Lat sau san taam (1992)
"As a cop, he has brains, brawn, and an instinct to kill."
First 18 minutes as follows:
Cop playing saxophone for 8 minutes. Insane shootout out of of nowhere with crazy slow mos, sliding down rails, dual wielding, so on and so forth for 10 minutes. In other words, this movie is awesome. There are so many gunshots it's normalcy. Practical effects are so great I miss them.
Vert (2019)
Talented Filmmaker
Corny. Good message but corny. Music and all. Wish the lens wasn't so wide all the time, either.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Visuals bring you back
Basically, after 3 episodes, I've discovered that every other scene is kinda dumb but the visuals and audio are incredible for an OLED and ATMOS setup so I keep watching. That's about it. Wouldn't watch otherwise. Maybe it gets better.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Worth Watching
The first thing that should be said is we get to see Sandler act, care, and he does a good job. I wouldn't put him on a top 5 list of the year I think, have to see every movie, but because an actor usually does stupid comedies that do not require acting and then does a good movie does not mean he is amazing or top 5 in my opinion.
I really liked the main plot as it was a unique story. It was super interesting and fast paced. This is a very stressful movie, emulating arguments and multitasking better than maybe any other movie I've seen.
With that said, the first ten minutes (after Ethopia) was borderline unbearable due to the way the music was mixed in to me and at home I might have just turned it off. I'm glad I stuck through, worth the watch for the story and to see Sandler care again.
Ad Astra (2019)
Good Movie!
First off, I was in love with this movie's visuals on my OLED TV. It was amazing.
The other stuff...
This movie isn't so much a sci-fit exploration movie or anything like that, it is definitely more of a slow drama which may automatically put it at risk due to mainstream audience expectations. Throughout the movie we still feel the vastness of space in a sense by wide angle shots, the character Roy using technology on the ship, and the discussion of length and distance for some of the trips.
I appreciated we didn't get too bogged down in the science as this will make a film and it's running time extend far to explain stuff that doesn't matter for the movie's sake. If we explained the science for everything it could add another 30 minutes to the movie. With that said, I think some people appreciate the science and consider this a bummer.
I'll admit.... the baboon is bad. There must be another way writers could have figured out how to kill off that character. I also thought the voice overs were a bit overused.
I did enjoy the pirate moon chase... I saw complaints but when has that ever been done before, especially in a way that landed to such great visuals? I think this was a very good movie deserving of its critic score on rottentomatos (87% at this time).
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Favorite Movie
Saving Private Ryan is my favorite movie of all time... for now. True classic.
