Scales: Mermaids Are Real (2017)
Simply a beautiful tale
I came across Scales: Mermaids Are Real by chance on Starz. My 6 year old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson were mesmerized. They had to go home but I finished watching it. I loved it. I really like how she saved everyone in the end. The recording will get a lot of play in my house.
The Best Man Holiday (2013)
Haven't Laughed & Cried So Much In Years
I know that I am late to party. I missed the movie in the theater. I just watched it on HBO. OMG Terrance Howard was hilarious. Morris Chestnut was just yummy. The ladies and the rest of the cast were superb as well. I loved the holiday music. I had to stop the movie to go blow my nose because I was crying so much. By now, you probably know what I'm talking about.
It's not often that a sequel equals or tops the first movie. Best Man Holiday is in a category all by itself. I am so proud of everyone in the movie. Individually, they've all done well for themselves. I can't wait for the next installment.
Best Man Holiday is not your stereotypical black movie. It just happens to have a cast that is predominately black. Grab your popcorn and a box of tissues and get ready for a dynamic movie experience.
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Best Transformer Movie Yet! The Cast & Robots Were Spectacular
The reboot was spectacular. The new cast was first class. For all the people bashing the movie, I don't know what you were expecting. Your extremely LONG post explaining what you disliked Transformers is a franchise for die hard fans. They expect to see cool cars, fantastic transformations and hard core fights. I only wished the Dinobots would have shown up sooner and there were more Autobots.
Yes, it was a long movie but I enjoyed every second. Ignore the haters and go see for yourself how much fun the reboot is. They destroyed a lot real estate and cars. I loved the music. "Battle Cry" was the perfect finishing touch to a summer blockbuster. I'm going to download the song.
Them! (1954)
Them! is the smartest science fiction ever
"Them!" provides action. Throws in a murder mystery. Blends the action and mystery with big bugs that have creepy sounds and adds educational stuff you'd learn in a biology class or on National Geographic. How many of us think about the types of ants that makes up a colony and what their purpose is?
I loved this movie as a child and still love it today. I watch it whenever it's on. TCM has it on right now. It's a great Halloween treat. I feel like a kid again. It's the perfect movie to watch with your children to introduce them to a true science fiction movie that isn't fluff or full of gore.
The First Wives Club (1996)
Sisters Helping Each Other Overcome
I just finished watching The First Wives Club on HBO for the hundredth time. I absolutely love the movie. I love the team work.
It's so nice to have a movie where the women are not jealous of each other and trying to bring each other down. The soundtrack is fantastic as well.
As a child of divorce who watched her father move on to another woman and leave his family to flounder while he prospered, I totally understand the need of the women to make their husbands understand the damage they've done.
The First Wives Club is a feel good movie that entertains and motivates you to rise above your problems to do good for others.
Colombiana (2011)
I Loved It!
I wasn't really interested in going to see Columbiana. My daughter wanted to see it before she went off to college. I am so glad she made me take her.
Young Catelaya blew me away! Her parents taught her well. She played it cool. That little girl is going to be a big star someday.
I skeptical about how a woman that thin could kick butt. Zoe was simply fantastic. She needed to be thin so she could fit through all of those tight spaces. Brute strength wasn't needed. She had to be smart to plan her entry and escape and know how to defend herself.
The action was phenomenal from beginning to end. It's worth seeing again.
Innocent Victims (1996)
Just Saw News Story on 20/20 in Which the Crime Was Finally Solved
Innocent victims was a sad story. Although the acting was great, the real life story is more interesting than the movie. They take so many liberties with telling the story that it doesn't seem real. It broke my heart when they said that the case was unsolved.
They need to do another movie to revisit the crime now that it has officially been solved. Can you believe that after being convicted the first time and then found not guilty in a second trial that the cops had it right all along? Tim was guilty!
Twenty-five years after the crime a cold case detective found the swab from the mother's rape kit and had it tested. It was Tim's semen. The army court-martialed him and found him guilty of murder in 2010. He is back on death row.
The Help (2011)
Worth Every Penny & More!
I laughed so hard that I had tears falling down my face. The Help will make you laugh, feel uncomfortable, elicit sadness, and make you want to jump through the screen to slap some women.
I never thought about the maids not being able to use the bathrooms in the homes they worked in. They could take care of their children and cook their meals but were deemed to carry germs.
Grab your girlfriends and go see The Help. Make it a full night by going out to eat after and discuss the move. All of the actresses were phenomenal!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
I'm Going Back Tomorrow to Watch Rise of the Planet of Apes Again!
From the moment I saw the previews on the big screen, I knew Rise of the Planet of the Apes was going to be awesome. It didn't let me down. Caesar took my heart right from the start.
It was thrilling when he took down the mean next door neighbor. You felt scared for him but you knew he deserved it. I loved the scene where he was in the animal sanctuary and learned that the orangutan could sign like him. Everyone laughed when he showed the chimp who tried beating him up who the real boss was.
His early years spent with humans really shaped his behavior later on when he decided that it was time to break free of them. The fact that he didn't want his fellow simians to outright kill humans is proof.
As usual, humans showed their stupidity in the way they treated the animals and by not following protocol with their new miracle drug. I cheered as they outsmarted the officials. The helicopter scene was simply fantastic.
The ending shown after the credits has me hoping that there will be a second movie. I wished the movie was longer and delved deeper into the human effects of the drug. I loved the movie so much that I'm going back to see it again tomorrow with my nephew who foolishly decided to sleep in instead of going to the movies with me :-).
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is intelligent, entertaining, heart warming, thrilling and so much more. You will be cheering for them to take down the cops and the people in the lab. I'm giving it a 9 out 10 only because it wasn't long enough. I want more!
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
Every Year I Watch Thinking He's Finally Going to See the Great Pumpkin
I was born in 1966. Since I can remember, I've been a Peanuts fan. It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown was a must watch show for me every Halloween since about the age of 4. Eating a TV dinner and watching it in the den was the highlight of Halloween. It got me primed to go trick or treating.
As an adult with children in their 20's, I still stop what I'm doing to watch Linus sit in the pumpkin patch with Sally. I know that its silly but at the end of the show, I always feel let down just like Linus. My kids shake their heads when I start going off that by now he should know better.
I will be an old woman and still watching It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. It reminds of a simpler time when kids could off in groups to trick or treat. You could get popcorn balls and candy apples along with other goodies. If Halloween fell on a school day, teachers kept you busy working a cool project in hopes of keeping you calm.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
I had the time of my life
For all of you who gave Transformers 3 a low rating, you should have just stayed home. You really don't like the franchise much less the animated series. You are just bogging down the board with your complaints.
The movie was out of this world. I was entertained from the first second to the last. It had a great conspiracy theory, stupendous robots, mind boggling action scenes, and a cast of characters who blended quite well - Dutch is my favorite new character.
It was not warm and fuzzy like the first movie. There were scenes that had me holding my breath. I couldn't figure out how the Autobots were going to save the day after the humans turned their backs on them. The drama was intense.
Tyrese's statement that the bad guys always have the best sh-- was just hilarious. If you are a true fan of the Transformers franchise and were fortunate to see the classic animated series, you will have the time of your life seeing them battling on the big screen.
It is so much better than the second one. My only complaint was how could Carly stay so clean during the action scenes when Shia was battered and bruised. The chick went through a lot during the last hour of the movie wearing heels!
Swamp Shark (2011)
I love a Cajun horror movie!
A Syfy movie is typically hit or miss. They finally have an interesting script. I'm most likely biased because I'm from Louisiana.
The food, music, interaction between the cast and a killer shark in the swamp have kept me glued to the screen.
Swamp Shark is character driven instead of creature driven. The previous summer premiere movies like Moby Dick bored the heck out of me.
It is really nice to watch a movie about the Cajun country in which the characters accent is not a miss. Not everyone from Louisiana has a thick Cajun accent.
My only beef is that the ending could have been better.
Super 8 (2011)
The kids are best part of the movie
I know what a blockbuster is. Super 8 is not. It's a good family film minus the dirty language used by one of the kids. I loved the sound track and seeing the phones from the 70's, cassette player and Walkman. The scene from the credits was great.
I can't say enough about how great the kids were in the movie. Big things are in store for them.
I don't understand why it's called Super 8 and the missing dogs. It's a movie that you can wait to see on DVD. I only went to see the movie because Steven Spielberg was associated with the project.
I would honestly watch it again when it comes out on DVD but I wouldn't spend money to see it another time on the big screen. It's a great Saturday afternoon movie when you have nothing to do.
For the Love of a Dog (2007)
Heart warming family story
For the Love of a Dog is heart warming. It is so great to have teenagers who aren't doing hateful things to each other. They are all believable young actors with promising futures.
The interaction between the family, friends and neighbors is so touching. I absolutely love it when a community comes together to help each other. Even the blonde rich girl who acts snooty has redeemable qualities.
As usual, Sherman Hensely steals the spotlight in all the scenes he appears in. Grouchy but lovable is how I would classify him.
The youngest daughter and Sempher are just too cute for words!
Bachelor Party (1984)
1984 was a very good year
My boyfriend took me to see Bachelor Party during my senior year in high school. It was the most fun I had in a long time.
I was scanning Encore an hour ago and came across Bachelor Party. I immediately turned to it. I was curious to find out what it was rated on IMDb since it is one of my all time favorite movies. How can it be just 5.8?
Bachelor Party has everything you need in a crazy 80's movies. The hilarious scene with the female strippers who show up at the Bachelorette Party. The bathroom scene where one of the friends of the groom tells him that he's met his soul mate only to find out the hooker who serviced him is a man so he jumps into the shower to scrub his privates. How about the scene with the hot dog bun at the male stripper club?
Don't even get me started on the donkey? Bachelor Party is a movie that satisfies every time. It never gets old.
Bride Wars (2009)
Fantastic chick flick
This is my first time posting. I just watched Bride Wars on HBO. I loved it. Sometimes people take movies too seriously. It was not meant to be a Oscar worthy movie. It was just supposed to entertain you for 90 minutes.
Yes, females can be catty. But the movie showed how two best friends can work out their differences. Every little girl dreams that her wedding day is going to be perfect. Some women do go a little crazy when it comes to their wedding day. Anne and Kate played their roles to the hilt.
The dresses were beautiful. It was great to see Candice Bergmon in a movie again.
