The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)
If you don't over-analyze it, it was pure, simple comedy
As a 34 year old woman, I grew up wanting to be Daisy Duke. The Dukes of Hazzard are near and dear to me. I thought this movie was great. Anyone who complains about the plot needs to watch an old Dukes episode or two. They were ALL cheesy and convoluted. But we loved the show anyway. This movie was the director's vision of Hazzard, not a carbon copy of the TV show, so if you expected that - then yes, you are going to be disappointed with the film. The cast does NOT mirror the original actors, but they did a great job, and I think they all work - save for Sheriff Coltrane. He was badly miscast. Roscoe is a bumbling idiot and this actor played him as a sly, crooked cop.
Burt Reynolds did a great job as a different version of Boss Hogg, although I really would have rather seen him as the short, fat slob that he was. Jessica Simpson played the sexy, sassy Daisy Duke to perfection, and all the naysayers should put aside their personal feelings about her and give her the credit she is due. Willie Nelson made a fabulous Uncle Jesse, too! The storyline was classic 'Dukes' and the action was phenomenal. I almost had a tear in my eye the first time I heard the General Lee's horn sound. There was some updated humor, like the social commentary on the big Confederate flag on the roof of the car. And those of us in Georgia appreciated the humor in the Duke boys getting stuck in Atlanta traffic.
All in all, it was mindless, nostalgic fun. Good chase scenes, good crashes, very funny jokes, and a big heaping dose of Duke family loyalty. Go see it, and keep in mind that the film is not vying for an Oscar nod.
Oscar (1991)
A classic!
*VERY* funny movie with great performances from all the actors. Stallone, Palminteri and Tomei give great comedic performances and Tim Curry is hysterical as Dr. Thornton Poole. Well cast, and full of memorable, quotable lines.
A Crack in the Floor (2001)
So pathetic that it is funny.
A Crack In The Floor falls into the category of movies that are so pathetically bad that you watch them in order to laugh at them.
Mario Lopez is the only former alumnus of Saved By The Bell that Elizabeth Berkeley has a right to mock.
The acting is terrible, the dialogue is even worse - and the storyline is downright laughable.
My husband and I caught this one on cable and at first couldn't believe how bad it was and just as we were about to change the channel, Gary Busey's character was introduced. We laughed so hard we had tears in our eyes. Although I'm not sure if we were laughing harder at his performance or the fact that he was in this stinker in the first place.
We thoroughly enjoyed laughing at the remainder of this film. Rent it for pure campy amusement.
