Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
I have already blanked this one out of my mind....
I have already pretty much blanked this movie out of my mind. I do remember a little bit of it still, before I walked out. I've never done that before, by the way, and I like many different types of movies. What I do remember is that I couldn't really care less whether Kate Winslett's and Jim Carey's characters stayed with each other or not. I don't really recall any big love forming between them before the first time she went to have him erased from her memory. I didn't find the "memory-erasing" idea fascinating at all. I went with another person, and we both hated it, but we have decided that since so many people seem to like it, we will probably check it out when it is available for rental and try to make it through to the end. Maybe something happened after that awful first hour that will make us change our minds. Somehow, I don't think so, but I usually love Jim Carey's movies, so I will try to keep an open mind.
Along Came Polly (2004)
A very funny movie!
I am surprised at the comments that I have read so far that suggest this is a boring or mediocre movie. All that I know is that I am a 46 year old married mother, and I just spent 90 minutes laughing out loud (too loud sometimes) and smiling. I can imagine that if you are easily offended by fart ( or "shart") jokes or the shiny hiney's of Ben Stiller or Hank Azaria, you may not like this movie. But really, then, why would you go in the first place? I was definitely not bored. The characters were all so much fun- the kind of creepy boss, the obnoxious but extremely lovable best friend, the risk expert who finds something to worry about in any situation, the goofy, scatterbrained ferret- owning waitress/creepy children's book author, the australian who likes to free fall off of tall buildings, the priceless scuba instructor, and the very cute salsa dancer. Anyway, I loved it , and I'll probably even go see it again.
What a Girl Wants (2003)
A wonderful, "feel-good", funny movie with great acting...
I will have to admit that I went to see this movie just to see Colin Firth! After seeing Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones, Fever Pitch, and The Importance of Being Earnest, I was just waiting for this one to come out. Well, as it turned out, I loved everything about the movie and thought all of the actors in it were great! I had not seen Amanda Bynes on Nickelodeon, and I was impressed with her as well as with the cute, young singer, Oliver James. But really, you just can't go wrong with Colin Firth. His facial expressions and his eyes are amazing! My mom and I both loved it, and I plan to go back to see it with my teenage daughter. It is a wonderful romantic comedy! Go see it!
Signs (2002)
Don't drink a large Coke before this movie......
I made the mistake of drinking a large Coke before this movie, and had to "hold it in" for the whole 107 minutes because I didn't want to miss a thing. Really, I think you can tell by the general public's rating (over 8 so far) that most everyone agreed with me. This movie was great! It was intense and scary, but also had quite a few humorous moments. I even had my eyes tear up a bit in one part, so what more could you ask for! As I scanned through some of the comments written by other viewers, I noticed alot of criticism of the movie. I quit reading after just a few and decided to write my own, since I represent the majority of viewers who loved it. It was a great story- it went way beyond being just a little spooky story about aliens and crop circles. It had great dialogue and lots of little "signs" throughout the movie that all added up in the end, leaving you with that "Wow" feeling. Of course the acting was great- look at who is in it! If you are a normal person who enjoys good movies, you will most probably like this one a lot!
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Wow!
This was an amazing movie and Russell Crowe was outstanding! I went to see this film expecting to see a sad, miserable story about a genius suffering from schizophrenia. The film took me completely by surprise with its wonderful story and beautiful acting by all of the characters. Wow!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
A night we will always remember!
Our family first experienced Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by listening to the book on tape on vacation, and we have loved it ever since. It is the first "chapter book" that my seven year old little boy has wanted to read, and now he is reading Chamber of Secrets. My 15 year old daughter and my little boy and I finally got to see the movie last night on opening night! We have been counting the days, and even had my mother camp out to buy tickets during the day while I was at work (she went to the movie with us also). It was everything we hoped for and more! We all loved it and thought all of the actors were great. The movie was magical, fun, exciting, funny, imaginative, and I can't imagine anyone not liking it. We will always remember this magical night!
