I guess the book meandered, but the philosophical and visual beauty on the page made it worth it. That doesn't translate as well to the screen, so while I was a fan of the book, I found myself a bit bored with series and didn't make it all the way through.

Snappy Genre-Bending Series

It's part science fiction, part thriller, part comedy, part drama. It's hard to classify, but it's overall engaging with strong performances and good twists and turns. Just when it feels like the story is getting repetitive, it picks up again. Really good series.

Had its Moments

This movie was JUST funny enough to keep watching but not quite funny enough for a glowing review. Melanie Lynskey plays the type of role that usually plays lately - the rumpled, flawed middle-aged woman with the baby girl voice - and while I like her, it felt like I'd seen it all before, more than once. What was fresh and different was Ryan Phillipe's ridiculous character. His scenes were the most entertaining.

Monster Fish

It's tough to stick a monster episode toward the end of the season when we're dying for more Angel-Spike-Drusilla stuff. If this were a season 1 episode, it'd be one of the better ones, but it's a late season 2 episode, so its placement hurts it. But overall, I found it quite funny and fun and entertaining. Love the scene where Cordelia thinks Xander is a fish monster!
Very creative episode

I feel like the ghosts at the 1950s dance (or versions of that, a 'la dream sequences) is way overdone in TV and movies, but this one carries way more weight because of the way Buffy and Angel are affected by it. So the first half of it was very slow to me, but the last parts of it were very powerful!
Follows a tough act...
5 June 2022
This episode follows one of the best (or maybe THE best) Buff episode to date, so it's a tough act to follow, esp. When all we want it more, more, more Angel, Spike and Drusilla. That said, if I JUST review it as a standalone monster episode, it's still a little boring to me.
Incredible Episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is so good, but it's shocking and gut-wrenching to watch with Jenny's death and Giles finding her (and others' reactions). Heavy drama and well-done, but it's also kind of a difficult episode to watch because it's so well done. As sad as it is to lose Jenny, it feels a necessary plot/character point, in order to make Angel THAT bad and thus set up the emotions of things to come...
Pure Fun

Xander is a character who represents the lovable loser who we always root for. Sometimes he steps up (saving Buffy more than once!), but socially and romantically he takes a lot of hits, so this premise is pure fun. I love the ending too!

One of the best of the series

This episode is one of the best Buffy episodes, period. From the deeper storytelling and coming of age/sexuality aspects to the dark fun of seeing Bad Angel for the first time.... it's just good on so many levels. Basically, every level. 10+
And so it begins...

Season 2's mid-season turn begins here. Dramatic, romantic, suspenseful, and funny. The inclusion of Oz as the new one in the group and his fish-out-of-water reactions add great humor. If you've watched Buffy, you know what's to come so that makes this episode more powerful.
Fun eggs

This episode is fun overall with the dumb cowboy brothers and Buffy's mother seeing her as irresponsible when she's literally saving the world! Ha. A standalone monster episode but the through thread that's evolving is Xander/Cordy which I love.

Mixed Bag

I like that Angel is captured so we can finally see that dynamic between him, Spike, and Dru. I don't like gross bug man monster, and Kendra isn't my favorite character overall. The ending is fun with everyone coming together in dramatic style.
Not my fave
1 June 2022
The premise is good, but ick, the bugs are gross. And I'm not a huge Kendra fine. She's a little one-note, but the fake accent is the part I can't get past. Is it Jamaican? Irish? It doesn't sound consistent or real to me. That aside, Buffy and Kendra's banter is pretty fun in parts, and I like the building relationship between Cordelia and Xander.

Awesome Episode
1 June 2022
This is a great episode as a standalone episode and as a serial episode with progressing the season's storylines. Everyone (almost everyone) turns into their costumes and it's both hilarious and makes for good, unique suspense/action. Probably very fun for some of the actors to get to play against type. And Spike is a big part of the episode too. 10/10.
Cordy's evolution begins

Warning: Spoilers
Barely.. that is. I love where things head with Cordelia and the group, and Cordelia and Xander, so I appreciate this episode for the early setups of that. Otherwise, it's a "monster" episode with Buffy and Cordelia in distress (again). Fun overall.
Entertaining Monster Episode

Spike is here!!!
1 June 2022
Finally, he's hereeee! This is a very good episode with Buffy's mom being in on the action and the comedy that comes from people either trying to explain away supernatural elements or the reveal that they may know more than we realized. The Spike/Angel/Xander scenes are great. This is the point where season 2 REALLY begins!
The Walking Dead

A decent episode with Cordelia in peril. Pretty funny with some witty one liners. I forgot how inactive Angel can be in early seasons - mostly lurking around but not incredibly capable of fighting himself. The Giles and Ms. Calendar romance is fun.
Emo Buffy

Warning: Spoilers
The new season gets off to a different start with Buffy very emotional yet closed off over that whole The Master Killed Me thing. I'm glad that the Master didn't actually come back as that character already ran his course in s1. This episode feels like a bit like a holding pattern before the arrival of Spike. The last scene where Buffy realizes that Xander and Willow forgive her is actually quite sweet even with the overpowering cheese soundtrack.
