A Powerful Story Finally Being Told
3 February 2022
Despite what everyone else says, I enjoyed this film. It had a bit of a political ring to it (you'll understand once you watch this) but it's still a story worth telling.

Based on the reviews, it's either a hit or a miss, but regardless of how you feel about this film, I didn't find it to be nearly as bad as people are saying it is.

Dune (2021)

A True Cinematic Masterpiece
3 February 2022
Dune is genuinely such a beautiful film I could go on and on about this for hours... every single scene was lock screen photo worthy (and that speaks volumes).

I've never read the book, so I found myself confused here and there but overall, it was pretty easy to follow along with the plot and the characters.

Highly recommend this masterpiece!

Great Soundtrack, Not-So-Great Storyline
2 February 2022
Though I usually tend to love Disney films, I felt "Encanto" fell short in terms of its plotline. It's a bit of a slow starter, which contributes to my fairly mid rating. However, whatever the storyline lacked, the soundtrack gave double. You won't be able to get these songs out of your head (and I'm okay with that)!

It's a hit or a miss. You either love it or find it on the lower end of the Disney spectrum, but either way, it's not a terrible film... It just could be better.

Not the Best, but Still Enjoyable
2 February 2022
Despite its mixed reviews, I genuinely enjoyed this film. From start to finish, there was never a dull moment and the plot never ceased to keep me at the edge of my seat. From what I understood, The 355 is definitely a female-empowerment film (with 5 badass women, might I add!), and I will likely rewatch this in the coming months.

As with most action films I've watched over the years, there were a few confusing moments scattered throughout the film (my primary reason for the 4 star rating), but the action made up for any vagueness in the plotline.

Overall, I enjoyed this film and I would recommend it to anyone craving an action-packed movie that'll keep you on your toes all throughout.

While Not the Best Spider-Man Film, It Deserves its Praise
12 January 2022
Whether you've seen Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's iterations of the Spider-Man character, Tom Holland's performance is sure to blow you away. A natural talent, it didn't take long for me to fall in love with Holland's personality (both as Spider-Man and as himself). "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is the classic Spider-Man we all know and love, but with a fresh twist. Action sequences never looked better in a Spider-Man film, and it is surely on-par with the previous SM films.

Overall, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is well worth the watch, whether you are a long-term Marvel fan or just breaking into the franchise.

The Best Spider-Man Film To-Date
12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS.

I had the opportunity to watch this gem of a movie on Opening Night with my sister (also a longtime fan of Spider-Man), and wow. What a film. It crushed all of my expectations, leaving me stunned and speechless by the end of the film.

My showtime was sold-out, and my god, were the reactions incredible. From the first ten minutes of the film to the final five, I've never experienced anything like it. I'd compare it to Avengers: Endgame crowd reactions. The film managed to seamlessly bring back our beloved Spider-Man characters that we grew up with (Yes, Andrew and Tobey are back!), while maintaining the same look and feel of Holland's previous Spider-Man films.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland's chemistry was very well-rounded, with occasional bits of comedy put at just the right times. If you liked "Dr. Strange", you will definitely enjoy this film, as it ties into "Dr. Strange"'s aesthetic incredibly.

Holland's chemistry with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire is unmatched and reminded me of a sibling or brotherly bond. In terms of action sequences, the three Spider-Men carried in their own ways, giving the crowd plenty of action and energy, but never overpowering each other. Just a beautiful blend, here.

Overall, "Spider-Man No Way Home" was incredibly enjoyable, and I would highly recommend and encourage you to watch this film in theatres (if that opportunity is available to you). Dare I say, it's better than Avengers: Endgame...

Solid Start, but Struggles to Keep Up with Itself
12 January 2022
Seasons 1-4, I cannot argue with. There was always something going on that kept me at the edge of my seat, and I thoroughly enjoyed that. However, as the show progressed, I couldn't help but grow tired of the repetition. It's more of a soap opera now, which, if that's what you enjoy, go for it. I grew less and less interested in the "who's kissing who" aspect and just wanted to know what happens next in the facility. Overall, it starts off strong, but it's definitely being stretched out far too long.

The Peak of Comedy
12 January 2022
A genuinely funny, feel-good family show. Usually, I find it challenging to find titles under the "Comedy" filter actually funny. "Schitt's Creek" was one of the first times I could actually feel myself bubbling with laughter and joy with my family. Each character has their own hilarious personality that fits right into the show's aesthetic, and whether you end up loving it or hating it, it's easy to say that the show deserves some recognition. With a stellar cast (Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Dan Levy), you know you're in for a treat with each episode. Highly recommend this gem!

A Slow-Starter, but Well Worth the Wait
12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While the series starts off quite slow and can be a bit repetitive, it is well worth the wait. Regardless of where you stand with religion, "Lucifer" has much more to offer than you think. Tom Ellis shines as Lucifer, with Lauren German, D. B. Woodside, and Lesley-Ann Brandt, along with the rest of the wonderful cast each have raw talent to bring to the table. With each episode, you can't help but get hooked to the series more and more: I've found myself watching the series for hours on end! I also appreciate how the show emphasizes the importance of active listening through a therapist (Rachael Harris), as she ends up playing a rather large role in the series later on. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this series and will surely miss watching it.

Fun and Feel-Good!
12 January 2022
A fun, whimsical take on a somewhat sensitive topic: the Afterlife. So far, I have been enjoying "The Good Place", I'd actually call it my comfort show. Very much a feel-good series, it's easy to fall in love with the characters as they maneuver through "The Good Place" and "The Bad Place". Quite enjoyable!

Unlike Any of the New Films
12 January 2022
Scorsese has done it again. In "The Irishman", we follow Frank Sheeran as he works up the ladder to become the greatest hit man in history. As he recalls his life, I can't help but marvel at the stunning visuals. They truly don't make films like this any more. Overall, this film is a gem, and while it is definitely NOT family-friendly, I could see myself watching this again (this time, with my family) someday in the future.

Female Empowerment Taken to the Next Level
12 January 2022
Ocean's 8 is a highly enjoyable film from start to finish. There was never a dull moment as we watch a group of women (from a stellar cast!) pull off one of the biggest heists in history. Plot twists and celebrity appearances galore! Unlike the other films in the "Ocean's" lineup, this film focuses on female thieves, but don't let that sway you from watching this film. The acting is superb, you can tell the cast had a lovely time working on set. Quite an entertaining and fun film!

Triumphant and Colourful!
12 January 2022
What a film. There's nothing like the joys and boldness of broadway and theatre, and this film perfectly encapsulated it all. Not only is the cast list incredible, but the overall storyline of this film blew me away. As a thespian, I could relate to Barnum's story on so many levels (feeling overjoyed and prideful, feeling doubtful in my work and goals, etc.) and the film's aesthetic is unmatched. If I could describe this film to someone who has yet to experience the art of theatre, I would say it's like New Year's Eve times 100. Just fantastic.

Thoroughly Enjoyable Film
12 January 2022
To be honest, I was unsure of what to expect based on the mixed reviews of this film. However, I was left blown away by the raw talent and beautiful aesthetic this film had to offer. Not only did it capture Mickey's life wonderfully, but I was able to relate to the story in one way or another. At times, I found myself a bit lost in the storyline, but either way, this film was quite enjoyable, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants raw honesty and energy in film form.
