Villains (2019)
It's a story
First I thought this was going to be a thriller or something, but it was more of a twisted story.
I saw in other reviews that it lacked excitement and was slow, I must disagree as for this type of movie this is exactly the way it should be. I wasn't bored for one second.
I genuinely laughed so much as well, because it does have some random absurd stuff and man I loved it, it made me just burst out laughing!
It also touched some deeper feelings and had a quite beautiful ending to be fair. Something also unexpected. And even if you can't take it seriously during the movie, the end still has an effect.
This movie is a story of a story of a story that goes on with 100% random twists - that are not life changing, however funny and entertaining. Acting was absolutely brilliant, couldn't have been better casted. Overall I know I will watch this again. Great one.
It Lives Inside (2023)
Slow and boring story line, terrible CGI
This film started out as it may have a potential but quickly it got boring.
The conversations are slow, emotionless and extremely boring. Like they talk about nothing, some people just moan randomly and make weird noises. Then the cursed girl doesn't die, but a random boy does - also in a literally funny way. The boy gets choked by playground swings whilst some weird wolf noises are heard and then vampire marks appear on his neck.
Whilst the teacher is getting chased in the school by this UFO hedgehog fish tadpole bone dog vampire thing, which probably takes around 15 minutes, the main girl and her mom cook a 3 course dinner with a birthday cake, do henna tattoos and the mom starts teaching how to read Hindi to her daughter - like what?! How's that possible in that timeframe? The actress who plays the mom was horrible like literally felt like she had absolute no emotions but hated her daughter lol.
The monster hedgehog fish bone dog was ridiculous. Like literally funny. And then the CGI was like it was glitching through the screen.
No scary scenes, no jump scares, no nothing.
The longer you watch the funnier it gets especially by the end, impossible to take it seriously as a horror movie. Idk how it is over 5 on IMDB. This is comedy.
The Picture of Dorian Gray (2023)
Slow, but has a great ending
I wouldn't at all categorise this as horror, so not sure why Amazon prime decided on that!
It's a love story. Not just a simple love story, but a story about keeping love in your heart "till the end of time".
First, I was not interested and seemed a bit slow-paced and boring even, but somehow the end made up for it all and I kind of was happy about starting slow.
The last minutes, when the narrator talks about love, I immediately teared up. Because I had someone too, to think about, who I really loved. And I still do. And it is painful. I was crying and listening and I could feel every word trembling in my heart, because that is exactly how I felt and I wished I could just go and share this with them.
I won't say this is a movie for everyone. Maybe for the ones with a broken heart. Maybe it will give them the hope they mention and let their heart rest, after feeling so lonely for so long, and being so broken.
I gave a 6, because I think some things could've been better, such as explaining more background on the aunt. She apparently was a great actor but hasn't left the house for 70 years - which is very odd. Did she have a photograph too? Maybe I missed this. I feel like there were some scenes where more explanation could've been given on the background.
The effect when Dorian dies was also a bit off. Could've used better effects in 2023!
Overall, I would recommend it.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Masterpiece!
This is by far the most amazing movie I've ever seen. The music, the actors, the story... it's cruel and beautiful at the same time, just as life is.
I have bought the book after watching it the first time, and I have no regrets.
Whilst, it might not be for everyone for its harsh parts, I recommend it for anyone, who appreciates the art of theatre.
If I could watch it again for the first time, I would do so everyday.
The story and endings make you think of life, the narration is 10 out of 10, the camera movements, I have not one bad thing to say.
The aftermath: you might rethink how lucky you are and forget about your sadness for a moment. You will see how human beings can be terrible, disgusting and cruel, but also kind, loyal and heartwarming. And that everyone gets what they deserve at the end, be it good or bad.
Deep (2021)
Had some potential
This had some potential, but way too many plot holes as mentioned by others... the fact that we see 4 medical students who are not able to remove a chip in their who knows which year of medicine (but work on dead people) is a bit of a stretch. The acting was not so great either. It's good for background noise really.
Also it made me specifically laugh when the German doctor was like "she's gonna die if you don't come back with you friends muhaha" like lol. That was so childish and completely ruined the whole built up to a "very serious experiment". So, overall is a no from me. I would not watch it again.
