Unbearable Film Scoring/Music
12 July 2021
This is my second attempt to watch this film after 13 years and I failed again to complete watching it. At the first time, I thought maybe I wasn't in the right mood and I couldn't get into it enough. But this time I realized that the director's choice for using a sinister, disturbing film scoring (music) going on ALL THE TIME no matter what is happening on the screen kills it for me. This is something that happens with cheap TV films or amateur student shorts, a veeery wrong use of scoring. Of course, since this is a big movie with enough budget, the scoring and the recording and mixing is brilliant. So, it's not about the music or the composer but the director's choice.

I get that most people don't even notice this kind of thing and enjoy the film but I couldn't help it. Maybe it's because I'm a musician.

Undoubtedly Daniel Day-Lewis is an incredible actor and he acts brilliantly in this film too.

This is no twist, it's a cliché!
21 November 2019
I'm not giving spoilers. This is just a warning if you, like me, can predict a very predictable ending. Duh, this movie screams its ending from its start.

I started to watch the movie and right on the start when the daughter said "Don't hurt me daddy" I guessed the ending. Then I paused and came here in disappointment to check the user reviews if I'm right and thanks to the idiot who wrote a review as "I was wrong, then I was wrong again. Good twist.", I thought that the movie will advance in an unpredictable direction and chose to continue! Man, you were not wrong, it's just that you have lower-than-average iq or you're paid to drop a good review for this p.o.s. movie!

Don't waste your time, we have seen this a million times. Besides, the movie is depressing. A real bad way to spend 2 hours.

A star is not that easily born...

I'm a music professional and 90% of films about music makes me frustrated because of their totally false and misleading details about music. I'm leaving this film by its 40th minute after watching the scene where Bradley Cooper surprises Gaga on his gig by starting to play her song with a perfect arrangement and they performed it together perfectly... He hears this song only one time by her a capella singing while they were drunk as hell after a crazy night and the next day he arranges it on the rehearsal of his gig! Thanks to this film I have learned what an easy job I have! I don't know why me and all the other music producers in the world are spending months in studios to make records! After all it only takes like 12 hours to make such a perfect hit!

Dramatisation has to have limits. We live in an ignorant world, don't make it worse.

My IQ point has dropped

Where am I? What am I doing here? The last thing I remember is that I started to watch a random film on netflix thinking "How bad can it be?" and I woke up lying on the floor slobbering... The movie was battle... battle-something... Anyway, I'm going to enlist.

Prisoners (2013)
8/10
One of the best crime movies since Se7en
4 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Prisoners was the best movie of 2013 for me so far. It delivers the perfect atmosphere for a crime theme as it thrills us and provokes our thoughts all along. Scriptwriters have chosen to have two main characters: Jackman as the father and Gyllenhaal as the detective. Since the film's structure is dramatic instead of thematic (in which case the script should focus mainly on the relationship of two characters) this could seem a bit of problem for the audience to get into the movie. Although this is not the case thanks to the common goal of the characters: Finding the girls. And surprisingly having two main characters is one of the aspects which makes this film different from its similars. Yet one can't help but thinking "How would it have been with just one main character?".

Prisoner was near excellent until a certain point but unfortunately it falls short to greatness just before its ending. That certain point is being the moment that the father runs away from the hospital to Jones' residence. The very obvious inconsistencies were:

1) Keller's idiotic off-guard approach to Jones's house. 2) Aunt Jones' hurry to kill the girl instead of first facing the detective at the door and sending him out.

I would have given this film a 9 without these flaws. Still, the best film I've seen in a period.

Could you please do EXACTLY THE SAME story like 320th time?! Cause we didn't get it. We're idiots.
2 December 2013
Excuse me, what was that? I don't get it, can you please do another remake? I'm begging you. That's all because you've changed ONE OR TWO minor details whereas you should've done EXACTLY the same... Next time please don't change anything. We're idiots, remember? After all you don't need to be creative for making people watch this. I mean why bother, right? But for the next time, please edit Uncle Ben's death scene twice. I need to see it at least one more time over the first one. In fact three times would be much better, because I didn't get it after all the times that I've seen it on the comic books, the animations and the other series. Man, I don't get it! What was his aunt's name again? What was he bitten by? Was it a snake? Duh it should be, it's snake-man after all! What do you think I'm stupid? Huh! But you do another one of the same in any case! Rain or shine!

7 out of 10?! What is wrong with you people?
18 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
If you're about to watch this movie because of its 7 points, DON'T!

Here's the thing: Every movie has its universe. It could be a fantasy world as in Lords of the Ring, an alternative world as in super hero movies like Marvel Universe or a possible future world for sci-fi movies etc. If you're seeing such a movie you will be told the rules of that particular universe at the very beginning and you don't say "Hey! This is ridiculous, how does he walking on the walls? A spider bite doesn't do that?!" Because if you're watching a film like that you're gonna need to build your logic around its own rules. THAT'S OK.

But with this film... I don't know what to say! OK I knew that it was going to include some impossible action moves and I knew there will be a lot of lame talks of shitty characters but street race in the middle of London and not getting caught? OK, OK that can be as well, after all this movie is all about that. And then the bad guy and Vin Diesel face each other on the street and instead if trying to shoot each other they make cool talk? Like in the Heat, like De Niro and Pacino? Hahaha yeah, right! But you know what? That's OK as well! All the failing script writing and the boring plot is OK too! But street racing bad guys attacking a military base?? Arggghh gimme a break! That was it for me, I dropped it right there. Don't waste your time people, if you're not after some real crappy movie.

Fringe (2008–2013)

Entertaining on a superficial level but it fails to be profound if you look beyond
8 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched the 19th episode of the first season and I must say that I am disappointed at the moment. I'm a sound engineer, basically a musician with some recording and mixing skills for music production and I have never been the best of the school at science courses. So I've never had enough interest to be though. As for the fiction part of the science I've always been a fan! And Fringe has immediately attracted my attention from the first episode till now...

All those hypothesis based pseudo-scientific events I took for granted and all the little details that Walter has explained to the others as possible have gone to trash when I watched the scene in which Peter digitizes the audio signal recorded on the glass and then "ISOLATES" (!) THE DIALOGS FROM THE AMBIENT SOUND?! WITH A FADER AND A KNOB ON A TWO-TRACK DJ MIXER?!

I mean, COME ON!!! What kind of bull sh*t is that? OK let's say that we have accepted your glass recording to digital conversion idea. So it's fiction at the end of the day BUT Is that a goddamn pro tools mixing session written on the glass?! So I guess you have 4 channels of audio there and you can just take the fader down and boom! Ambient voices are gone! YEAH RIGHT!

So now I can't watch these series further because now I have to know that it's full of sh*t.

Don't get fooled by the high rating. Let me explain:
24 May 2012
IMDb ratings are useful but OF COURSE, if you know how to read them!

First of all, viewers who allow their time to sign up and rate the movies must be considered as above average viewer. Therefore ratings on IMDb have a certain value. But still, the population of IMDb includes a dispersion and you should understand how people tend to rate based on this fact.

1) Big productions with an original script (or a revolutionary technique as SC cam as in Avatar) and a topnotch cast would go up to IMDb's Top list and they would probably deserve it. Look at that list and in general you'll see the master pieces of the cinema history.

2) Big productions with a well-crafted script and a good cast would definitely have a rating above 7 from numerous users like 50000 people or something like that. According to your taste of genre, you won't be disappointed by these films most of the time.

3) An indie film with a low budget, a good or an original (or as it seems that way at the first look) script and an unknown cast would have a rating above 7 from a comparatively lower number of users like 20000 or so.

This 3rd case is the tricky one. If your time is valuable, you should take some time to read some reviews and make up your mind. Because in cases like these (like The Man From Earth here) when average educated people with an average intelligence see this kind of film THEY THINK that they're so intellectual and special and THEY FEEL like they're above the rest of the human kind and THEY ARE the first and the only ones who understand the false concept of things like religion and stuff, THEY GIVE a 9 or 10 to a poorly made movie with a poorly written script and awful acting!!!

Be aware!

For this movie my rating is 5. And that is for the nice effort on a low budget and the success on reaching so many people. I should give 1 to compensate the over-raters though!

Were they out of film reel? Such a bad ending...
21 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I checked this as a spoiler but actually it is not.

So those of you who hasn't see the movie yet, take this as a warning if you're like me and considering a movie with an unsatisfying ending, a bad movie.

I give 4 out of 10 to this movie, because i think, it is inexcusable to make such a terrible ending for any kind of dramatic art, no matter whether it's an ordinary easy-to-watch action film or a trial of a genuine piece of art.

I can't think of another explanation for such a messed-up ending but that there wasn't left any film for shooting the final scene.

It's just making this film a real waste of time. If they would have a better ending, i would have given 5,5 out of 10.
