strong and in my opinion, HIGHLY under-rated.

First off, the actors.

Overall, the cast is strong. Some cast members are questionable; Mayweather for instance is rather 1 dimensional and a poor actor. He doesn't have a interesting background story and IMO a useless 'support actor'. Commander Archer isn't bad - but at times his character can be frustrating. He seems rather careless and doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes - how many times did the ship get invaded during its run? Countless and almost too many times. However, their are some actors that really carry the show, Jolene Blalock and Dominic King for instance, and also the actor that plays Dr. Floxx. All 3 actors/actress' are very convincing and really do keep the show interesting.

The story Arch's are good and bad. Their are several episodes that really are useless (I know they may be fillers, but their is a difference between a good filler episode that has SOMETHING to do with the overall story arch and just a plain old BAD episode) such as: The Chosen Realm, Mayweather's useless background story episode and also Extinction. All three episodes didn't offer much interest nor did they have anything to do with the overall story arch. Chosen Realm was my main disliking as it was predictable and offered no conclusive ending either.

Don't get me wrong though, there are SEVERAL episodes that contain extremely skilled story telling and great twists and turns. Twilight for example is in my opinion CLASS A - it really does offer more insight and information of the IMPORTANCE of Commander Archer at a time where he was becoming a really unpopular character. It made me see the whole STORY and character in a different light, it also had a good hint of mystery and suspense in it. In all honestly had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole episode. Another skilled episode was the Cogenator - one with GOOD acting, good storytelling and it really did create a strong bond with the viewer. The ending contained a great twist and made me really think about LIFE in general and how I look at things.

Alas, the good stories are far and few. Some story arch's really were useless and a waste of time. Whilst others just seemed out of place and poorly executed.

All in all though, Enterprise is worth a look for any space/alien lover. Good acting, Good storyline and a good energy about it. However though, there are some episodes that will really get on your nerves, but please, don't let these deter you from an otherwise great T.V. show.

I want my money back.
22 July 2008
I just spent £20 buying this movie on BLU RAY.

Like seriously. I love action films, I love good twists. I love epic movies. But I hate The World if Not Enough.

Brosnan just could not act all too well at all. The action scenes were boring and literally TOOO over the top, even for a James Bond film. The story really didn't go anywhere, nor did it interest me from the start! I feel bad for Denise, her role in this pathetic movie really dampened a promising looking career. Her acting wasn't exactly AMAZING, but it topped Brosnan's hands down.

What really got me was the fact that Brosnan's stunt double probably had more time on screen than he did! I know a lot of the scenes were dangerous and etc, but he could have grown some balls and done one or two scenes himself (like Daniel Craig).

God, I've said more than enough. I don't recommend this film to anyone, at ALL! If you want a good action packed movie with suspense and good acting try Casino Royale.

Vexille (2007)
9/10
Don't listen to the haters. Watch this movie!
22 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS** I bought this movie on DVD expecting to get me through a boring night or at least give me cheap laugh at it's pitiful attempt to 'be'/'beat' Appleseed.

20 Minutes into the movie. I was hooked, shocked and more importantly - GLAD I bought the film! What's so good about Vexille that it (in my opinion) tops Appleseed? It's everything as a whole! First off, the storyline.

Its set in Japan in the near future.

Although many say it's too weak, not interesting enough and rather linear. They fail to realise the brilliance of the story! Instead of the typical and overused human's creating robot like humans Vexille does something which is the exact opposite! It focuses on a crazy Company called 'Daiwa' which develop a virus that slowly mutates/transforms the human DNA into metal! Then they get the government to unleash an illness that requires the whole Japanese population to be vaccined. (Really, the vacination is the mutation virus). Slowly the body turns into metal then finally, the virus attacks the brain causing the brain to be taken over by the virus and then controlled, so that Daiwa can control the humanoid's! That's the jist of what has happened in Japan. I've spoiled some parts of the story, but left out what actually takes place IN the film.

Now the story does have some weak points like not explaining WHY the Daiwa company are wanting to turn human's into humanoids (of course they want to take over the world, but WHY exactly?!?). And HOW exactly the government got involved in this... But that should all be explained in the next movie which will probably be a Prequel.

The CGI/2D Shaded graphics design is nothing new, it's used in Appleseed. The design of the characters are much like Appleseed too, but what really makes it unique are the robots and the 'jags'! I've watched a lot of anime's and Japanese movies and let me tell you. The Jags are probably the most unique robot/enemy I have ever seen! They are the main reason why this movie differs enough from Appleseed.

Again, the only problem is, we are told WHAT the Jag's are doing in Japan, but we aren't told HOW exactly they are built and etc. Another problem I hope the second movie deals wth.

The movie is filled with a mix of action, drama and tension to keep you interested and not bored.

Overall, Vexille is a good compact eye catching movie that will hook any anime/robot lover from start to finish.

Give it a solid 8.5/10.

One for the children.
22 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I'm still not 100% sure about this movie.

The whole plot is just literally something that you'd tell a child before they would go to bed. Yet for some reason, it was still rather entertaining.

First off, we have this random boy who's interested in martial arts, then after a small scuffle with the neighbourhood hoodlums, he is told to give a magical staff to its rightful owner. And suddenly he's in a new realm altogether where the Asian folk from the at least, 500 years ago can speak English rather well. Still, I let the writer off, since I'd rather listen to an English speaking person than have to read subtitles all the time.

Then suddenly, Chan and Lee begin fighting for no reason at all, literally no reason. And then become best of friends after a few words. Okay I suppose fans were really really dying for this fight scene (it was a good fight scene) but I couldn't help but think it lasted just a tad too long.

Anyways, back to the point.

The dialogue is very weak, any intelligent person would be insulted by it. Hence why I reckon this movie would be more loved by children than it would be by adults. I just can't help but think if the writer actually took some time and read over the script and FIXED the poor dialogue this movie would have been SO much better.

In the end, I found myself liking the film anyway! Why? I'm not 100% sure. I think its the all-star cast of Jet Lee and Chan that made me like it a lot more. Both played their roles rather well.

Overall, the movie falls short of AMAZING, but does just enough to entertain adults and children till the end.

Funny and also somewhat believable
19 June 2008
Just watched the movie earlier there and it turned out to be quite good. The storyline was kept tight and the acting was good too.

Don't really know what the main factor is, but the movie just worked well. Owen's got this certain likability factor about him in all his movies and I think this movie would have sucked if it wasn't for him being in it.

The humour is verified throughout the movie, sometimes its haha funny, other times its offensively funny - whilst other times its just funny.

The nerds looked and sounded like nerds, the bullies looked and even acted really well like bullies too.

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the uselessness of 'Jim' and the two younger sons. They just annoyed me to death.

I recommend watching it your partner or even some friends.
