Miracle (2004)
Great emotional movie with few complaints, 7 out of 10.
30 January 2004
I thought this movie was very emotional, great historical recap of the entire period from Day 1 to the Medal ceremony focusing on the struggles of Herb Brooks and bringing together one team to be a family and play a new form of hockey never attempted to defeat the Soviet Union, unbeaten in 20 years by the USA and constantly defeating the NHL All Stars. They use actual footage of 70's Cold War events and weave together the Al Michaels 1980 call of the Soviet Union game into the on ice action. The only complaint is the lack of emphasis on the Finland championship game, which was equally important to Herb Brooks who was cut shortly before the 1960 Olympics and never won the Gold before.

Tragically Scary

This movie isn't funny. The stupid humor that worked in Dumb and Dumber was not the least bit hilarious in this film. His character frightened me with each scene more, and not once did I laugh.

Hilariously Stupid
18 July 2001
Everyone knows someone who is considered a snob for the lack of an appropriate word. This movie is the life of one of these rich LA snobs who learns at Harvard she stands out a lot. The stark contrast in her LA style and outlook versus the academia of Harvard and much of its law students draws much of the laughter. Going in I thought it would be a stupid movie that wasn't funny, like my opinion of the Cable Guy. I came out laughing my head off about how ridiculously funny it is. I rank it a 7.5

Interesting Story with Unexpected Twists
17 July 2001
The best part, and I've read this before and concur, is the unification of three great generations of actors. Marlon Brando takes in the typical head guy who sets up everything role, and the Brando voice alone keeps fans attune. Robert DeNiro plays his common role also, the man who is not only very smart, but has contacts everywhere and never gets fooled. Edward Norton plays the new up and coming criminal who is easily fools others by thinking they have the upper hand when he is always in control. Therefore when Brando sets up the two to pull off a robbery that will cash them in millions, the two worlds collide. De Niro's cunning experience vs. Norton's deceiving personality. One is on his way out, while the other is on his way up. Neither truly trust the other but both realize they have to trust one another to successfully pull off the heist. This story, full of twists and turns, leaves you satisfied when you leave the theater.

My tagline for this movie would be: You think you know what will happen when two totally different criminals try and team up to pull off the biggest heist ever? Well you don't know jack!

I rank this an 8 out of 10

Emotional but Tedious
1 July 2001
The positive is that Osment artfully demonstrates an emotional character that keeps people in their seats. Unfortunatly, that's about it for the positives.

The movie is quite long (between 2 and 2.5 hours) and is quite tedious. While some scenes are interesting, the plot is very choppy as is the dialogue. It seems that segments were portioned together that have small links to one another. I counted at least three spots from an hour until the end where the story could have been brought to an end but wasn't.

Unfortunately also the producers and directors confuse the unprepared movie watcher by constantly tweaking with the story direction and the earth year. There is never any smooth transition between parts of the story, whether it be explicit or implicit.

Finally the end is completely unneccessary. Not only does A.I. start in the future, but ends up nearly 2000 years after the futuristic starting point. The creatures in the end were oddly shaped and had little to do with the story whatsoever. However, that's how this movie is characterized. There are lots of characters and scenes that have little to do with the main story and are disconnected to other parts.

If you are prepared for a mental challenge, go see it...if you are going for entertainment, I recommend against it.
