Inside Job: My Big Flat Earth Wedding (2021)
The references are consistently hilarious
This show is packed full of Easter eggs and subtle references, some more on the nose than others.
The fact that Joe Rogan fans are writing butthurt reviews about it already makes it 10 times funnier.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Please Sign Here (2021)
Getting better and better
The way this show flows between hilarious and sad is unbelievable. I feel as though the characters have developed so much over the past few episodes but it's also difficult to tell where they will end up.
Great storytelling and I am looking forward to next week!
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
A warning of things to come?
I grew up with Brosnan's Bond so I may be a little biased, but I love this movie.
As time has gone on it has aged very well too. In 1997 a billionaire media mogul spreading fake news seemed incredibly far fetched, but in the current age of information it's almost prescient.
A stellar performance from the cast and a nice blend between dark moments and classic light hearted Bond.
Raised by Wolves: Mass (2020)
Taking it into the unknown
I feel compelled to write a review at this point because it seems a few 'reviewers' are uncomfortable with an original direction.
The fact that we have now progressed on to something completely unheard of seems not to sit well with people. The whole series has been building up to this incredible twist, we have an android who is programmed for motherhood and is now also pregnant (somehow). We don't yet know if this is part of her programming or a 'Virus', meanwhile, mirroring this, an adopted mother is learning what it means to be a mother as the 'father' and person she loves is descending into madness. At this point we are still unsure if there is an explanation for the voices in his head; there very well could be some mysterious deity at work on this supposedly uninhabited planet which we have now learned has some strange creatures living on it.
The show is taking our preconceived notions about both religion and atheism and turning it on its head episode to episode. Wherever you stand on that there's definitely something interesting to be found in 'Raised By Wolves'. Ignore the bad reviews, I feel like people are getting annoyed that it doesn't fit their preconceived notion of the sci-fi genre.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Cliche after cliche, how this is getting ANY good reviews is beyond me
Firstly, I should state that I went into this film with no real expectations of any sort. I found the first movie watchable but not terrible. This sequel however, was awful.
Don't get me wrong the effects are good, and there's plenty of action. That's where the positives end. The plot is contrived, messy, and manages to shoehorn in every cliche known to man.
(spoilers from hereon in)
One thing that really irritated me was the 'climate disaster' subplot, which almost feels like it was put in as an afterthought. If anything it trivialises the issue, which should not just be used as a plot device. The film is bloated, jumps around too much, and would probably have been served better across multiple movies, although I definitely won't be watching further instalments.
The acting is bad, you can almost tell everyone agrees it's a poorly written script. From Kyle Chandlers 'reluctant and troubled hero' to Vera Fermiga's 'questionable motives for the greater good'.
Even supporting characters get to play with cliches. Ken Watanabe's character decides to sacrifice himself, due to multiple convenient plot holes allowing the protagonists to go and blow up Godzilla's underwater house with a nuke. Charles Dance is good when you see him, but his character disappears without explanation during the third act.
Millie Bobby Brown also puts in a good performance, I like her as an actor but her skills are wasted here. Her character manages to run from an outpost to a football stadium in 5 minutes, which then conveniently happens to be right next to her house, somehow miraculously still standing after the giant alien kaiju destroys everything around it.
Yeah, it turns out the main antagonist of the movie is an ancient alien that has been frozen for millennia... because why the hell not? By the time that revelation came I was just surprised no one had woken up to find out it was all a terrible dream. I kind of wish it was a dream, then I wouldn't have wasted 2 hours of my life.
I've never walked out of a film, but this time I was very close. To conclude, a very strong contender for worst film of 2019.
305 (2008)
laugh out loud
I just saw this movie and i loved it, first of all its very low budget. The whole thing was done on a green screen and although it may sound rubbish the overall effect is really good.
The main characters are 5 pretty crappy Spartans who weren't at Thermopylae, instead they were given the task of guarding the secret goat pass, which they fail to do resulting in Leonidas and the 300 dying. They then become the laughing stock of Sparta and now Claudius, Darryl, Demetrius the Blind, Shazaam and Testicleese have to go on a heroic journey to show themselves as true Spartans with no weapons and no brains. Just the desire to prove themselves as warriors.
Its a great comedy with loads of laugh out loud moments and a really hot girl. It has a big internet following and a growing amount of fans. Well worth watching in my opinion.
