Girls (2012)
Time to end this show
I actually liked Season 1 but it went downhill from there. Now I'm watching Season 5 and am appalled by how bad it is but at the same time very interested to understand why Lena Dunham feels she must have her character show her vagina to her supervisor, steal a poor guy's bike, hike a mountain in her bikini and generally show off her naked body in random moments even though the plot doesn't require it. The answer is simple.
The show is doing terribly. The plot is silly, the female characters are all variations of one character, that of a narcissistic, confused, spoiled brat. The only thing that can make people passionate about this show and keep watching it, is their hatred for Lena Dunham's character. She must have thought "you want to hate me? I'll give you reasons to hate me". Hence this last year Hannah became even more obnoxious, spoiled, rude and narcissistic. But the worst thing is the flaunting of her naked body in every episode. This is not the healthy reaction of an overweight woman who feels confident in her own skin. Nope. It is provoking and of poor taste and every time she shows me her naked ass I feel like she's also screaming: "in your face then!" Agh. No, no thanks.
Jupiter Ascending (2015)
Blunt as a rice wafer but with action, spectacular effects and Sean Bean in it.
I can't believe this came from the same people who did The Matrix and V for Vendetta. Being a big Wachowskis fan I felt embarrassed to watch this film till the end. But I did. The special effects were spectacular and that was about it. The characters were caricatures, there was no depth to them and their lines were so boring they made me roll my eyes. So, Jupiter (Mila Kunis) gets kidnapped, almost killed, promoted to Queen, discovers that the earth is being used to "cultivate" humans for consumption and her acting is "oh, just another day". She just gets to move around a lot. There was no soul to the main character, no spark. The only thing that made me think that the film had potential was when Sean Bean first appeared and started explaining to Kunis how we humans came from Orion, inhabited the earth hundreds of thousands of years ago and mated with other species (Neanderthals apparently). At that point I thought the film was going to be about the origins of humankind but, nope, it was about a couple of brats trying to get cleaner-queen of the earth Kunis to hand over the planet to them. That was a very high budget film and the actors were good which makes it even more of a shame for its wasted potential.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
What a travesty
Wow... I just watched it. I just changed my rating from 3 to 1 star in my attempt to try and lower that ridiculous high score that film has acquired from OBVIOUS human bots. There is no way this film can appeal to Star Wars fans. It doesn't and it is obvious from all the comments here. It felt like a Chinese replica of Episode IV. No Star Wars spirit in it, plenty of holes in the (unoriginal) plot and likable but unbelievable main characters. What's that with the girl kicking the baddie's experienced highly trained butt while she had JUST discovered she has the force herself?! The part that she was teaching Hans Solo how to fly his own ship was just embarrassing. I rarely leave reviews on films I watch but that one was such a huge disappointment I felt I had to. For me the Star Wars films are 6, and will remain 6.
