We're Here (2020)
Total Sunshine During a Dark Time
Really sad that there has only one episode left. This great show has really helped me cope during the shutdown. I sure hope they make more when it is safe to do so. Can't wait for the dvd to come out so I can share with friends that don't have HBO.

Cult Masterpiece
Don't miss this Indy cult gem. It's like Hitchcock at his most blackly humorous crossed with Run Lola Run. In regards to the humor, I kept thinking of the finger snapping scene from Hitchcock's Frenzy.I don't buy the Memento comparisons. Superior writing/directing and especially editing. Once again Hillary Swank slams another home run with a brief, but memorable character. Shawn Hatosy impressed me as well, having no memory of seeing him before. A slightly gruesome jigsaw puzzle of fun. I was giddy with delight when it played out. What a great time. Shame on the studios for not giving this one a chance. The DVD is due out shortly, but try to catch it on the screen.
Haute tension (2003)
Yikes...what fun
A soon to be classic in the genre. Forget High....it's EXTREME. Others have mentioned all the cliches....Well I agree except the director has perfected them. Classic 42nd ST. grind updated to current production values. Extremely well made in every way. You will never see this one on TV folks. Not for the gore sensitive.
The Gatekeeper (2002)
should be seen
Ok, this is not a great film. It was shot on digital video in 18 days, with a budget of 200,000. However I scored this a 9, because it has more heart and passion than anything Hollywood has put out lately. It should be seen by everyone, especially if you live in a border state. It starts off with some truly awkward racist remarks that will make you squirm. Honestly, I was at first turned off and considered leaving. But stick with it, because after about 15 minutes you will be hooked. Low budget be damned. The director actor star should be applauded and rewarded for bringing this labor of compassion to the screen. It is an important issue, and my eyes were opened.
The Human Stain (2003)
a total waste
The Worst Film of the year so far. An embarrassment for all involved. There is not one single moment to commend ( at least in the first hour which is all I lasted). What a waste of such a top notch talent pool. Sorry, but better luck next time.
Camp (2003)
Theater nerds rejoice!
Wow. OK, It's amateurish, low budget, hokey and corny as all h***. I mean you will groan at how bad it is when it first starts. But within minutes you will be hooked. I loved this movie. It is sidesplittingly funny. My friend had to hold me down I was laughing so hard at one part. It also has a lot of heart. I teared up twice. This is a MUST for theater queens, and any adults who were into their high school musical theater productions. It will also be inspirational to any gay teens out there. I wish I had this film when I was a kid. However....if you were a high school jock.....you probably won't like this film. I can see it being torture for those with no interest in musical theater.
No Easy Way (1996)
Wonderful surprise
What appears to be a low budget disease of the week film has much more to offer. I loved this film. Ever since HBO's The Corner, I have been fascinated with Khandi Alexander. She is a brave and unique actress. Never the same. Sometimes normal and beautiful, sometimes really scary and on the edge. And in this film, quite funny at times. Unfortunately, she seems wasted in the current TV show CSI Miami. I was excited to find this film which I had not heard of by accident. Because of Khandi I bought the thing immediately. The characters are fresh and interesting, enhanced by great performances. Yes it is a 4 hanky disease of the week film, empowered by an unforgettable, totally unpredictable ending. Bravo for originality in a stale genre. A buried treasure.
