Brilliant flaws
Some moviegoers get a hardon when someone relatively known appears on screen and does nothing else but saying 'hi!'. In such a case the director does not have much to do.
Some directors have much more to do with less. Chris Rakotomamonjy obviously is one of them, he demonstrates he has guts in each of his movies.
And in this one, more than ever. He loves movies that are no longer made today, he wants to recreate those beloved pieces we once used to track down at the Blockbuster's.
It's so amusing to see this guy having so much fun and courage exactly when Guillermo del toro and wachowski bros miss their target and lose everything they believed in. CR is not necessarily the future but he's certainly a refreshing creator in this dry cinematic world.
His last movie has lots of flaws but maybe i should say 'floves,' the kind of flaws that smart and educated people love, the kind we can see in the original Evil Dead or in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow.
Some takes and shots reveal there is personality and thoughts behind. It's no Hitchcock for sure but it's certainly no traditional yesman. Thanking Jeff Nichols in the end credits? No surprise.
And thanking Bill Mantlo and Jim Shooter too? Can't wait for the next movie, man!
