What was Eli? Besides a vampire!
10 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I found this film while searching Netflix for vampire films, and was surprised by how well it was made. Given there are so many bad Vampire films out there. One thing I was curious about is several times in the film Eli tells Oscar "I'm not a girl". Then in the scene where she changes into the dress Oscar gives her we see a brief view as she pulls the dress over her head and there's no genitalia, just what appears to be a three way surgical incision that's been very crudely sutured closed. Having not read the book I don't know if there is an explanation for this. I was thinking maybe she was a Castrato. But this seams unlikely given this was usually a simple castration performed before puberty. Anyone care to elaborate?

Logans Run Remake! well sorta!
5 August 2005
This movie had way too many plot elements that mirrored Logans Run. The one's I caught are listed as follows. 1. A supposedly sealed post disaster civilization. 2. A main character who questions his environment. 3. The video game fight scene. ( if I'm not mistaken the female won in both films) 4. They find a way outside and explore the real world while being pursued by adversary's who are assigned to terminate them or bring them back. 5. They have a harrowing time surviving in the real world. 6. They decide to go back! They over come the system and everyone comes outside and is in awe of outside world.

This is a brief list there may be more similarity's

And some of you thought Donnie Darko was hard to understand the first time.
11 October 2004
First off i would like to commend everyone who was involved in the making of this film. To make a film for 7k is a remarkable feat.

As as science savvy person I was able to figure what was going on with out too much difficulty, this is certainly a film that makes you have to think about the story a lot more than your average film. All that said I have to say that I did find myself bored and wanting the film to end half way through. I can understand why some of you have said the film was overly vague and confusing and I wonder If the filmmaker had to add the voice over as an after thought to try to tie it all together. I think it would have been incomprehensible without it.

The Hours (2002)
I was never so glad to see someone fall out of a window!
18 January 2003
It's hard to know where to begin when describing this film, I found the acting, cinamatography, editing and art direction to be first rate with three really well built stories. But even this was not enough to make this a engrossing film for me, at no time did it manage to make me feel as if I had an emotional investment in any of the three interwoven stories, In fact I really could not wait for it to be over. I noticed more than a few people in the packed theator looking ant there watches to see how much more they had to endure before it was over. This movie starts out at a snails pace and it never recovers. I found myself wanting to yell out loud JUMP as Richard Harris climbs into the open window.

In conclusion this movie is aptly named THE HOUR'S, It feels like your in the theator for HOURS!

Wake me when its over! I haven't seen a doc this bad since i was forced to watch SHERMANS MARCH!
25 February 2002
I understand how important it is to tell this story, but nothing can make up for how boring the execution of this film is. At one point its a 45 min. head shot of the main character who is telling the story. The man constantly restates himself to the point where you the audience member find yourself wishing for a bullet in the head to stop the agony. You would think that with the large amount of film that was shot by the German army during the Third ritch that director Claude Lanzmann could have made this film more visually appealing and interesting than the boring monologue that we are left with.
