There is something about films made by debut directors who are skilled - they are mostly worth watching . Maybe it's the fact that the director thinks it might his/her only shot and hence strives to create something superior it might also be the fact that they are more raw and not after capturing the market they had with their initial success. Ulidavru kandanthe, Munnabhai and Death in the Goonj are few movies that come to mind of debut directors that fit this template . Whatever it is OMK lives up to that promise. Like Ulidavru here the lead is also the director which seems to make they go all in to deliver something spectacular.

I had watched the movie a few years back when it released and watched it again when Raj Shetty's new trailer brought back memories of OMK. The movie takes a great script about the challenges of a bald India man to find a bride in a small town of Mangalore and through some terrific acting and screenplay creates some memorable sequences.

There are many high points in the movie - the comedy scenes in the first half where the college peon stands out , the understated but brilliant acting by the entire cast , the references to Rajkumar timed perfectly and definitely the authenticity with which Mangalore (my hometown ) is shown. Though there a couple of low points like the episode with the girl selling hair growth that seems cliched those are few and don't diminish the movie.

Overall watch the movie for going against the grain to cast a non-traditional lead but more importantly I would recommend to watch it for terrific execution of a great script making it in my opinion one of the best Kannada movies made in recent times !

You remember a movie by what it makes you feel especially if it's of the romantic variety.

MS has many large plot holes and feels contrived more times than you can count. A lot of the conflict in the movie seems forced and the dialogue out of place with the setting. Add these issues to the fact that we have North Indian team creating a story based in Madurai in Hindi.

However, despite all of these issues the movie still leaves you with a feeling of having known the two lead characters and lived the ups and downs with them. The credit for this largely lies with the terrific acting by both the leads who manage to overcome the large issues listed above by truly embracing the characters they portray. Apart from the acting the music is pretty good with some interesting and weird video ideas.

Lastly, they nailed the ending and that's a big part of how you remember the movie !

Maybe the first Meryl Streep movie i watched and what a performance. The rest of the cast isnt bad (especially Stanley Tucci who nails most of his scenes) and the dialogue is mostly well written - however you should it watch for Meryl Streep's performance and her devlish but human take on a fictional fashion magnate.

The documentary captures the beauty of the ocean wonderfully. The central narrative is simple but strikes the right emotional chords. The narration is a surprising highlight of the documentary with not a word out of place. These combine to create a poignant story that will stay with one for a while.

There are many things that seem out of place in the movie - Emma's more nuanced personality not matching that of a straight A student in a teen comedy , one dimensional bible toting characters almost depicted as caricatures and a weird relationship between a mature teacher and student stand out. However Emma manages to fill these holes really well and you empathize to the tricky situations she finds herself in. The screenplay despite being constrained by the tropes of the genre is consistently entertaining and manages to integrate elements of the 'the scarlet letter' story really well. While you can fully shake the dissonance between the nuanced and slapstick elements of the movie it provides enough moments to remain more memorable than the run of mill teen comedy.
