Sense8 (2015)
Ignore the critics, Wacth the damn show
I truly don't think people get it. I really don't. Consider, I mean really think about how you would tell the story of eight separate, maybe discordant inner lives coming together into a shared experience? Would it be smooth, flowing composition with all the pieces filled in or would it be transition from radically different points of view, sometimes jarringly different, growing into to a kind of harmony? When I see people complaining about the lack of consistency, especially in regards to the first few episodes, it seems that they have missed the point: this was done on purpose.
Yes, some of the scenes can be a bit preachy and yes, there most certainly are information dumps to be found. I defy anyone to find any sci-fi show that does not have this feature/flaw. The X-Files did so on a weekly basis for years. Get over it. And, of course there is the sex and sexuality in the show which has riled up all the A's and neck beards. I've never seen so much hand wringing over the alienation of straight people...except any and every other time a show has a LGBT character. I find it very amusing that people who will read graphic, pornographic fan-fiction about about My little Pony or whose IMDb lists include things like Brown Bunny or 9 Songs suddenly get the vapors watching the simulated sex here. And, inevitably, we have to hear about how these scenes, (of monogamous couples having sex...like couples tend to do) by way of that alienation, are actually making people turn away from the message the writers are trying to send. Again, the critics miss the point: message isn't about trying to get others to see us as normal, the mythical gay agenda or the approval of sci-fi fans of the queer amongst them. The message is people in relationships have sex.
Now all this is clearly visible and some might say blatant. This in turn, seems to have caused people to decide that, the writers have lost the ability to be subtle. I don't think so. I think it becomes increasingly clear as the story progresses to it's penultimate moment, as the characters become more connected - literally - the story telling becomes more cohesive. I think this was done on purpose, to give the feel of what this coming together would be like. And, if anyone was paying attention, you can already see how the lives of the eight are already threaded together in more ways than the obvious.
The show is beautiful, the cast is amazing and the action scenes are the best I've seen in a show in a very, very long time. I don't even think the critics can fault any of the above. I came to this show with zero expectations. I had never heard of it before I saw it on the Netflix homepage even though I knew of and like nearly all the actors. I watched the whole thing in one go. Ignore the critics attempting to deconstruct the themes, elements and overall composition. Watch the show and see if you find your disbelief suspended for yourself. I'm not saying you will love it, I'm just saying I did.

Objective Filming Makes For Excellent Documentary
I thought that by watching this i would gain some insight into the lives of young men and women in the Navy and I was not disappointed. It was a wonderfully candid look into the lives of these people aboard what truly is a city at sea. This documentary was a perfect example of what a sincere desire to tell as accurate a story possible can achieve. There were no subjects off limits and no agenda imposed onto the story. Just the people dealing with the situation they found themselves in at the moment. I am a unabashed liberal in my daily life and I found this just as compelling as an ex-Navy republican friend did. Whats more, the series got him to talk about HIS experience in Iraq; something I've been trying to get him to do for years. There were some serious discussions that came from our watching this, some new understandings and of course, some new disagreements. If you have a chance to watch this please do.
