Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010)
Though thinly true to source material, still very enjoyable.
I am on book 11 of the "Guardians of Ga'Hoole" series as I write this review, and I admit it was the trailer for this movie that made me read it. But now so far into the series I finally saw the adaption. There were several things I liked and disliked. One, the visuals are amazing. I saw this at home on my normal television and I can only imagine what this movie looked like at an Imax theater in 3D. second, the story( though differing at many points from the series) is enjoyable for a film. While reading earlier reviews I had made the assumption that they had done to this series what they had done to Eragon (don't remind me), but I was wrong. Though many of the characters were displayed incorrectly from their book counterparts (Twilight, Digger??), and several characters from later books introduced, story switched around, and changed heavily yada yada. I did like, however, how they set it up for a sequel. I feel that, if they do make sequels, that they can manage to cram all from the books into the films while not necessarily going in order. So overall it made not have been a fully faithful adaption (and believe me I've seen so much worse *cough*CirqueDuFreak*cough*) but it was still an enjoyable, visual delight.
Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed (2008)
sadly, it hardly lives up to its predecessors
don't get me wrong. i love this series. it is one of my favorite video game series of all time, but unfortunately this just does not live up to the others. When i bought this about 2 days after it came out, i expected an awesome sequel. I hoped it would overrule the last as DAH2 did to the first. I expected awesome guns and environments, but sadly i was wrong. What i found was a game that was poorly animated and put together. The enviorments have become a meer drawing by a 5 year old child. Another thing that really makes me mad is that you can no longer read people's thoughts. This makes you feel disconnected from the people and lonely. Also, half the humor of the other two, was hearing people's strange and interesting thoughts. And now that pandemic is no longer working on the game there are new voice acting that is absolutely terrible. How can you possibly replace the voices of the other two games? Also, glitches in the game make progress in the game extremely hard. If you touch water, you die, really? So, this new company better get there heads out of their asses if they want to make a better game. Lets hope that Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon does somewhat better than this. From the preview, it is already known that the voices are still different which is already a downside. I will not know since i don't have an X Box 360, which i deeply regret. But, i strongly hope that it will be a leap up from this game, which just didn't cut it.
