Flash Gordon (1980)
Savior of The Universe
I'll start by saying this, from a technical standpoint this movie is nothing outstanding. With that being said, I had a hell of a time watching it, and many superhero/sci-fi movies owe alot of their inspiration to flash. The movie is a fun, funny, and all around enjoyable watch that does not take itself too seriously...the soundtrack added too by Queen also slaps hard.
Shaft (1971)
Smooth and Funky
Shaft (1971) has a bit less action than one might expect which for some may be a drawback. I thoroughly enjoyed my viewing regardless of this, John Shaft is a very likeable protagonist, and the whole aura of the movie oozes with the 70s...if that's your jam you'll be down with Shaft.
The Black Phone (2021)
Intriguing, but landed a little short
Overall the movie was decent, it did a relatively good job at building tension in moments. With that being said, I never quite felt that the suspense that was built had truly satisfying or equally suspenseful payoffs.
Le pacte des loups (2001)
A Rare Gem
This movie has a beautiful ambiance and great shot composition. The plot was mostly very entertaining, however, without close attention paid the finer details may be a bit fuzzy. This may not be as big of an issue with the movie itself, but rather if you are watching as an english speaker. With all of this being said, the movie was an enjoyable watch with some very entertaining fight coriography.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
A Monumental Cosmic Adventure
A visually stunning picture with effective use use of score as well as making great use of no score at all. This is a story of cosmic questions and abstract answers. The picture is both tense and incredibly thought provoking. Truly ahead of its time in so many ways. This film will make you feel a sense of wonder, and dread at the same time as Kubrick reminds of our infancy in the cosmos. Definitely give it a watch.
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
Western Galore
A very entertaining story of revenge and renewal with plenty of action and memorable quotes. Atmosphere and sets wonderfully capture the gritty violence and rustic beauty of the post civil war west.
