USS Seaviper (2012)
Did They do Any Research At All?
This movie was an example of how to ruin a good idea with poor attention to the details of the story. This is supposed to be a WWII submarine flick. No sub captain would have been on the surface in daylight anywhere near a Japanese island. The way the periscope went up and down during a submerged attack would have gotten a sub killed.
Going ashore on an enemy island in daylight? No. Unguarded POWs? No. This movie approaches Plan 9 from Outer Space for it's lack of continuity.
Using a C47 for Recon? Are you serious?
"President Roosevelt directly gave me an order" No, he didn't, the admiral did. Did the director and producer actually watch this film when they finished it? To the bilge with you!
Spoils of War (2009)
Bad Bad Script.
Even with limited funds, this movie could have been much better. Whoever wrote the story could have at least tried to make it seem to make sense.
Example: Germans searching for the heroes everywhere and yet the heroes decide to go back to the bunker to pick up counterfeit cash. They still decide to go one after blowing a machine gun nest, alerting anyone within earshot.
It's supposed to be 1944, both sides used silencers when needed. Here everyone uses non-suppressed weapons and pretends that the Germans won't hear them. Just Dumb
Allowing a prisoner to have hands free? Seriously?
Jet Attack (1958)
Every Cliche in a War film, Poorly Done
This movie could have been done a lot better if someone had actually paid attention to the rather obvious details.
The heroes are dropped into North Korea, from there we see the Russians using US jeeps, and "woodies" as vehicles. The "Migs" are obviously F-86's. A rescue helicopter is allowed to land without air cover(?) something that never would have been done for real.
Cheaply made, supposedly Korean war, WWII stock films used. Example a F-86 shoots down a Mitsubishi A5 during the rescue.
Sekretnoe oruzhie (2019)
Terrible Script
This could have been better, much better. The Secret Weapon prop was laughable. If the truck was drivable, the Germans would have driven it. The actions of the Russian soldiers did not make sense. The actions of the Germans even less so. The whole point of the movie seemed to be that the Russian heroes would all die pointless, suicidal deaths.
Debris (2021)
Should Have Been Renewed
Debris was a series that presented a science fiction narrative about a unique threat / problem. There were sparse personal stories, perhaps not enough. The focus was on the problems that the debris created and the attempts to control it.
For me this was a series that required investment of time and thought. There were certainly enough questions raised in the final episode that I wish could have been answered in season tow.
Gumshoe (1971)
Practically Incomprehensible!
The characters that inhabit this film simply appear to be "mailing it in" We don't care about them, none are presented in an appealing way. It's difficult to comprehend what the plot is. Individual scenes are sometimes OK, but the film just does not hold together very well.
El Dorado (1966)
Enjoyable Watch, Mitchum, Wayne, Caan are all good
I watched this recently. The pace of the film moves the story along. Many familiar actors from this era of Hollywood film. Mitchum's character was one I appreciated. along with Wayne who plays (for him) against type as a gun for hire-albeit one with scruples.
The Lost World (1998)
Were the Writers of the Script Actually Paid?
This movie was nonsense. There are so many suspend belief and logic moments that I just started to laugh. How in the world did the actors put up with this script?
Where they trying tell a story or just put something on film? Just bad. Make sure you don't watch too soon after eating.
Captain Scarlett (1952)
Predictable, Not for Adults
This is a film best viewed on Saturday mornings, right after the cartoons. It works best as a comedy for children.
Follows similar themes in other movies.
The acting is not convincing, it appears the actors are just doing it for laughs.
Captains Courageous (1996)
Good Telling of Story. End could have been done better.
The film does a good job of telling the story of Harvey, the disagreeable, spoiled brat who has no concern for anyone else. Harvey has to deal with real life as lived by fishermen in 1934.
Dan, the captain's son is well played as the only one who initially gives Harvey any friendship.
Harvey has to learn hard work, earning his food and even his bunk.
The only problem I had was with the very end of the movie. It was too much of a cliché as Harvey says good-bye to everyone.
Greyhound Attack (2019)
Film School if Kindergarten did film!
Who thought that this dreck was watchable? The "aircraft" are clearly RC models as they perform in a way the real ones never could. The scenes with the P-51, show a pilot in a framed cockpit. The P51-D( November 1944) had a clear canopy. The oxygen masks of the B-17 crew were all wrong.
A B-17 crew would not have seen a V2 rocket launch. The rockets were not even close to being V2's These are minor details compared to the wooden, amateur acting.
The CGI was terrible. It would have been better to show stock color footage of WW II aircraft.
Terrible execution of the plot.
