Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006)
What a complete letdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope people get to see both sides of the reviews for this movie as I thought it was the most over-hyped letdown of the year.whoever came up with the idea to say this is the next big slasher movie should be fired or never make a movie again as it didn't apply to this.
I didn't laugh at any of the jokes and was even more disappointed at the lack of kills (not to mention this has as much gore as a bad Mick Garris TV movie- Ughh).
Then there's the actors. This could be the biggest misfire of the film. The killer is about as big as Nicole Ritchie and the female lead just comes off completely flat and unbelievable. They should both stick to other genres of film than horror but I guess this isn't really a horror movie so whatever.
I guess I should have listened to my friend who was actually bamboozled into seeing this at a film festival and walked out of the screening extremely disappointed. Bummer....
Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield (2007)
Do not miss this one!!!
Finally!!! A good movie made on the most demented serial killer in history. For those less familiar with Ed Gein, he was basically the madman who was known for grave robbing and skinning his victims (which most horror fans ripped off). Shot in a period style that reflects the bleak plains of Wisconsin perfectly, this is easily the most atmospheric horror film yet to depict Gein and his gruesome killings. Kane Hodder (Jason from Friday the 13th series) and Michael Berryman (Hills have Eyes I & II), deliver chilling performances in this serial killer opus that easily leaves behind the lackluster former Gein attempts. So far I'd say this is one of the better horror films released this year (Turistas = 0).
