Take Back the Night (2021)
Refreshing!
This isn't a big budget movie, but it had all the right pieces to keep you thinking. I think the concept of this movie was fantastic and the performance by the lead really brought it all together. In fact I think the acting all around was really good.
Hypochondriac (2022)
Fascinating character study!
I really thought the lead character did an amazing job in this. It takes us on a journey of everything he is going through. The monster in this is so interesting too. I don't want to spoil anything but there are some great scares and some really poignant moments with it!
Malignant (2021)
Yikes.
I wanted to like this because I love Wan's other work, but this feels like he mailed it in. Some of the characters feel like they are from different movies and the story feels like he didn't spend much time with it. Some may say this movie is made to be like a B movie. Ok. I guess. But not for me.
Zalava (2021)
Have you thinking long after you leave the theatre
I have a feeling people who don't like this movie rate the Avengers movies pretty high. The movie broods but takes you on a journey that allows you to investigate your own relationship to the concepts of faith, fear, and motivation. Highly recommend.
The Summoned (2022)
Not for everyone, but I loved it.
Saw this movie at Overlook film festival and will way it is more of a thriller than a horror, and if you are looking for a gorefest this definitely isn't it. It's great quality for a lower budget movie and I found it to be just the right amount of intrigue and mystery. The acting was great with some great humor mixed in throughout. The characters were really fun! I won't give away spoilers, but I will say that there are some fun twists that you really have to keep an eye on. This isn't any sort of giveaway but the main characters are phenomenal singers and there is a moment where they show off their pipes.
