A Monster Calls (2016)
A really good movie
A really good movie.
It felt really slow at the beginning and in the scenes with Conor's dad. It was also really hard to hear whenever the Monster wasn't on screen. I don't know if that was just a problem with my family's speakers, or if it's just how the movie actually is.
The VFX were incredible, as well as the acting. The plot was suspenseful.
It was emotional.
Turning Red (2022)
Connects
It's not perfect, but it really works.
The plot was fun, the characters were adorable and relatable to those who grew up in the early 2000s and actually look their age, and it really hit the humour and emotional moments on the mark.
The animation style was cute and you can really tell what the story creator was trying to say with this film.
Individuality is really important, especially when you're just a child.
I'm also really glad it make an effort to talk about puberty. Not a lot of kid's movies will make even a reference to it -- especially in young girls. I'm really happy this one did, though. It's important to life and needs to be normalised.
Props to Domee Shi for actually connecting with the experiences of young audiences. Especially those who grew up around the time the film is set.
The Batman (2022)
A real Batman movie
A genuinely great movie! One of the better DC movies I've seen come out in a while. The whole cast was amazing, the story was incredible! The soundtrack and score was phenomenal.
Major props to the cast and crew.
The twists and suspense really kept this film going.
The chemistry between Zoë and Robert was amazing.
That little peek at another fan favourite villain there toward the end was unexpected.
This actually felt like a Batman movie.
I can't wait to see what they do next with this iteration of the story.
Uncharted (2022)
Don't Listen to the Critics
A fun movie, humorous and full of action. The comedic timing was great.
This is an incredible prequel to the video games. Top notch.
Everyone complaining about Nathan Drake not being as cocky as he is in the games, he's just as cocky in this movie. The trailer just didn't show all of it because the scenes would spoil the whole movie.
The villains were great. The plot twists were great.
The ending pre-credits is so suspenseful and leaves room for a sequel. As does the mid-credit scene.
I docked two points in my rating due to two reasons: The first ten minutes of the film felt like they went by way too fast, and Mark Wahlberg is still being employed for some reason.
Tom's executive producer debut was amazing. Can't wait to see if they do another film.
Onward (2020)
Love, loss, fighting, and making up.
Such a fun family movie. Heartwarming, heartbreaking.
Onward is a magical but very realistic tale of brothers. Love, loss, fighting, and making up.
Despite what problems it and some of its cast have, it's still a story that will bring tears to your eyes and make your heart wrench for Ian and Barley.
The soundtrack is also one of the best things I've ever heard. Sacrifice and Carried Me With You are some of the best pieces of music -- score and song -- I've ever heard from a Disney film.
Top five Pixar films, hands down.
Dune (2021)
Lack of Zendaya
What was this movie so long for? It felt like I was sitting here for five hours.
Other than the absurd length, I actually kind of enjoyed this in some parts.
But why was Zendaya such a pinnacle part of the marketing for this film when she was only in it for a few short minutes? What was the reason?
We need more bagpipe scores in film, too. This soundtrack is just incredible!
Smash & Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers (2013)
Boring
I came for the crime and what I got instead was... whatever this was.
It lost my attention barely 20 minutes in. This definitely could have been done and made better.
The House (2022)
We need more stop-motion animated films!
Three interesting yet different stories told in interesting ways.
I'm a really big fan of stop-motion animation films, so this was such a fun movie for me to witness with my own two eyes!
The first part was very creepy and suspenseful. Part two was downright disturbing. And part three was more-so enraging.
Even though it left me a little confused, I really liked it!
Gold (2022)
Interesting
An interesting film for you to put on if you need to pass the time.
Barely any characters and Zac works great on his own in this.
It has an ending you think you see coming, and then as the film continues on you start to question yourself over and over again.
Cruella (2021)
In Defence of Cruella
So much better than what the critics are saying. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a fun movie, even if some of the CGI is a little wonky. The script could use a little work but it gets its point across and sets up for an amazing sequel.
Wish Dragon (2021)
Incredible
This movie was incredible. The story, the plot, the animation, and the voice acting was impeccable. I adored it!
Everything worked so well together!

The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
GET THAT LGBT+ REP!
THIS THIS THIS!!! Peak comedic timing, incredible cast, magnificent visuals and soundtrack! Also... GET THAT LGBT+ REP!
This is a great movie worth rewatching!
Coraline (2009)
A classic!
A classic. Such a fan of Laika films. The time and effort put into these movies is inspiring
it's eerie and spooky and a cautionary tale. Deserves the hype and respect it gets.
Brave (2012)
Top four
In my top four. This movie is amazing and deserves more recognition and credit than what it gets. It's amazing and was a big step for Disney and Pixar, delving into a darker storyline than what they had done before.
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Lost
I didn't like it. It was underwhelming, dragged on, and felt so much longer than just two hours.
The dialogue fell flat in most places and it kept getting lost.
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Love it so much!
One of my favourites, hands down. While it does lag in some areas (and the shots underwater were hard to see at times) it's still a fun ride and really enjoyable. The cast is amazing.
Luca (2021)
Adorable!
An adorable movie. I absolutely adored it and recommend it to everyone. Just get tissues for yourself, you will cry.
Love this movie!

Maleficent (2014)
Sorry Brenton Thwaites
Amazing new take on the character, instant classic. Making the true loves kiss something other than romantic (sorry Brenton Thwaites) was a bold move on Disney's part and really makes you think about other chances of it in their films.
Midsommar (2019)
Horrifying and disturbing
This movie is very haunting and disturbing. Definitely not for anyone with a weak stomach.
It continues taking turns you don't expect and leaves you in total shock.
It draws you in and, if the tricks used while shooting and editing work on you, leaves you feeling like you witnessed it all first-hand.
The Addams Family (2019)
Unpopular opinion
Unpopular opinion but I adore this movie. It's cute and fun and the characters actually look like the original comic designs!
The comedy really hits the mark!
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Good
Incredible continuation, if a little of a letdown. The trailer made it seem as though the court hearing would be throughout the film but it's only there in the last three minutes of the film.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
Aesthetically Pleasing
Michelle Pfeiffer, Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning. The aesthetics. It's just-*chef's kiss*
The scene in the fae's hiding place is the most beautiful scene I've ever seen.
Joker (2019)
Not worth the hype
It was okay... i liked it as a film but it's not this Cinematic Masterpiece you all were making it out to be.
Needs a lot of work and isn't worth the hype....
Us Again (2021)
Adorable, exciting, and fun
Adorable, exciting, and fun. The visuals are incredible and you can easily tell what they're trying to say through their dance even without the use of dialogue.
Disney's short films never miss!
Tom and Jerry (2021)
Definitely recommend.
While this film lacks a certain something, it doesn't deserve any of the aggressive hate people have been giving it.
It's funny, it's cute, it has a plot that works, and the balance between live action and cartoony cgi animation works well in a way reminiscent of who framed roger rabbit and space jam. The cast did an amazing job with what they were given.
My family and I really enjoyed this film and will most likely watch it again soon. Definitely recommend.
