Dawid i Elfy (2021)
A Rare Christmas Treasure
According to Wikipedia, Poland has only made a total of 4 Christmas films as of the time of writing: The Nutcracker (1967), Letters to Santa (1&2), and David and the Elves. It is clear that as a country, Poland has for the most part been very private with its Christmas traditions and lore, and I would like to start by saying thank you so much for opening yourselves up so that we of the rest of the world can have such a glimpse of your Holiday Season. The acting is well done and the fact that it has an English dubbed version on Netflix is even better. I especially loved the clever little references to other Christmas films, such as The Santa Clause with the beard scene. The cinematography was excellent, on par with other traditional films such as The Christmas Chronicles, however low-budget it may have been. The story is wonderful and heartwarming and an absolute joy to watch. Thank you, Poland, for sharing such a unique and charming Christmas tale with us. I would love a sequel.
Switched (2020)
Funny movie with good message
I absolutely love this movie. It has a powerful message of thinking of others. Sometimes I wish God would let other people spend a day in my shoes, as I have Asperger's Syndrome and really want people to understand what it's like to be me. I also have the desire to see many people get saved and would be up to any miracle to save them. The movie might not be as big as say a Kendrick Brothers film, but I am thoroughly enjoying it.
100% Wolf (2020)
A different werewolf film
Personally, I love the concept of werewolves, but I do not like the whole horror and violence behind them. If I could, I'd love to be a werewolf, but not a masochist. This film comes closest to what my ideal werewolves would be: noble superheroes fighting for a good cause with (mostly) clean, honorable mannerisms. (I did not appreciate the toilet humor. Be prepared.)
I think it's good to give us different werewolves, instead of dark, violent, gory ones. It is a particular niche that is lacking and works very well in this film, given the budget and the circumstances surrounding it. Sometimes, I think, there is too much unnecessary violence and fear put in stories, which sells, but leaves the audience with unnecessary, and sometimes fatal, emotional wounds, such as enticing them to be violent or fearful themselves.
A story ought not to give nightmares and lasting bad impressions (as many often do), but should inspire people to reach their potential. And we all have potential. We just sometimes need a bit of help to find it. That's what I like about this story.
Adventures of Rufus: The Fantastic Pet (2020)
Great for a low budget
I get that not everyone will like this movie. We are at a cultural divide. For those of us who still hold to traditional values for our families, this is a great movie. Then, there's those who like intense thrillers and blood and gore and promiscuity. For those of you, best ignore this one. It's a low budget fantasy film that pulls on the heart-strings. Too many good movies like this get swept under the rug as big corporations push for the movies THEY want you to see - movies of a more dark and sinister kind.
If you're like me and sick and tired of swamp-fest movies that rot the brain with anger, fear and hate, try this one.
