Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Hard pass
Easily the worst of the five. Struggling to pay attention.
But I'm weird. The first one is alright, I guess, and I rented Evil Dead 2 every weekend for years; Army of Darkness is cool if it's viewed as its own thing, and the eponymous 2013 re-do is tip-tip Magoo. This flick is kind of dark, visually, you go dumb to the blood after the first thousand gallons, and I had no feeling at all for any of the characters; this flick puts too much emphasis on the tragedy of this family coming apart- and I couldn't care less. The Bride of Re-Animator body-pile idea is so stupid and head-scratching that I was done with the movie right there. Someone made an Evil Dead movie, and they didn't have any idea what they were doing. This wasn't scary- it was ANNOYING.
Joker (2019)
WOW is such a lonely word...
Joker: I actually had my hopes up...and this film exceeded my expectations.
Film as an art form is alive and well.
Helltown (2017)
Yeesh...
This flick was okay, for what it was. But a fictional re-enactment that tries to obfuscate the truth of what it is just kind of insults everyone involved.
My wife actually thought this was real, when it was blatant that it was fiction.
We fought over this issue.
