Uncharted (2022)
A weird mix of nothing at all from Uncharted..
As a true fan of the Uncharted series since the first game, Drake's fortune, came out in 2007, I always hoped they would make a movie adaptation. I mean, the games are practically already movies as they stand, it would be the simplest thing ever to just use the material there.. the dialogue, the scenes, the music, everything.
But no.. instead they sort of copy a few bits and pieces from the third and fourth game, mash up the time frame and then pick Holland to play Nathan Drake!?
I mean in the first game Nathan is supposed to be in his mid thirties.. he's a grown man, and he LOOKS LIKE he's a grown man as well, something, I'm sorry to say, Tom Holland never will. I swear to God, he must still be 15!
They also sort of copied the soundtrack from the game, but only in rare moments so you barley even realise they're playing it. But then, at the very end they play the main soundtrack in all its beauty. Why wouldn't they play it during the movie?
And then they choose to use Chloé instead of Elena, and her part is just so awkward and weak in this movie.. it's hard for me to explain well, but the characters are so hollow and it's so painful to watch.
And Sullivan.. he doesn't even say his favourite swearword ONCE ! I have nothing bad to say about Wahlberg though, for the record he would have been a better Nathan Drake than he was as Victor Sullivan.
If you want to watch this movie, please don't think of it as part of the Uncharted series, but something separate.
Mile 22 (2018)
Great action, decent characters! You give this a 2 then maybe consider some time off netflix and relearn to give credit where it's due..
To be honest I'm starting to feel like imdb, which used to be a kind of a quality stamp thingy, is no longer doing what it should. I use it a lot when browsing on netflix. I've been watching a lot of Whalberg films lately and saw the title "Mile 22" while browsing and decided to watch it without checking with imdb for rating. And by God am I glad I did.. I would have never watched it if I knew imdb rated it 6.1.
This film does what it's supposed to. It's decent action and some of the action scenes are extremely well made!
A lot of people are whining about shaky cam, I actually think it's a quite cool effect, in the heat of battle. It makes the scene more realistic. Or are we supposed to be able to follow every single move perfectly.. matrix-style?
The characters are great, there is no deep dive into their lives just flash backs and some history. Many people here gave the film criticism for this. I mean the characters are grown people who have decided to let go of happy lives with their families to do America's dirty business. We don't need any teary-eyed backgrounds and we don't get any. They're hyper practical and efficient agents doing their job. I'm so grateful that there are no long sob-stories or whalberg giving encouraging speeches to Alice, she chose her life and he chose his, and so many in the team die, and they were all prepared for that.
Oh and btw, I really enjoyed whalberg in this film! Funny and terrifying at the same time!
It's a 7 for me! These kinds of films are not reching for oscars, they're stand alone action films with understandable and quite easy to follow plots. And we should rate them as such.
These kinds of films are not trying to be something they're not, so let's not expect that from them..
