Dead to Me (2019)
Season Three Warning
Season Three is Amazing. More drama than comedy but so engaging and addictive. The best show I have watched this year. The warning is : If you or a loved one is going through a very difficult medical condition and treatments...... this season three can be very triggering and maybe not very entertaining. Hits too close to home. Season one and two were fun and full of dark comedy twists but season three is a whole different ballgame. Well-written, unique, surprising, and really speaks to what a special relationship girlfriends can have. It's a special friendship that we should all have in our lives like Judy and Jen.
The Crown (2016)
Margaret Thatcher
I can't take the phony accent. Margaret Thatcher never sounded this bad in real life. Every time she speaks it sounds like she is gasping for her last breath.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
How to rate this?
I started watching this knowing absolutely nothing about it. After watching the entire film I know very little about it. It started rather sweet and innocent and then took off in every direction. I gave it a 6 because I had fun trying to figure it out. It was interesting and annoying. I found the lead actor playing the role of Jake reminded me of Matt Damon . (Sorry Matt)
Pamilya ordinaryo (2016)
Engrossing, Engaging and then.......
I was totally interested in this film. It pulled me in and was engaging and engrossing. The ending was a huge disappointment for me.
The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015)
Needs Subtitles
Visuals looked good. Storyline looked good. Beautiful actress. I had to give up on the film however because I was having such a hard time understanding any of the dialogue. The father mumbled. The children spoke in a heavy old world dialect. I needed a translation to know what was going on.
Judy (2019)
Oscar
Amazing acting by Renee. Please bring the Oscar out right now and hand it to her. An incredible performance and I am not even a fan of this actress.
Roma (2018)
Spoiler Alert
Synopsis: Life is a never ending pile of dog poo. Sorry my review is too short. But I was trying to boil down all the symbolism in this film down to the basic moral of the story. Well done and artistic.
45 Years (2015)
Sound Track (spoilers)
I think many people have memories of past loves. But we move on. What makes this situation particularly devastating lies in the fact that the husband tells the wife that the ex was older than him. The wife is often listening to music from the 60s. Husband is listening to music from the 50s. At the end of film the wife realizes that at their anniversary party they are probably dancing to what was "their song" ( husband and the ex). His happy times were recreating the times he had with his ex.
Ozark (2017)
Bateman?
Bateman gets all the accolades? Yes he does a nice job of standing around looking bewildered. Every scene he looks bewildered and he has a lot to be bewildered about! I believe the real acting award goes to the woman who plays Ruth Langmore. She is the star of the show . And Laura Linney is perfect for her role. A crime drama is not my genre but I enjoy it because of the children in the show. This gives the show a great twist and another level of interest and point of view. Very graphic but entertaining.
Following Sean (2005)
I fell in love with Sean
I love this film. I immediately fell in love with the young boy Sean. I agree with another reviewer that I would have liked to learn more about what his life was like during the 30 years he was not being filmed. Yes, the film was mostly about Ralph and not Sean but I think that was kind of the point. It is that we are all part of the human family and there are parallels in what would seem to be such different lives (in this case Ralph and Sean) . There is no moral to the story, no conclusion, nothing specific to be learned. It is just about life. How it throws people into all sorts of crazy situations, most times without our consent. As a teacher, I feel I have seen it all and it seems that so many times there are children who will do well despite their upbringing and those who will flounder despite every opportunity and support imaginable. Most parents do what they think is best for the child and then just hope and pray they turn into happy, healthy, contributors to society. I now want to find the original film of Sean at age 4 and see the whole thing. I gave this film a 10, I loved every minute of it.
(500) Days of Summer (2009)
punchline is the last word
This was a believable film about unrequited love. I thought the film was quite slow moving and hard to sit through. It was annoying how he chased after her and she was so cold toward him. I suppose this happens a lot in real life. I think the actor who played Tom did a great job but I found the role of Summer to be very annoying. Why would he fall for her? Nothing much happens throughout the whole film until the end. It gets interesting towards the end of the film and then the last word of the film is classic. I do like the theme of hope. I am glad I sat through the whole film and was able to get to the ending because the last word in the film is the punchline to a long, boring joke.
Mr. Brooks (2007)
far fetched story but highly entertaining
Usually I don't like a film that is so far fetched and unbelievable. But in this case I found a very entertaining and exciting thriller in the style of Fatal Attraction. One of the most unbelievable things that happen in the film is that someone wishes to ride along with a serial killer to watch how it's done for a "thrill". It's a great story though and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I really liked that the story isn't over and I really hope they make a sequel and let us know what happens next especially with Mr. Brooks' family! If no one thought of it I hope the producer reads this comment and considers making a second film about this very interesting family and their exciting exploits.
Rescue Dawn (2006)
Deiter Dengler was an incredible person
All the quibbling about how true all the incidents in the film are is Not important. The film portrays the prison camp as a 4-star hotel compared to how Deiter himself described it in the documentary of his ordeal called "Little Deiter Must Learn to Fly". You should rent that and you will realize that the point of the film is that Deiter Dengler was an incredible person. It was his positive attitude and sense of adventure that got him through all he had been put through. And I must add that Christian Bale did an outstanding job of portraying his unique personality. And politics aside, this is a true story although many details may have been changed to make it a more entertaining film , it was a VERY successful movie because he gave a very realistic portrayal of the great man it is about .
