Half & Half (2002)
A bit boring after the 3rd season
I enjoy this sitcom because it doesn't settle among stereotypes for black women, I enjoyed the over all plot of siblings put at disadvantages due to the choices of their parents. It showcases the ways we can work through our differences, our trauma, and healing our inner child. Now towards the plot aside from the sisters it's a bit predictable, corny, and a bit stale. It loses its luster and it's not very funny to begin with, it could have taken a few notes from moesha or the Parker's.
The Parkers (1999)
Comfort comedy!
I have only ever seen this sitcom in passing, but when Netflix added more black centered sitcoms I decided to add it to the list! Mo'nique has always made me laugh growing up as a child, her humor isn't simply based off of crude jokes. She knows how to have fun without hurting anybody, I also enjoyed that this wasn't simply a statement show, but a show people could watch to have a good laugh!
Choi-kang Bae-dal-ggun (2017)
Comfort
At first I thought it was a bit cheesy, with the introductions, and typical over the top visuals and sounds. I almost didn't want to watch it, but I will have to thank Ko Kyung-Pyo for his strong performance as a male lead. I was captured by his acting as the earnest, hard working good boy he is. I could tell he was a character that held much more than what came with the initial image. I also enjoyed the story line I think in comparison, it was better than love alarm. Both shows hold extremely similar aspects. I enjoyed how the focus wasn't on a love triangle, but also each characters individual arc. The supporting cast has great screen time and interactions as well, I was so excited to see those familiar delivery boys whenever their faces showed up. I did want dong-soo and soon-ae to finally get together. They served as a parallel/ insight to what Dan-Ah and Kang Soo had brewing within their own relationship. I had hoped there would be more of a development there :/ overall this would be a comfort show for me it was light hearted, warm, affectionate, and held a story anyone could relate to. The cheesiness dies down to something tolerable and even funny. I'm happy I decided to watch this gem of two hard working stubborn individuals find love and family within their own community.
