Intersect (2020)
I could use a time machine ...
... to get the time back i've lost by watching this movie. Simply said, it's a waste of time. You're waiting for action which never comes. You're waiting for something which explains what you see but it never comes. The story was incomprehensible for me. Sure, it could be due to my shortcomings but i rather doubt it. It's not worth watching.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
Selling your name was a cosmic sin, Bruce!
Bruce Willis has sold his name and image to be used in this movie. At first i believed that that was a briljant move. Earning money without having to act himself must have looked like very easy money and without any risc.
A foolish decision which might prove fatal for his career as this movie is so bad that it defies the human imagination. In some cases using a CGI caracter in a movie becomes essential when the actor dies in real life. That's not the case here, Bruce Willis is stil alive. The acting (if it can be called that) of his CGI duplicate is so terribly bad that it will have a terrible influence on his career.
The movie is a complete waste of time due to bad acting all the actors; there's no real story in it, it completely lacks content, structure and explanation.
In my opinion "Cosmic Sin" is even worse than "Plan nine from outer space", so it's best to keep away from it.
The Mist (2017)
A waste of time, watch the movie instead
The film was great, thrilling and full of mystery. So many questions remained unresolved that i welcomed the start of the series. I expected the series to (slowly) answer several questions and improve the viewers knowlegde of main characters and circumstances. The series starts slow and progresses at a snails pace. After seven episodes i'm very disappointed about this series. The series is practically the same as the movie, only at a snails pace. There are scenes which are not in the movie, however they seem unrelated to the main story. Perhaps in a later stage the relevance of those scenes will be revealed, who knows. In any case, I won't be watching new episodes anymore as i consider that a complete waste of time.
Designated Survivor (2016)
Mindless entertainment
To start with the sour: Realism isn't one of the strong points of this series. For instance, the Designated Survivor stays at a location so close to the Captiol that he can see the explosion of the Capitol with his own eyes. It adds to the drama but it completely defeats the intended purpose of a Designated Survivor. In the series the function of designated Survivor is portrayed as merely a formality, thus attempting to make it believable that a low-level Cabinet member could become president. This distances the DS Kirkman so much from the "dirty" politics from the Hill, that he becomes irreproachable for the viewer. He becomes someone you can relate to; the simple guy who takes on the symbolized (corrupt) system in an attempt to make the world a better place. And the symbolism doesn't stop there. Even the Kirkman family is stylized as the "ideal" American family.
The scriptwriter has taken a common perception of politics (dirty, fraudulent, treasonous and criminal) and written a thriller around it. It's not "left wing propaganda" - as some call it - but something fictional based on that perception.
I.m.h.o. the low marks and bad reviews are unjust. This series is not a true representation of the government and/or politics, it is fictional and meant to capture the audience. I enjoyed watching it and so can you, as long as you don't think a lot about it.
Monolith (1993)
Who can i sue for the waste of time?
Every so often i have the opportunity to see a movie which isn't highly rated. Monolith (1993) was rated 4.3 at IMDb. This score is a lot higher than it really deserves. As a sci-fi fan, i don't care to much if a plot or props and such are unconvincing. Even the acting isn't a real issue for me. This film had a good plot (even if it is a bit stale) and the acting wasn't bad. So why the low score? Well, there are several things in this movie which destroy the immersion i'd like to get from a sci-fi movie. I'll give three examples. In the beginning of the movie, a 'deranged' woman tries to kill a young boy. She chases the boy in a car while the boy is running away. According to the sounds of the engine of the car, she's driving high speed and the car is moving really fast. Yet the boy, on foot, not really very fast, manages to keep ahead of the chasing car, nonetheless (1). He ducks into an alley and the car chases behind him. You can see the boy running in the ally with the car in the background. (The car isn't moving at all). The camera switches into the car and it's moving very fast (2). At the end of the movie the main characters jump from the departing flying saucer which flies at the top of the skyscrapers. Their drop only lasts about a second (3). The movie has lots of things like the three examples i've mentioned which made the movie an utter disappointment to me. Perhaps i've been spoiled during the years but if your wise, skip this movie and save yourself time for more pleasurable things to watch.
Defcon 2012 (2010)
Mediocre to worse
Three out of ten possible stars is more than enough for this movie. Taking into account the budget of just $35.000 this movie isn't as bad as could have been. The movie starts off with a man in black suite and the audio of several newscasts made with a commonly used voice-synthesizer. The scenes give a sense of mystery to the viewer (which i really liked), however the artificial voices are ruining that feeling. I simply can't understand why Carolina Liechtenstein resorted to voice-synthesizers for that part. It is a major put off. The sound quality, the decors, the acting is as can be expected with such a low budget. Mediocre at best but worse most of the time. Worst of all, the sequence of events is so sssslllllllooooooooooowwwww! Frankly, a snail dipped in super glue goes around in an Olympic pace compared to the 'action' in this movie. I was forced to use the fast-forward button more than once. During most of the movie i kept on asking myself "What the heck is this movie about?" and at the end i still have to guess what it was about. Perhaps i need to see it twice or three times to comprehend it completely but that prospect doesn't really appeal to me. Still, it's much better than Aliens vs Avatars. The special effects are occasionally reasonably good (the CAD/CAM for instance) considering the budget. Summorizing: It's not a movie i would recommend to anyone, not even SF fans.
Aliens vs. Avatars (2011)
Undefinable load of manure
Unfortunately, zero or a minus number of stars are not allowed, because even one star is already too much credit for this undefinable load of manure. Plan nine from outer space is Oscar material in comparison to this waste of time. Is it really that bad, you might ask. No, it's even worse. The acting is awful. The script is awful. The costumes are even worse. A teenager with a moderate computer could make better effects. It looks like someone decided to make a film without any budget at all. The result is as can be expected. Just five minutes into the film, i already knew it was bad. Instead of switching it off, i kept watching it, hoping it would improve. A dreadful mistake on my part. It didn't get better, it got worse. Save yourself a lot of wasted time and don't bother watching it. You'll be a lot better off. The only advantage of watching more than an hour of this garbage is that bad films such as Plan nine from outer space or Starcrash seem to have become a lot more watchable than before.
The Andromeda Strain (2008)
Plan nine from outer-space was more credible than this!
36 years later, better CGI etc. so I had high hopes that this miniseries would be even better than the film from 1971. Unfortunately, it proved to be a big disappointment. The acting is bad, the CGI is worse and the story ...... Well, i guess a new word has to be invented to describe it properly. The original story, which had a big mysterious ring to it, has been altered for the worse. The story has been poisoned with paranoid idea's on the future, politics, governmental conspiracy's, conservation of the planet etc. etc. etc.. Flavoured with a little wormhole and spiced with a time paradox. And there you have it! A castrated remake of a superb film! This miniseries is worse than Plan nine from outer-space by far! I'm utterly disgusted with myself for having watched this ...... (truck-)load of horse excrement. Avoid this film, if you liked the '71 version!
Earthstorm (2006)
Incredibly bad
After Plan 9 from Outer Space one could think that it can't get worse. Wrong! It CAN get worse. It's incredible but this film is worse. After so many years, Plan 9 finally has found a worthy successor of the questionable honor of being the worst SF film ever.
Though the acting isn't all that bad, almost everything else is. Many films have some flaws. When you spot them during the viewing, you kind of accept them. Earthstorm, on the other hand, contained so many flaws that it really became annoying. It is an utter waste of time and money. As well the creation of this film, as the watching of this film. Regrettably, it has set a new standard of how bad a film can be.
