The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Not that bad if you're into the Lord of the Rings universe
Coming from someone who despise streaming original shows of any kind, I actually enjoyed this and it serves as a nice craving for LotR fans.
If this series didn't have the LotR theme to it with it's fantasy, lore, score, orcs, elves, humans, settings, etc, I'm not so sure I'd be interested in it. It's not quite Peter Jackson's level of work with epic battle scenes, but it isn't too bad either. You'll get to see orcs, trolls, and creatures along the way here and there, or maybe there could be more along the way as I've only watched the first two episodes.
I'll probably update this review after finishing the first season.
Bajo cero (2021)
I don't know if i'll ever like a netflix original
Streaming budget movies i don't like, meh on this. Needs more cinema level budget
Tenet (2020)
I like Nolan's work but this ain't it
In short, this movie is overly complicated, especially with the dialogue and plot.
I feel so bad for the people who got to see this in theaters as there's no way to pause and rewind.
I just didn't even bother anymore as the movie progressed and decided to watch it only for the action scenes.
Tenet had potential Nolan, nice try sorry.
Nomadland (2020)
I really wanted to like this movie
It's a very slow paced movie. There are countless scenes in which I thought were dragged out for too long and should've been edited out. I actually took my eyes off the screen and started checking my phone at times -- that's not a very good sign!
I don't think there was a real purpose or end goal to Nomadland other than showing us a person going from one dead-end job to the next.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
I thought the first one was trash
But this one is like taking that trash and rinsing it with sewer water while having someone's feces shot on your face. Biggest waste of time.
Detachment (2011)
I haven't watched a good movie in a long time
Where do I start...
One of the best movies ever.
Such a magnificent film from start to finish.
Wander (2020)
Mixed feelings about this one
Without giving away the plot, the last third of the movie becomes very confusing, and is in my opinion, what shot itself in the foot. By the end, you'll either think to yourself, 'what did I just watch?' or you might try to make sense of it all.
Almost everything in this movie seems to be on point in terms of the quality, cast and production. Had they just ended it normally like any other decent mystery/thriller, it probably would've been a good movie.
Dark Waters (2019)
Oscar worthy
This is a real contender to win Best Picture. Seriously, I'd be a little surprised if it didn't get nominated.
Think of everything that's consumed in our lives, and that money controls a lot of things. The director Todd Haynes, does an excellent job of portraying this.
Dark Waters is a must watch. Every gripping second of the 2 hours is amazing. Mark Ruffalo is the perfect lead for this movie.
Skylines (2020)
Suck
I don't know what else to say tbh. Maybe if they didn't make the aliens look like rock em sock em robots, I might have given them 2 more stars.
#Saraitda (2020)
I can't stand dumb protagonists
Movies where the main character is a moron should be illegal and against the law.
La isla mínima (2014)
Excellent foreign mystery flick
This movie will make you wonder about all the criminals that's gotten away with sexual exploitation.
It's really a must see. Was really well made.
Busanhaeng 2: Bando (2020)
Good but not great
Watch if you like zombie movies. Post apocalyptic + vehicles + zombies
Togo (2019)
Very boring
I stopped watching because it's very boring. Maybe it's meant for kids or for tear jerking movie lovers, but still... I stopped watching. What a snore fest
The Vigil (2019)
I learned what a shomer is
Sorry about the title, I'm not familiar with Jewish culture and religion.
As for the movie, I thought it was mostly enjoyable, but the reason for the 5 stars is because there isn't enough scares throughout the movie to call it a good horror flick.
Chang-gwol (2018)
Dragged out for too long
The beginning was good and gave me a sense that the zombie genre, set in the Asian dynasty era, would be epic, however the movie felt like it was dragged out for too long with a lot of talking throughout. They should've edited out some scenes in order to keep it flowing consistently. 90-100 minutes would've been the perfect length.
Spell (2020)
Not what I expected, could've been better
The beginning was good, maybe like the first 10-15 minutes'ish. It was on the right path and kept me engaged as I was hooked on the premise of the potential story. I thought I'd be seeing some creepy human/creature hybrid crawling around with hyper extended legs or something, but nope nothing like that at all.
I also couldn't help but notice the lack of diversity with the cast. I think it would've been creepier had Eiloise (Loretta Devine) been replaced with an old creepy caucasian lady instead (similar to the one in Legion).
The theme of this movie is very similar to Us or Get Out, but lacks in a ton of areas compared to them, consider this a poor man's version of those films.
Spell is a watchable flick but that's it, it has it's moments, but it won't keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
