North (1994)
Lighthearted family movie
I'm a little shocked this only received 4.1 stars out of 10! Last night I watched "North" for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Elijah Wood is irresistible as little North, a young boy who decides to venture out and find new parents after his two bickering ones (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and Jason Alexander) pay no attention to him. Bruce Willis is great as a man who reappears and offers valuable advice everywhere North goes, and the rest of the movie is dotted with familiar faces, too. While this film is by no means an Oscar winner, it's lighthearted and certainly enjoyable for a family to watch (no major cursing, no nudity, etc). Elijah Wood's performance alone is worth it...yes, he is a big name presently, but bearing in mind this was made in 1994, his acting was quite phenomenal for such a young boy! So if you're looking for a cute movie, suitable for children and something other than Disney or animation, give "North" a whirl!
Dreamcatcher (2003)
Hmm, interesting
*Possible spoiler about one particular scene*
I wasn't that pleased with the film, but I read the book first. And, just to clear up any confusion, I'd highly recommend reading the novel first, THEN renting the movie. Because the film does leave out information that the book produces, and anyone that hasn't read the book can get very easily confused. For example, there seems to be some confusion about Beav and his toothpicks...in the novel, that is easily explained and makes more sense in the bathroom scene. Films usually generally leave out more information if one is being made about a novel.
I'd give the film 5/10, but the book 8/10.
It's Pat: The Movie (1994)
Give it a chance
After reading most of the comments, I felt compelled to side with "Pat" and write a decent recommendation for the movie.
It's not roll-on-the-floor-with-laughter funny, but I was highly (and I do mean highly) amused with Pat and the way (s)he acts. It's okay to laugh at the movie; the ones that take it too seriously and are offended at the way Pat is portrayed (is Pat male or female??) are those overly sensitive ones that will give the movie a bad review. Don't listen! If you can watch Pat with an open mind and view it as a film, nothing more, I think you will see it's not as half bad as most users are making it out to be.
It's certainly not one of the best films ever made, but come on, it's a great one to watch when you're in need of a goofball flick with your friends.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
excellent, excellent, excellent!
I just finished watching AI, and I must say, it's better then I thought it ever would be. I'm still wiping tears from my eyes. I can't believe how many people disliked this movie! The previews alone showed it would be a little sappy, so you knew what to expect when you watched it. If you like tearjerkers, this movie is for you. The ending really isn't that bad, despite what some are saying; in fact, I'm sure you'll be surprised and will like it. And I don't see what could have been cut out to make it shorter...the length was fine as it was. I'd give it a 10 out of 10, and more...this one is definitely worth buying.
