War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
Ceaser is one of the best animals in movie history
It's more 9.8/10 but I'll round up to 10. I'll start off with some of my complaints, they're more kinda nitpicks. I don't like how close they had Ceasers cage to the rest of the apes. Like u know he's the leader, and a pretty smart ape who u know can communicate really well so why have him close to the rest. Another is not a nitpick, but ceaser at the beginning (before his sons death ) said something where they couldn't trust humans , when the previous 2 movies u had a human raising him and humans saving him and his wife . IMO that shoulda made him realize not all humans are bad or untrustworthy. But that's it for any complaints or nitpicks I have
The positives, the acting cgi and writing. The action scenes are really well executed. And I really love kinda like the parallel between Koba and ceaser. How they couldn't get past their hate, ceaser couldn't stop Koba's hate but he eventually stopped his own hate , and in a way gave mercy to the colonel.
I would have loved for them to make like a sequel show in animation form set a couple years after ceasers death and have it set around Cornelius and how he's dealt with the loss of his family , and how the next leader lives up to the great Ceaser.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
If u give it a shot , with an open mind it's pretty good . But if you come in expecting the original ur not gunna like it much
Since I can't give halves , I was gunna give it an 8.6/10 but I rounded up to 9.
Acting was pretty good , some wooden scenes especially with Aang and Katara. But they're expected since their newer actors Gordon literally has like only one scene before this show lol. But he does portray his innocence well and his acting is good for someone in his technically first role. Dallas (Zuko ) and Ian (Sokka ) were the real standouts
The production, in terms of cgi , sets and bending was overall really good. When Aang goes into the avatar state it generally does look kinda scary in a way. The fight scenes were prob my fav part , they do a great job at handling them , and I really that they did a fight scene that didn't really feature much bending between 2 powerful benders
There is actually a lot of changes , some I might not like but i 100% get or just others I might have to fully understand on a rewatch
But even tho it's def more serious then the original there's still some of that innocence of the original's
I'll say this tho , just give it a shot and come in with an open mind . If u come in expecting a straight 1 of 1, or for it to be as good as the original , then ur not gunna like it. I've seen some reviews where it's just getting compared to the original, which wouldn't really be that fair since the original is perfection to many ppl and others where u can tell ppl are just upset that it's not a 1 of 1. And remember it's an adaptation, not a remake.
Moon Knight (2022)
Oscar Isaac's is great as moon knight
Moon Knight is one of the better mcu shows. Oscar Isaac's is great , prob the best part . It also doesn't feel like most other marvel shows or movies which I kinda like. I did like his suit and that each persona had their own suit, idk if that's in comics but that's a nice detail.
I loved what they did with his origin story , it's one of the darker mcu moments. That episode dealt with death , child abuse and the huge twist that Steven isn't the original. Marc is , no one saw that coming and it does make sense. I also did really like their back and forths
What I didn't like was the finale did rushed. And that's been a problem with a lot of mcu shows , either the finale is too short at like 30 minutes or there should be more episodes. Also like wasted potential, the cut out scenes were cool but with no real pay off to it (since there might not be a season 2) they just kinda felt pointless and kinda annoying after the first couple times they did it . Also it shoulda been a much more mature show in terms of tone . Like a dark tv14 or tv ma rating woulda been better and more time cause we coulda seen those blacked out fights and we could seen him kill all those men , right before he tries to kill himself and meets Khonshu.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Venom 2: let there be MID
Venom 2, is a good popcorn flick movie like the first one . Writing may not be the best but I still found it entertaining. I'll start off with the positives.
Tom Hardy is still a great Eddie Brock here , his back and forths with venom are easily the best parts of the movie . I did like the fight scene at the end and the graphics still are pretty good
The best scene is easily the post credit scene , it set up so many opportunities with mcu's spiderman
Now the negatives, I did not care for carnage or shrieks (Cletus Cassidy girlfriend) , they had the perfect choice for Cletus in Woody Harrelson , just the writing made his performance fell flat .
The whole sub plot of venom and Eddie basically breaking up , it led to nothing . It woulda been better if venom went to the Cletus himself and used him as a host , where Cletus uses venom to do some criminal stuff . Eddie Brock sees this and tries to convince venom to come back , he doesn't want to then but eventually he sees what he's doing is wrong tried to leave but accidentally creates carnage , setting up either the final battle or the 3rd movie.
The Iron Claw (2023)
This movie broke me, I love it
It's more of 9.5/10 but either way the iron claw was a fantastic film. It's a film abt brotherly love and overall family , and ik their a wrestling family but the wrestling side of it was bigger then I thought it was gunna be (which im glad cause those sequences was really good )
I'll start off with negatives first , Mikes suicide . He stated that David's death , along with the pressure of ppl wanting him to be David and ofc his injury which led to his toxic shock syndrome led to his suicide. I wish they did a better job at exploring the pressure he felt of tryna live up to that expectations, and that just show him grieving to show how much he really misses David . If that was better executed, his death woulda hit harder to me .
Another is they shoulda aged the characters physically a lot more. 14 years had passed from David's first match to Kerry winning the IC title , and if Kevin didn't have 2 kids abt 10, it woulda been hard to tell 4 years had passed in the movie
Positives: Some great acting , camera work was great too . The ending was emotional and beautiful. Kerry's suicide after talking to Kevin abt it was emotional, and Kevin's anger's towards his dad for not tryna step in and help Kerry was acted so good . And just Kerry reuniting and hugging his brothers , including Jack too (who died when Kerry was like a toddler or before he was born ) that was just beautiful. And then Kevin watching his kids playing football , reminded him of his brothers was emotional. And I don't think one line in any movie had hit harder then "I used to be a brother ". Zac's performance throughout the movie was good , nothing great like what I had been hearing but he was good . But man after that ending , he deserves to atleast get nominated for an award.
Inside Out (2015)
THIS IS PEAK PIXAR!!!
I remember being in 6th grade when the trailer came out , I hated it and thought it looked terrible. Then come to 2020, I needed some new movies to watch during COVID and gave this a chance . Now it's one of my personal favorite Pixar films. The writing is great , voice acting is great , animation is great per usual from a Pixar film . The emotional scenes hit really well. It touches on some pretty complex and mature themes for a kids movie . Its one of the best depictions of like depression I've seen in a movie. Despite it being a Pg rating , it's literally a film for all ages . For kids and young teens , it has that Pixar humor and relatability of having to move houses and leave all ur friends and school behind. It's still great for them cause of the humor, even if the plot may go their head for now . For older ppl , it has the more mature themes of depression which they could prob relate too. And I love how at the beginning ur on Joy's side , and hate on sadness cause it just ruins everything (like sadness typically does lol) but throughout the movie , u start to understand sadness alot more . That's great writing .
Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
Insidious:Time to end the franchise?
Insidious red door
I'm liking the premise of the film. Father and son who both went through some trauma together a decade ago now have to fight it again not remembering what happened . It's just not executed good . Acting is eh , the jumpscares aren't good . I do like the scenes where Dalton is seeing the dead or ghost people (before he goes back into the further for the first time again in years ) but overall for the most part the movie is kinda dull . The only saving grace is graces is the premise , and Chris's personality next to daltons . First hour and 10 minutes are pretty slow . Last 40 minutes tho , it speeds up and starts getting better tho . But this franchise needs James wan back for the next one for if they decide to make another one (which they prob will cause I think this one made money ) . The first 2 was great with him , but once he left it's been mid after mid after mid. It's not jeeper creepers level of unfixable, but the more L's (without any wins ) the closer they'll get to being unfixable.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Don't listen to the critics and see it for yourself type of movie
More of a 6.5/10 imo , kind of a casual fan of the franchise but It's an enjoyable movie. Animatronics , and the set are easily the best part . Acting is solid . U just feel bad for Mike , after all he's been through and currently going through with his aunt , not being able to keep a job to support him and his sister . It's kinda hard not to feel bad for him after losing his parents and his brother getting kidnapped. Matthew Lillard prob had the best performance. He did do a really good job imo as William there at the end , but he's barely in it . Ending imo was that good , I just think it woulda been better and more interesting if they didn't turn or he "still had control of them " at the end cause of the sequels (which I think their doing) cause now they don't have a legitimate reason to be these killer ghost robots .Even tho I did like the missing kid storyline , I don't get how Abby or any of the ghost kids knew abt it Garrett. They wasn't supposed to have any memory of what happened , so how could they know abt him ? Also I didn't really like Vanessa's. It's not the good type of dislike u want in a movie , but the bad type . She's just not a good written character. She had so many times to tell Mike what happened, but didn't until the end (which is extremely risky and dumb to wait that long ) the actor did a solid job it's just the writing that screwed her. Some of the kills were fine, just they couldn't show much of it cause of the PG13 rating . Which I'm fine with, even tho they woulda definitely benefited from being rated R, I understand their a kids horror franchise and making it go rated R eliminates majority of their fanbase. I can definitely see it being scary to some kids too . This next part is not me critiquing, just a wishlist for the next movie that coulda been in this one. 1 is ofc the bite of 87 scene , and another I wish there was a scene like the first game where the security guard (or Mike ) is just checking the cameras, and constantly closing the doors whenever one of them gets close to it and he has to save the power too. It woulda been really cool to see in live action.
Spider-Man 2 (2023)
Spider-Man 2 is potentially game of the year
I'll start off with the negatives, which is an extremely small list so that's why it's going first . It's a nitpick , but like not every boss imo should get 3 rounds in a boss fight . Ofc venom , Lizard and Kraven should get 3 rounds since their the 3 biggest villain characters in the game . But the others, only really should get 2 at most . Cause eventually they all just get a bit repetitive (still great fights ). Positives, the main villains were well done . They did a great job of making kraven this big deal to where he didn't really get overshadowed by venom when he finally shows up . Where as the first game , I did like Martin Li as the villain but as soon as doc ock showed up he almost kinda became secondary. Kraven didn't feel like that imo. And the boss fights were improved on for sure , acting was amazing (Yuri Lowenthal should get nominated for an award for his performance) graphics amazing. Some of the side characters (like Miles mom and Hailey) got more screen time then I thought I they were . They built up the on screen relationship between Peter and Harry really well . And Harry's disease storyline was executed really well and actually had a reason to go against peter . Peter knew he needed the suit back cause he was starting to die again , and he didn't . The MJ missions are actually enjoyable too. And i really love how dark it was for a Spider-Man project, like it wasn't Batman level or nothing or rated M, but like they pushed the rates T (for teens) to its limit.
Blue Beetle (2023)
GO SEE BLUE BEETLE
Spoilers , if u haven't seen it then don't read this review. Go and see this . Blue beetle generally is a good movie and it does deserve to break even at the box office and be profitable at the box office . I'll start with what I didn't like , even tho the family dynamic was really good I didn't like how they could take on these high tech trained soldiers. The stuff with the nana at the end can be a bit goofy , and imo if we knew her backstory a bit and it explained why she knew how to handle such a weapon like that would have those scenes look better in my opinion. I think this is the first origin movie in a while where something tragic happens to the character that they gotta overcome (like death) which I liked The acting was good from the family, Xolo is a star, the fight scenes were really good and the blue beetle suit looks great. The family dynamic was really well done (Vin Diesel would love this movie )
Spider-Man: Lotus (2023)
Peter Parker: Lotus
Really Good CGI, and some really good shots of Spider-Man and the city, studios definitely need to hit them up cause they did a really impressive job on a small budget. It is slow and more of a peter parker story. Which the story is good, just not executed good. I like the premise mainly cause I do really like darker/more mature Spider-Man stories. The acting was at best alright for a fan film. I don't like how Peter talks abt all his trauma to a kid with cancer who loves spidey , when he obv didn't need to hear it abt from his favorite hero, and role model . It lacked action , and a main villain throughout it . If it had a main villain that helped make the movie come together, it woulda been a lot better in my opinion. Shoulda named it peter parker: lotus lol.
Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
A solid LIVE ACTION DISNEY REMAKE
Actually a solid Disney live action remake . First half of the movie wasn't that good , but 2nd half was actually pretty good . It's still a pretty similar story , but I really liked some of the differences they had . Especially the biggest one , where it actually adds a lot more depth to Peter and Hook's feud . Acting amongst the kids imo it was alr . Jude law was pretty good as Captain Hook. One of the complaints I had tho , is neverland itself . While the landscape is actually imo beautiful, to me it just doesn't look like a place a kid would wanna stay there forever. I wish they did do a better job on that . I wouldn't mind it if they made a sequel to it , idk if they will tho.
