It's dumb but fun
31 December 2021
This is a simple movie; it's not trying to be deep, meaningful, emotional, and it certainly isn't any of those. However, if you go in with right mindset, knowing it's just a dumb action movie you should be sufficiently entertained. I definitely was - Eddie Brock's bromance with Venom is great and they even break up somewhere in the middle. The action scenes are decent and I found the film consistently funny, for the intentional and unintentional comedy.

Best superhero movie ever made
22 October 2021
Not just my favorite superhero movie, but one of my favorite movies period. I find Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker very relatable (not so much in the third one) but in this one you feel his pain, struggles, and why he decides to "quit" being Spiderman. Alfred Molina's Doc Ock is a three dimensional sympathetic villain. The plot is simple which is ideal for this type of story. Oh, and JK Simmons. J. Jonah Jameson will forever go down as one of the best side characters in film history.

The praise for it is well deserved
22 October 2021
There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said about The Dark Knight, and you already know why it's praised: Heath Ledger, the script, the characters, gritty realism, etc. What isn't often mentioned is Michael Caine - a great potrayal of Alfred.

Still just as great as an adult
22 October 2021
Probably the movie I have seen the most and one I have liked ever since I saw it as a kid. It's no secret that pixar makes great movies - this is my personal favorite. I like how it is very accessible for adults as well as kids - it never dumbs down the audience and is a very well made film (acting, script, characters, and more) that just happens to be animated.

Watching this in theaters is incomparable
22 October 2021
Maybe not the best mcu movie, but the one I find the most satisfying. Watching this in theaters for the first time was truly an experience. This is essentially 3 separate movies- a post apocalyptic drama (act 1), a time heist (act 2), and an epic (act 3). It may not hold up as well on rewatch, but there is nothing like watching this movie for the first time.

A very engaging film from start to finish
22 October 2021
Most people have not heard of this underrated gem. It's about three teenagers who get telekinesis due to a strange glowing rock, but one of them starts to go down a dark path. What makes this movie great is the simple but unique plot, the relatable characters and the dark tone that is unlike most in the genre.

Pleasantville (1998)

Cool plot, wanted more.
16 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of this film is unique; two 90s teens get stuck in a 50s sitcom. I'm fond of Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon and I believe this is some of their better work. This movie has good acting, characters, and story.

However, they are a few problems with it. The fantasy world of pleasantville doesn't establish clear rules. There were some scenes I wanted to see; such as Maguire's character telling his tv parents where he's really from. It's hinted at, but glossed over quickly. I also wanted to see what the new Pleasantville looked like from the 90s perspective. Was it always in color? Did Reese Witherspoon never exist to her parents in the changed timeline? These unanswered questions don't detract from an otherwise solid watch.

Improved after rewatch
3 February 2021
This first time I saw this film I went expecting something else, and for some reason I found it to be too long and self indulgent. After rewatch, however, I enjoyed the movie a lot more. The characters are well developed and likable. The scenes I thought were unnecessary turned out to be charming the second time. And the soundtrack is brilliant. A solid, entertaining crime comedy.

Awesome Short Film
27 January 2021
This is my favorite short film I've seen in recent times. The concept is unique and the plot movies quickly. The main character is also believable- I might have done the same.

Rocky (1976)

I don't like sports movies
18 November 2020
This is one of the few sports movies I actually like. One reason would be because of the likable characters; Rocky, as the main hero has both funny, unique lines and an endearing personality. His girlfriend Adriane, although very quiet, has a certain charm to her.

There is also not a lot of actual sports in this film; there is the fight at the beginning and at the end. The fights themselves I found more engaging than others in the same genre. The story and dialogue are easy to follow which makes up for the sometimes slow pacing. I feel the story could have been told in an hour and a half, and it is predictable, but at the end of the day I finished the movie feeling satisfied.

The Fugitive (1993)

My Favorite Movie of All Time
10 November 2020
Right from the get go The Fugitive is a perfectly paced exercise in tension with fantastic characters. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones are both giving great performances. I am stickler with my 10 ratings, and I rarely hand that out. I have yet to find a film I can remember being this exciting. The end could seem to drag a little long, and you do have to suspend your disbelief somewhat, but I just don't care. A perfect movie.

Enola Holmes (2020)
5/10
An ok film, but all over the place.
4 October 2020
I ended this movie feeling unsatisfied. Here are a few things I noticed. Pros:
  • In my opinion, the production design was the best part of the movie and the 18th century London look was great. Everything looks good.
  • The A-list cast
  • Some of the action sequences were well shot
Cons:
  • The plot is all over the place. It starts as a mystery to find the mother, then rebelling against the stereotypical jerk brother, than romance with some boy and a dude trying to kill them.
  • Annoying feminism messages thrown in your face the entire movie
  • Enola doesn't have a clear motivation, thanks to the muddled plot
  • The ending is not climactic and the missing mother subplot is resolved in the most boring way
  • The film overstays it's welcome, runtime is too long
