Walk the Line (2005)
a boring deja-vue
I really don't want to hurt no one. It seems, I'm the only one who didn't enjoy this movie at all. I did enjoy many musician bio-pics, but this one was boring in every aspect: The story is a deja-vue (Bird, Ray ...), the old country music and the movie was just not directed intensely, emotional or interesting. The pace was slooow, the story was sloow, the music was slower and I didn't see any romance (just a guy insisting and a woman giving in after all). This was a major disappointment. Maybe it's not the movie, maybe it's Johnny Cash himself that was so boring? And no, I don't think it's the cultural difference, since I enjoyed so many other similar American movies.
The Interpreter (2005)
Breathtaking sensitive
At this time, there's no need to tell the plot again. Just let me mention the absolute breathtaking performance of Mrs. Kidman and Mr. Penn. My heart stood still they settled on the couch and it did again in the final scene - the movie made my cry and hope, shiver and smile and it's one of the few old fashioned movies that tell a complicated story straight and keep the audience attentive all the time. If it's a thriller, it's a good one, if it's a love story, it's an extraordinary one, and in the end it's just a story about loosing and finding love, the love between people, not only the love between a man and a women. Mr. Pollack did a great job - we deserve at least one movie of this class every year.
Get Carter (2000)
A simple story very well told
I can't believe the critics this movie gets here. I hated Stallone as Rambo, as Rocky and I love him in this role. And even if you have seen the 1971 original, not everyone can remember all the details - at least I couldn't. (I think there is just about two or three movies about Jesus, and nobody cares about the remakes). Stallone is out to take vengance on the murderers of his brother, a decent barman working to support his family. The story takes place in seattle, and as you can imagine, there are a couple of shootings, car chases and so on. But that's not the movie. The movie is the fight from a bad guy against the bad guys to get justice for someone who didn't do anything wrong. The movie has an extraordinary visual quality, the titles and the music are worth seeing and hearing this movie. And one very seldom quality at the end: This movie is not to long. Get Carter! 7 of 10!
Hart's War (2002)
At the End, you hate the movie
Good Film, good acting, even the story was interesting. I liked that it had its turn in using clichees and not proving them right all the time. As a european it's strange to see movies nowadays that end like this. The last Castle and Windtalkers just ended the same way - and being born after WWII the last 60 seconds of all these movies remind me of war propaganda - are these commercials for volounteering for Irak?
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Yes: Attack of the cloned movies
Three thoughts.
Isn't it strange that the sequel #4 is copying everything but Star Wars? This movie is partially copying: The lord of the rings, Monsters Inc., Gladiator, Total Recall, Chackie Chan-Movies ... and many more. But you can definitely say it didn't copy any of the Star Wars series.
When I saw a movie I ask myself: Did I have fun? Did it make me laugh? Was I excited? Did I cry or feel petty for anyone? Did I like the female actress? Was the male actor ok? How were the supporting roles? Was I impressed by the story, the effects, the music, the locations, the dialogues or at least by the money spent? You're guessing right: No, No, No.......
I have seen every Star wars Movie at the Theatre the year they came out - yes, I'm that old. This flick should be a great sample for film students and professors should tell them to make a decent movie just by cutting it and adding new music. OK, the movie would be 45 minutes only, but it can be done, I'm sure.
Verdict: Don't even copy this movie, George Lucas already did by making it.
Any Given Sunday (1999)
Boring
Any Given Sunday is a movie about a man getting older. It takes Oliver Stone an excellent cast, a great cameraman and a giant crew of excellent people to make a senseless, boring film that is definitely one hour to long - and considering the script even two hours to long. A waste of time, talent and money if you're not excited by american football.
Space Cowboys (2000)
Boring, predictable, too long and bad casting
I can't believe the rating this movie gets. It is by far the worst I've seen by and with Clint Eastwood. The movie is definitely 30 minutes too long, the funny parts are very predictable as well as the whole story. James Garner has not only become old as a face, but also as an actor. The leading female role is awful, she is so embarrassing (or is she realy playing the typical american woman?). The story is something between Armageddon and Apollo 13, but both of them are much better. 2 out of 10 is what this movie gets from me.
The Art of War (2000)
Hey, what did you expect? The Movie is worth every second.
I'm really surprised by the bad comments this movie gets. I'm not a particular action fan, but this movie was better then expected. I don't think I need to tell the story again. I liked the plot and it made sense, at least it is more intelligent then most of the so called action movies, and especially Blade and other stupid flicks. Snipes does a good job although I admit his abilities to jump and safely land on the ground is not very credible. Anne Archer plays superbly and her role gives her the surprising chance of being somebody completely different we all thought she'd be. Even Donald Sutherland doesn't spoil the movie! Who's going to blame the Director to give his beautiful wife Lilina Komorowska a supporting role? She does a great job and I wished I could see more of her. The movie has artistic parts, a reasonable plot, is entertaining, good camera guidance and is - bottom line - worth watching.
