By far not one of the best Ghibli studio films
30 May 2022
I dont like starting off with criticism but Jesus the plot was all over the place. The conclusion of the movie was very confusing. And the characters were kind of one dimensional, I felt indifferent to each one of them. But that being said it's still a Ghibli studio project so you can expect stunning visuals. Other than that there is nothing that I really could say about this motion picture. It was over all enjoyable but unfortunately kind of forgettable.

really enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
I really really loved the aesthetics of the movie. I personally thinks it's fantastic. The confusion concerning love between each person of the love triangle felt realistic and relatable and the art style was impeccable. The shots with the wide white frame however were confusing and a questionable choice. The plot was cohesive and over all enjoyable. The mixture between love and getting older hit a bit too close to home. The only real complaint is have is that it is too short, I would have liked it to be a bit longer.

Cream of the crop work from Studio Ghibli
28 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love the art style of Studio Ghibli and Mononoke-hime does not disappoint in that regard. My god is it a beautiful movie. Despite it being a childrens movie it was soo enjoyable and touching. There is hardly anything wrong with it, only some minute plot inconsistencies, like why the mentioning of the home village of Ashitaka is so briefly mentioned and the meaning of the talisman. But all in all I could very much enjoy the movie and the few flaws I found are so unimportant that it did not interfere with the experience.

quite possibly one of the greatest action films of all time
25 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I personally view the John Wick franchise as a part of the Avant-garde of action movies. Of course the movie is (compared to more plot based movies at least) deprived of such, plot lines and story telling. Plus the story and even just some scenes in general are also a bit dragged down by a certain drift towards edginess. Additionally, I tend to avoid questioning wether a human being can actually handle the John Wick lifestyle if any bit of consciousness or morality is involved, but I give them the benefit of the doubt. Contrary to the criticism I just gave, the movie knocks it out of the ball park. The action (and how graphic it is at times), the pacing of the movie, the sets/atmosphere, all nothing short of perfection. I had a jolly good time watching this film, and I consider it one of the best action movies ever made.

It's morbin time

Warning: Spoilers
It's morbin time. Without question the best movie of all time, and also the highest grossing. Jared Leto is without doubt a better actor than Robert DeNiro could ever be.

Really great sequel
17 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Possibly the greatest sequel for an already perfect movie. But in my opinion Godfather II doesn't hit as hard as Godfather I. It still hits hard tho. The movie is longer than the first part of the trilogy which was one of my complaints for The Godfather I. The story is also a lot more complex and you have to piece together a lot more moving parts and draw conclusions yourself which is on the one hand cool because it forces the viewer to pay attention but on the other hand exhausting at points. Furthermore Michael's descend into madness, even going as far as getting Fredo killed in the end is a tad bit extreme but I'll give the movie the benefit of the doubt because everything else is just impeccable. Especially the scenery of the houses with Lake Tahoe right in front of them. The back and forth between the Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro parts are also on point.

The Godfather (1972)

a masterpiece
17 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
To be Quote honest this movie isn't a perfect 10/10. It's a nearly perfect movie and truly a benchmark for cinema. Everything you could take into consideration when rating a movie is top notch in this film. But there are two complaints I have: The character of Sonny was a bit to flashy and the duration of the movie is quite the number. Now, of course everything in the movie was necessary for the plot and the character development of for example Michael but you cannot deny that especially movie newcomers can find the movie boring at points because it is so dense in its plot with only a few sprinkles of action. That didn't bother me, I think the movie has a great rolling time and it's one of the best if not the best movie ever made but nonetheless it's something of challenge to watch for people that aren't as interested in movies as other people are.

Magnificent piece of cinema
14 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This Movie may be the best romance films I have ever seen. It's a damn near impeccable piece of cinema. The characters were really sophisticated and interesting, the dialogue felt realistic and natural and the atmosphere and the scenery was the cherry on top. I can't stress how beautiful this movie looks. Furthermore the portrayal of Oliver, Elio and his parents was magnificent. The amount of skill and talent required to pull of a musically talented and polyglot teenager is immense and Timothee Chalamet truly hit the ball out of the park on that one. Lastly the plot and the ending were very moving, to not cry at the end of the movie is a Herculean task.

I can only point out two plot flaws that I noticed: 1. The characters were too intelligent at certain points. Even just outside of Elio and Oliver, many side characters often switched between Italian, English and French, which seems exaggerated and destroys the immersion during these conversations. 2. The relationship between Elio und Marzia could have been explored a bit more. Especially at the end when they shake on just being friends, it felt as if a teeny tiny bit of content had to come before that; the solution itself isn't unrealistic, just the context of their relationship came a bit short. But all in all still wonderful.

Warning: Spoilers
The movie has a vast array of plot discontinuities, many small details that stagger up and make the film seem unathentic. The cast was stacked but I was somewhat disappointed by their performances which is mainly the fault of the script. The movie itself has no real soul, it just seems to commercial. There was financial backing and talent but no real passion from the producers and writers. I expected way more and I was let down tremendously. The only remarkably good aspect was the "betrayal" of the female lead, whose I name I forgot because the movie is just so forgettable, to pursue her former love interest but that got kicked in the sand quickly which is tragic because it was a nice little plot twist which could have made the movie more interesting if done right.

top notch cinema

Warning: Spoilers
Now, Tarantino is one of the best directors in my opinion. And Django Unchained is a damn near masterpiece. The, actors and their performance, the camera work, the plot; all nearly immaculate. I enjoy the over the top nature of Tarantino's work, like the gushing blood or the character of Stephen. Furthermore the realistic dialogue, in general how people converse in this movie is a real treat. And the score for the movie is extremely catchy. The only two minor complaints about the movie are a.) in the first half of the movie, Django and Dr. Schultz ride through a city and people turn their heads at the sight of them but that completely disappears after that and any other city scene avoids that scenario entirely, which seems unrealistic and b.) how neatly Django was able to set up the wire for the dynamite. It is placed quite elaborate and I doubt that he had the time to install the wire that way since the remaining people of Candyland were already on the premises and the reunion with broom Hilda was already at dawn so the time table seems to be cut short for a quite professional installation. But other than that the movie is, as I already said, highly enjoyable. Tarantino doesn't rely on basic tropes or telling a story in order to push some narrative about morality or doing the right thing. And although the story is about revenge and doing what's right and also has a few clichés, the movie doesn't have that at its core. The movie isn't trying to be about that. It's a movie that simply tells a moving story about people fighting for each other. It's not here to remind people that slavery is a bad thing or that being an evil person is a big no no, it simply tells a story with some realistic and relatable characters that are very much human. And I can respect that heavily.

nothing special
8 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you watch the Movie solely for the entertainment aspect, this motion picture will be enjoyable. But the second you start to question the plot, the whole thing falls apart. The slight hints towards how the rest of the world interacts with the fraternity are not enough, the backstory of the fraternity itself is kind of far fetched and the decryption of the yarn as well. The self sacrifice of the female lead comes out of the blue and the payoff at the end of the movie makes the entire movie's point nonsensical as we can't see the aftermath and the effects of the actions committed by the protagonist, which in this case seems necessary for the plot. And don't even get me started on the plot conveniences. But, credit where credit is due, the sceneries of the movies were great and so was the camera perspectives. The plot twist at the end was also set up nicely.

It's an alright movie
6 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't watch the movie with the intention of finding a breakdown of some riveting philosophical topic or whatever; it's an action movie and that's exactly what you get. In typical action movie fashion the characters and the plot were kind of dull and one dimensional but all in all it wasn't a bad movie by any accounts. The action was good and some shots had quite the appeal. The only real issues I have with the movie are the love interest trope and how poorly it was executed and the consensus between the protagonist and antagonist at the end of the movie.
