The Transformers: Hoist Goes Hollywood (1985)
Season 2, Episode 38
10/10
It's like watching a parody while watching toy advertising
10 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is too good to be missed. I think even a non-transformer fan would love it for it's Hollywood satire and odd premonitions of the Transformer movie series of this decade. The Autobots go Hollywood, specifically Sunstreaker, Trucks (um, I mean Tracks), Powerglide, and Warpath. Moist (I mean Hoist) is the first but it's more in a technical adviser type of role. Hollywood actors and directors get lampooned and praised for their character traits in this episode. The director is at least shown to have some innovation and creativity in his bloodstream. The actor's are shown to be inept and self-entitled. The featured decepticons are Megatron, Starscream, Thrust, Soundwave, Ramjet, Astrotrain, Dirge in plane mode only, and Rumble.

The Transformers: The Rebirth: Part 3 (1987)
Season 4, Episode 3

New Transformers that were very underused
5 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The positives: Great action and story. Good for kids and families to watch. Optimus and Galvatron are like the 'with' and 'and' of robots, not taking up too much time for new transformers. Snapdragon is a bada$$ who carries three autobots with it in their first conflict on Nebulon, and tries to eat Arcee and Daniel. Apeface and Mindwipe are the Dr. McCoy and Spock of evil Decepticons. Cyclonus (the targetmasters inventor), Scourge, Brainstorm (co-headmaster founder with Spike), Hardhead, Highbrow, Kup, Blurr, and Hot Rod are well-developed characters. Some heads and guns, Spike, Daniel, Gort, Zarak, Nightstick, and Krunk develop their characters well through their actions.

The negatives: If Sixshot is supposed to be so strong and tough, why come after he proclaims the Aerialbots are up and down do they continue to fight for the next two episodes. It comes off as a cheap way to sell a toy. There really wasn't a use for Optimus in this, Magnus could have occupied his role, Springer Magnus's, and Hot Rod as Rodimus.

In the middle: Weirdwolf, Chromedome, Skullcruncher, Misfire, Slugslinger, Sureshot, Crosshairs, Pointblank, and Snapdragon don't say anything or nearly anything. Barely anything is said by a lot of Autobot and Decepticon heads and guns. It's the problem with adding about 50 new characters in one season to sell a toyline. Maybe it should have been the headmasters in 87-88 and the targetmasters in 88-89.

Overall: It feels like such a letdown not to see more episodes following with this miniseries but it is hugely exciting and action-packed without being too-violent, dark, lowbrow, and cynical like the movie or today's cartoons.

Please email me if you have comments or questions.

WWE Hall of Fame 2007 (2007 TV Special)
6/10
TV version
17 April 2008
There are no spoilers in my review because it was known before hand who was being inducted and by whom. On TV, Wade Boggs inducted Curt "Mr. Perfect" Henning, William Shatner inducted Jerry "The King" Lawler, and Cody Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes inducted Dusty Rhodes. Wade Boggs gave an inspirational speech in honor of the late Curt Henning. Shatner made a very kind speech about Lawler, but Lawler himself was disinterested in the ceremony. Rumors say he felt the HOF meant there wasn't anything else for one to do in the business. The Dusty Rhodes speech was too long and over-the-top, and seemed like it was written by the McMahon's to showcase their power and egos. It makes you slightly realize why WCW didn't beat WWE(WWF) in the long run. Overall it was mildly a good event but by the time you're done watching this you're wishing it would end. Unfortunately there were also some hecklers who could use some manners taught to them.

I have Seen it and Laughed at it
19 December 2006
This comment is just to say that this show is great social commentary, satire, and humor. Everything Joel McHale says is what deep down we all are thinking. For instance, an American Idol contestant with an Eastern European accent is sinking "I'm proud to be an American" very badly and Joel says "we should close the boarders." It may be sarcasm but it's true. However, he can be accused of cheating at humor by showing clips that would garner laughs even if he made no comments. The "Laguna Beach," David Hasselhoff, and Whitney Houston clips are meant for laughs by the performers.

Some segments begin with a montage of subject matter such as what children, old people, chat shows, E!, or a man watches. It adds to the hilarity and absurdity of the era we live in. I'd give it an 8 out of ten.

Some Spoilers Ahead
12 October 2003
Warning: Spoilers
It's hard to really picture who thought up this movie. What adult decides to make a movie that kills off a bunch of robots? I mean, since when can robots die? However, in case somebody criticizes the creation of the matrix they should remember or be reminded that there was a being called Vector Sigma that created all the Transformers. It was a big sphere that spoke. Unicron is one of the best creations in the series, a meglomaniac transformer planet. I like all the transformers that were created in this, except I don't know why they didn't stretch the first version of the show out 3-4 years before making a movie. I guess it was all about the toy revenue. And yet they come out with these new ones on their own for one year only before they made the headmasters and targetmasters that they hardly used on TV. Transformers are the neatest toys ever and they have always brought a smile to my face. They remind me of the happiest moments in my life. As for this movie, rent it but I can't promise that you'll want to keep it, even for kids. It will seem very absurd to alot of people that robots could die.

Bad Characterization, Funny Dialogue
11 October 2003
If you've seen "Batman & Robin" you've got to admit that it's so absurd that it makes you laugh, laugh, and laugh again. The writing and one-liners are hilarious and nonstop. Gov. Arnold, Chris O'Donnell, Uma, Alicia, and George deliver these to perfection.

It is poorly made when it comes to the plot. For instance, Elle McPherson was worthless in this movie. Buy the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues for her looking sexy, which are awesome. Uma captured my heart in this movie like no woman can. She's so beautiful and seductive you get the feeling that a sequel could be made with a romantic touch to it that only Poison Ivy and not Catwoman could accomplish. All the other actors are left providing nearly no depth to their characters. Joel Schumacher blew it in that department. The 'depth' of Bruce Wayne in this movie was nothing more than more of the same that was in the third movie and in that movie it only served to reveal his identity to someone. In this one it serves no purpose. Arnold provides some depth of characterization that makes enjoy his character. Chris O'Donnell and Alicia Silverstone just smile through their parts.

Overall I'd tell anyone to take a chance and rent it if they haven't seen it already. But I wouldn't promise anyone a good complete movie. That's probably why I haven't bought it yet.

The X Files (1998)
All Style, No Substance
10 October 2003
What did we learn of the alien plot as we saw this movie...NOTHING! This movie had no depth to it at all. Two old actors appear in it for no reason whatsoever. Alvin Kurtzweil and Conrad Strughold? So WHAT!Why did these two characters show up for one movie? They never even came back to the series. Something happens to the well-manicured man. Big deal! Another so WHAT! This movie would have been so much better had it had a character who was alien who could have been new to the series. He or she could have provided more insight into the alien conspiracy.

Nothing about David Duchovny's and Gillian Anderson's acting shows any signs of brilliance. The show was great and the acting was good until they did this movie. Then it was 3 silly years of about 6 good episodes but it was too late for Robert Patrick to revise the series. This movie killed the series.

Good Little Star Trek Film
10 October 2003
I like Star Trek III because it takes a simple task of returning Spock, a very popular character, into life and turning it into a fun adventure for everyone. The scenes on Vulcan are too complex for anyone to understand but they were meant to do just that. William Shatner and Deforest Kelly deliver some good acting performances in their most popular roles. Leonard Nemoy surprised many people by showing he could direct a movie. Christopher Llyod showed that he can play an evil Klingon better than anyone. In all this is a fun adventure even non star trek fans can enjoy.

Blackjack (1998 TV Movie)
Not Spectacular, BUT!
8 October 2003
John Woo's "Blackjack" does have a good theme within it that he uses to showcase the action and plot of this film. That theme is that people must learn to fight the demon's inside them. This theme is shown through the bad guy and the good guy, who are each fighting demon's within himself. One chooses to let it run his life while the other fight's it as he tries to protect people. On first viewing you might not see that this is a good, if not spectacular John Woo movie, but it is worth a few viewings.

Plus, the action is pretty good as well. Dolph Lundgren is one of those actors who does his best when he let's his body movements do the acting while keeping his voice somewhat silent. He does some of his best work in this film.

Freddy Kruger Takes it To The Next Level
3 October 2003
Let's all face it, without director Wes Craven and Freddy Kruger(Robert Englund) this movie would have been nothing more than an average B-Movie horror film. The sub par acting and script could make anyone laugh from beginning to end. The mother doesn't exist in the universe of reality. I found her to be 'the real' target of Freddy's terror and not Nancy as she is the one being terrorized and kept alive by Kruger for revenge. Wes Craven's directing of this movie took the cliched slasher genre to a whole new level. He mixes foreshadowment and tone to make the viewer get on the edge of their seat. Robert Englund makes Freddy creepy behind the dark by staying still so that it makes him not look scared of his prey. You will notice this happens many times in the movie. Overall, Craven and Englund combined to make a great horror movie that could have just been like any other without them.

Funny 80s Movie
3 October 2003
This is a movie with good acting by Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, and John Ashton, fueled by their great chemistry together. The villains are some of the most despicable in all of movie cinema. The directing is right on target in delivering a stylish film straight out of the 80s. The movie will rank right up there as one of the best action-comedies of all time. Raise your glass's to Beverly Hills Cop!

One of MY Favorites!
3 October 2003
Of all the James Bond movies Moonraker is one of my favorites. I am a huge Roger Moore Bond fan but I especially looooooovvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeee Lois Chiles as Dr. Holly Goodhead. She is the most beautiful and sexy of all the Bond girls, in my opinion. Jaws has a good showing in this movie as well and the opening sequence is one of the best in Bond history. Sir Hugo Drax is as evil as a Bond villain gets and the terrific pacing of this movie makes it one of the most enjoyable of the Bond adventures. Maybe some other people don't like it but I do.

King of the Ring (2002 TV Special)
Terrible, and that The Truth!
1 October 2003
It's a terrible main event with Undertaker/HHH stuffing their match with arm holds that women in a mud wrestling school could do. Mediocre matches all around with Angle/Hogan, Test/Lesnar, Guerrero/Flair, and RVD/Lesnar. Molly/Trish is overrated and below average in terms of quality and Hurricane/Noble has no high spots. Guerrero/Flair was put together at the last minute with Flair taking Stone Cold Steve Austin's place due to his problems with Vince McMahon behind the scenes. But it has nothing of great value from either men. I'm sorry but this is an awful PPV led by the main event hogging Undertaker/HHH match. Even The Rock couldn't do that much to make the match interesting in commentary. In case you've heard about the Booker/Goldust/Rock scene, don't buy this for it. Buy The Rock's "Just Bring It" collector's DVD for it and other great moments in The Rock's career. But to summarize, this is an iceberg of a PPV that showed that the old guys were keeping the young guys down and a PPV split should have happened a long time ago. I apologize to Undertaker and HHH fans, these two guys can still do something good for the business just never have them work together again.

For Gary Sinise Fans
1 October 2003
Brian DePalma's "Mission to Mars" works on many levels because Gary Sinise is able to convey so much intensity that you don't know if it will have a happy ending or not. Had this film starred Harrison Ford it may have made $150 million at the box office but it would not have been as high quality of a film. Ford would have made us believe that the film could only have a happy ending and that would not have given the audience a true thrill ride. Sinise does that for us by working with DePalma's directing talents and making each scene the more intriging. Connie Neilsen, Don Cheadle, Jerry O'Connell, and Tim Robbins all support Sinise in this one in solid performances. I therefore recommend this movie to all movie fans.

Air Force One (1997)
Well Acted and Directed, Boring Average Plot
1 October 2003
Air Force One is a well directing action film by Wolfgang Peterson and a well acted actioner starring Harrison Ford, Wendy Crewson and Gary Oldman. There's always a brave female character lead, in these films that star male action heroes, who stands up to the villain these days. However the action of the film is routine and doesn't try at all to be original. There's so many deaths in the end of the film that anyone would start laughing at their repetition. It's worse for these co-stars than in a Friday The 13th film. In the movie theater it's great to watch but on the small screen of the TV, it's too much. On the plus side, Wendy Crewson comes off looking like she was made for made=for-TV movies. For her age she's pretty and she demands respect in her role. Glen Close plays the vice-president, who's more of a joke than an actual character. I doubt I'd vote for the Ford-Close ticket soon.

Ransom (1996)
Humorless Thriller
1 October 2003
There is no humor to be found in "Ransom" as it is the story of a boy's kidnapping and his parents attempts to bring him back safely. Mel Gibson delivers a great performance as a father on the verge of breaking down from the kidnapping ordeal. Rene Russo provides a role she rarely plays of a serious character, unlike her showcase roles in "Lethal Weapon 3 & 4", "Major League", and "The Thomas Crown Affair." She is very believable in her role as the boy's mother. Gary Sinise plays the deranged police officer who is so close to reality it's scary. You don't know what a cop thinks when you walk by them on the street because they have steel attitudes and looks. Ron Howard gives one of his best directing efforts yet making the movie intense to the end. By delivering no humor he keeps the subject matter serious and chilling to the very last reel.

Actually I-XV!
30 September 2003
This video or DVD depending on your choice, showcases the best of 15 wrestlemania's. It gives some promos and match highlights from the first 15 Wrestlemania's. Of course it could have been longer, say about 3 hours, but it isn't. Overall, it's really not worth it and I wouldn't advise anyone to get it who's a fan of wrestling.

WrestleMania XV (1999 TV Special)
Great Matches
30 September 2003
Warning: Spoilers
For anyone who want's to see The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin I or Kane vs HHH I, see this Wrestlemania. The crowd reaction is awe inspiring and the DVD presents funny and interesting audio commentary by the Rock and Austin. Mankind(Mick Foley) also has such a large role in this Wrestlemania that all of his fans should enjoy it.

SPOILER: HBK makes a surprise appearance to taunt Mr. McMahon before the main event. END SPOILER

The DVD also has character biographies and background histories on many of the wrestlers. I didn't buy the setup for the Sable-Tori match so that's one negative to it. The setup for Rock-Austin may be the greatest in wrestlemania history. Overall, everyone who's a wrestling fan should see it and I promise they will enjoy it.

This Was A Truly Terrible Show
29 September 2003
I flipped it on once and Delta Burke was giving a speech about 'wive' beating to a bunch of fat-cat male senators. It then proceeds to have violin music or whatever to video of women being beaten that had me confused as to whether it was funny or just plain bad amateur acting. The women's heads were being swung violently and they were bleeding all over the place. It was a truly awful show.

Behind the Scenes of A Playboy Fashion Show SPOILER
28 September 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Playboy takes you behind the scenes of a fashion show brought together by Betsey Johnson.

SPOILERS, for those who think this movie could have spoilers.

The women get very drunk to calm themselves down. Brooke Berry is noticeably very worried when she takes off her clothes at first. But once she and the other ladies get drunk, they get wild. Suzanne Stokes flashes the audience and one other girl I think forgot her panties. They have a D.J. behind the scenes. You see that there is no competition between the girls for attention and that they are all close friends. Especially the lovely Angel Boris and Nicole Lenz, and bosomed Victoria Silvendt and Carrie Stevens. Also, Donald Trump pays a visit behind the scenes to hug some of the playmates. His current wife Melania Trump also is in view.

End SPOILERS

Unlike other playboy videos, this features no fantasy style clips. Overall, buy it for Angel Boris and all of the other lovelies that will show you what goes on behind the scenes of a fashion show. Make no mistake if you are planning on becoming a model, watch this video, if your daughter is or you or her or son are going to become a designer, watch this video!

This is unlike anyfilm you've ever seen

I liked this movie so much I saw it TWICE in the movie theater. The filmmaking is unique in narrative, the acting reaches the same level as the directing, and the use of flashbacks is magnificent. The tone makes for a journey into the human mind of each Tenenbaum. Gene Hackman leads a cast, showing one of the best performances of his noteworthy career. Luke Wilson gives his best performance to date as the sad son. Gweneth Paltrow, Danny Glover, and Ben Stiller all give fantastic supporting roles. This movie makes me want to do more with my life. I will leave it up to the viewers, each and everyone of you, yes YOU, to find the meaning that this film gives to your world. The DVD is worth it and I highly recommend it!

I Love It!
28 September 2003
These women are beautiful. Brooke Richards, Jennifer Rovero, Suzanne Stokes, Rebecca Scott, and Brooke Berry are my favorites. Jodi Ann Patterson justs strikes me as a bit too oily looking for my tastes. The Bertola twins have the most annoying music in their video and the pretty curly haired woman in their's will draw your attention away. Brande Roderick is fine. Overall this might be one of the best crops of ladies playboy has ever produced. If I had to pick one for playmate of the year it would be Jennifer Rovero. Her video's express her desire to enjoy life more than any others.

Duke Nukem 3D (1996 Video Game)
My Favorite Game
28 September 2003
Duke Nukem 3D is the most action packed video game ever. There are plenty of villains, some can even kill each other, saving the player weapons and ammo. I won't tell you which ones but they are awesome to watch. There are so many weapons and accessories that you won't find a way to be bored with this game unless someone takes it away from you. I recommend this to all video game players who haven't played it before. Go for it!
