Vienna Blood (2019)
Sherlock holmes Viena
Just saw part 1 episod 1 and i am very happy with my choice. Is actually sherlock holmes under a different name. The reality presented is very raw, like one would imagine in 1906. The scenes are pretty graphical, you will have a naked woman standing on the autopsy table, and people "caught in the naughty act" because in 1906 you had 2 kind of people : the ones who were wealthy and very pudic as their image had to be maintained and the very poor ones who didn't have to much shame in displaying there emotions. Definitely not to see by an audience smaller then 16 but it is definitely a whodunit exceptionally made by the brits. It is the time when psychology and profiling make their way into the investigating process and when still brutality was still the main thing into getting a confession.
If you love murder mystery you are in for a treat.
Death on the Nile (2022)
The mustache mystery
So once again I was pleasantly surprised by the hercule poirot movie. You might not understand the subject, but watch the first 20 minutes and you will see it. So the first part murder in the orient express and death on nile are equally good and i would give them a 6.5 minimum. Maybe not a 7 because they are a bit gloomy and I'm used with the poirot from the 80s which was more relaxed even with a tent of funny. Well remove the funny from these ecranisations and keep a good mistery and the plot twists. I should say the possibly the ending of the orient express left me a bit more surprised than the death on nile but still the twists and turns are definitely there.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Producer ridley scott
So, when i first saw 6.5 i was a bit unsure but trust me, if you are a poirot fan you'll enjoy it. I love the main actor he's doing a great job. Really the ending left me with a dropped jaw, i didn't see it coming at all. When you say this about a movie it means you need to see it cos its good. So basically this is the first movie seen on 2024 and what can i say I'm a poirot fan and this did not disappoint in any way. There very good actors playing and twist and turns as you would expect.
The reason why i added this subject is to emphasize that a movie being made by r. Scott has to be worth watching so ignore the bad reviews.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Don't judge after the bad reviews
Oooky so i don't understand why so much bad reviews. So it's a mix of star wars and suicide squad. It's true that the green screen is not as high quality as the Mandalorian, clearly there is no comparison, but still... The alien creatures who show are really well done and ships and the battles are really oky. I must say there was plot twist that left me... say whaaaat. So i definitely did not get bored and i can't wait to see the second part. Basically in the first part you get to know the characters, a little bit of their stories and you have a background of the story. My boyfriend mentioned they tend to overdo it with the slow motion for dramatic effect but i wasn't bothered by it. The main character really does a good job in portraying her story and reason to fight. Definitely deserves more than 5 this movie. Don't compare it with star wars or other classicals, just take it as it is, a sci fi fantasy rebellion maybe in a universe parallel from star wars.
See How They Run (2022)
Whodunit?? I found it really cute
So i was reluctant a bit to see the movie as i saw 6.5 on imdb but it actually deserves more. In a nutshell is a hercule poirot movie but more easy to follow. The actors are great together and Saoirse Ronan is super cute and funny in the movie. If you love the Poirot series or Ms. Marple you're definitely going to enjoy this one. A murder happens and the inspector along with the constable must learn to trust each other and work together. Wilk this happen? Well watch the movie and you'll know it. It also has a speck of comedy and you'll get to see another side of Agatha Christe which will leave you a bit surprised. Give it a chance!
Violent Night (2022)
Ho ho ho bloody merry Christmas
So get ready to be dazzled and amazed cos you will see a very different santa claus. Somebody here said for age appropriately kids and I think this sums it up very well. Do not let kids smaller then 16 watch it. So imagine die hard combined with a bloody home alone and add some, and then you will have this.
A family is held hostage i would say a very disfunctional family but this cannot happen on Santa's shift and so it starts
Fully packed with action still has a comic allure and embraces the Christmas spirit, family, togetherness, belief, child's innocence who can heal a broken adult soul.
Give it a chance but be ready for a very gore Christmas movie.
Haunted Mansion (2023)
That's what I'm talking about
So i definitely recommend this movie for the whole family. It has a little of everything, makes you laugh, startles you even though you should know that something will come up, mistery and adventure. We have a mum and a son who's relocating and have their life change forever. Strangers become friends, souls are healed and new chances are given. I saw this movie very close to Christmas but i recommend it for Halloween cos it more suited.
But yeah Disney this is what you should be making, warm family movies and not trying to push specific messaged that made the Disney magic dissappear. The actors are amazing and gave depth to this movie.
Shetland (2013)
Good murder mistery to be unraveled
So i just finished Death in Paradise, the season for this year and I'm still crying over it. So, in search of some therapeutical remedy i have found Shetland. The series its not so funny as Death in paradise however give it a chance and go through the first 2 episodes. You will see that the affection starts to grow for the main characters, Perez and Tosh. Perez is the detective and basically solves the mysteries and Tosh is the asistent, she's like a daughter or nice, he's very protective of her. The DI is very heart warming and he shows emotion every time he interacts with others, a good good man. Unlike Death in paradise solving of the murder is much more slow paced, but yet again it has more time for building the story and creating a more elaborate scenario. You really must keep your eyes on the tv because you can lose something important. Keeps you really engaged. Awesome i like it.
The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
Witty and fun for all family
So this is the kind of animation i would like to see mlre often. The dialogs are with short sentences, extremely witty, like everything they say makes you smile. It is that kind of animation that you want to see 2 or 3 times.
Let's say you are not a lego fan, still give it a chance you'll not regret it. The kids will enjoy the cartoon however the dialogue is more entertaining for the grown-upa.
I don't understand why they don't make these type of animations, they should continue with the lego series but still probably the magic would fade away if they make episod after episod.
I would recommend even to search how they realized this movie only with lego toys, for sure it's captivating.
His Dark Materials (2019)
I would watch it again
This is the kind of series that cries for more than 3 seasons, and I say this because it was amazing. It takes you through all the emotions, you get emotional, you get upset, you are excited to see what's next.
You can see how the characters evolve, they are not the same in season 2 as they were in season 1 so this is great to say.
You can also see how a great friendship builds. The show does not fail to keep you on your toe each episod, so don't lose any because every single one has its own surprises.
I am so tempted to watch it again but as I know what will happen the surprise won't be the same but still its a great great show.
Black Adam (2022)
Action packed and the promise of a new type of hero
So, i just saw the movie and i thought the special affects were really really good and Dwayne Johnson makes a good super hero, he really nailed it. I mean don't start watching the movie and start comparing with the Marvel heroes, remember this is a different universe so you should just enjoy the story and take it as it is, a super hero movie for all family to see.
I would definitely see it once again and truly hope there is a second part in the making. I can say it also had some twists i didn't see coming which pleasantly surprised me. This film is the Rock :) Pierce Brosnan character reminded me of Doctor Strange but in the same time not being a carbon copy of him. Watch the movie it's worth it!
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021)
Good action / karate / fantasy movie
So for a movie seen at home on hbo its definitely worth it. Not for the picky movie critics, just for those who enjoy a packed action family movie. I have to admit that there is a twist in the movie that really got me surprised. The special affects are more for television and clearly not for cinema. However, the car chasing, the fight scenes, the flying fighters reminding you of matrix i kinda say, very well done. The story it's your typical "revenge will not bring anything good" but still that won't stop anyone to move forward until they hit a brick wall and realize.... "hey, maybe that wasn't a great idea". To summarize in my opinion it's a 6 stars movie and i will definitely watch a second part if they make one. Give it a chance but take it as it comes, just a family adventure movie.
Skyscraper (2018)
Yippee-ki-yay - Duck tape
Before watching the movie i read some reviews and I was ultimately convinced to see the movie after a user said that not all movies must be Oscar material or epic productions, some movies can just offer a good fine entertainment for all family to watch , enjoyable and funny not necessarily looking for some great awards.
This is very true. The movie is a combination between Total recall when we see the futuristic building and also the infernal fire that gets lose and between Die Hard (like an another user said). So we have the 2018 effects and the good old fashioned good guy that kicks serious...well you know. It is a action move to see with all family and i quite loved it. Dwayne Johnson is the Chuck Norris of the more modern action movies. :) I gave a 7++ .
Venom (2018)
The Hulk from outer space
While watching the movie I just thought, oky, instead of a green guy habiting a dude we have a rather pitch black thing inside this dude. That pitch black dude inside the other dude is as funny and as nice as Hulk proves sometimes that he is, part of that unusual kindness coming from the host who takes a rather big influence on the alien. So venom, against what you might expect , as Spider Man might have left the idea, is rather a good (as good as a man eating alien can be ) some(thing)one trying to save what initially came to destroy.
The leading actor is awesome in the role and I really grow to like Venom, is funny and witty as Iron man but not as gentle as Hulk though but still he tries to be better.
I highly recommend the movie.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Expectations not met
I heard about this movie that is great, one of the best SF pictures, one of the viewers said it is not so good however got chritised by another that it is not a movie were rambo shots like crazy and kills the bad guys, that it is at a much higher level....Well..... It is another lever but still I got pretty bored during almost 3 hours while at Rambo there is a bigger quantity of suspense and action at least.
When I saw Harrison Ford was in the movie even greater reason to watch because indiana Jones was running in my head and the expectations were even higher, but the down side is that Indiana Jones only appears after 2 hours of boredness and only does something for like 20 minutes, 10 of those 20 he is just punching in the face Ryan Gossling, so big disappointment here. The Blade Runner, aka Ryan G has a straight face all the movie and looks like he is about to cry at every minute. No fun, not even a little joke nothing, all is gloomy and dark.
The idea is good, modern slavery, people created in the laboratory to be send on spatial colonies but being much stronger they are used as man power to do chores that normal human beings do not want to do anymore. However this created humans that have all the memories implanted in their head, that never they have been children they are like taken out from the matrix, they rebel, because they have feelings they begin to be more human than the humans who come from the birth canal. And it all climax when a woman created in the lab has a baby, thing that should not have been possible, she has a baby with a human. The mother dies at birth , helped by another created human in the lab to give birth. And the baby is consider a miracle because it is the ultimate proof that even though they are created as full grown up people in the laboratory they are still humans they feel like a human they have emotions they think they dream they care, and they are their own masters, like one of the characters says at the end of the movie.
We have new versions of humans - Nexus 8 - who are seeking and "retiring" older versions who have started to rebel, think and care to much, like really the main reason for which today people still get "discharged" , when trying to do good in a society that must be corrupted in order for the right people to thrive in it.
So slavery is and has been a crime but as as time passes by, humanity will think of a way to use different means to become more lazy and use others to do their work, i mean it is still happening today and not with lab people but with actually humans, their own kind.
The future is like a London day, there is no sun at all throughout the whole movie and sometimes is raining just to make things even more depressing.
The ending I mean suits the main character as he never smiled laughed or joked during the movie and barely has 100 lines, speaks also very little.
Is rather boring and maybe too philosophical for my sleepy brain but still Harrison Ford has done a greater job in indiana jones.
And to make a joke as this movie has none what so ever, is like NEXus 8 or Android 7 destroys Good old Nokia who has been so good to us and helped us on our time of need and now we do not even want to look at the anymore....We are such ingrates. hahahaha. I mean at least i have that joke if I could not get more after 3 hours of dozing off.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Best movie I saw this year
I didn't know the work of Guy Ritchie, I just found out that he is behind Sherlock Holmes and now behind this movie.
Arthur has it all, all that I am looking in a movie while I search it for 2 hours sometimes, it has the fantasy, the great effects, the action, the story , the emotion, the funny moments , the drama. Everything blend in so good that it is officially the best movie I saw all this year and thinking that i was avoiding it for some weeks now.
The way it puts the legend, I don't know how much it respects it cos I am not familiar with the King arthur and Excalibur story, is great. Takes you from the beginning, shows from here Arthur comes the strength his nobility his story his quest for the inner strength to fight his inner and outer demons. It reminds me of Game of thrones, the fantasy the action the plots and the royalty thirst of power, how much they are willing to sacrifice, to be dehumanised just to have as much power as they can and control people with fear.
But someone stands out and fights helped by a mage and his friends. I read here that it reminds also of Lord of the rings, but I don't think so because Lord is more for kids it is more soft, more likely with Game of thrones as a story line but not as violence.
And from now one I will pay more attention at Guy Ritchie movies, cos this one was really great. Action since minute one, not a dull moment, not even a second. Great movie really impressed me.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Action, Horror, Romance ....More specific : Parody
So, where to begin. I love the story from Pride and prejudice I think it is one of the greatest love stories so elegant and charismatic but yet....in this case you just stare and wonder... how on earth did anyone had such an insane idea to mix together Pride and prejudice with Resident Evil? I basically watched the movie because I love the storyline from pride and prejudice and I want to see all ecranisations and also read the book 3 times but as far as this movie I will only recommend if you wanna have a good laugh and then give yourself a slap in the face that you actually saw it.
There are some things that don't make any sense and the story moves so fast, boom now you are at the ball now you are in the middle of the battlefield and so on. But it doesn't make much sense this movie and I believe that his purpose was to be a Twilight parody with zombies than an actually romance action SF movie. Horror is an overstatement , because the horror part is that they keep show disfigured people and they keep cut their head off, so there is not for small kids but still horror is to much said, is a chick zombie flick :))
John Carter (2012)
Can someone get Nick Fury to recruit this guy?
It had everything, action, adventure, romance, fantasy, you name it. Made me think at a lot of movies, like Jumper, because this guy jumps a lot, kangaroo John :)), at Warcraft because it has that Thark population with 4 arms and all are green and very tall, alien style but more like a game fantasy characters, Mad Max Road Fury cos they all do crazy battleship fights and really there is no time to get bored. Really good movie i enjoyed a lot and hardly eat my cereals cos I did not want to lose any of the details.
John Carter takes Mars related movies to a whole other level, without people wondering on a deserted planet and killing one another to see who gets back home, but it has a human story with human feelings and a really good plot regarding the power balance and if this power balance is really decided through victories and defeats or already the games are being made by other high instances. Maybe some wars need to be won by certain sides and it goes like this before our planet even existed. I mean the Matai Shang makes a good point if you want to think beyond the fantasy of this movie. But sometime a hero appears who blows all the game in the air and rewrites everything and this is why I am saying.....can someone get Nick Fury to recruit this guy? Trust me he's good and i think the chick, his new martian wife will do better than Wonder Woman, has more feeling into it and kicks booms like no other.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Good enough to see at home one a Sunday night
So I made my decision, John Connor is a major dushbag. All good and mighty and very smart and sensitive robots must die to defend this sucker :)) There is a moment in the movie where John Connor goes to fight alone with Skynet and when his wife asks :"What I am supposed to say to your men when they ask about you" he replies "I'll be back" , well at that moment if Arnold was watching I think he laughed his pants off , i mean it was so clumsy and stupid coming from John Connor mouth, that i barely could watch.
First of all if Sam Worthington and Christian Bale hadn't played in this movie I think IMDb would have deleted the movie from the movie list :)))). Sam Worthington gets the role very nice and he is a delight to watch, hot hot, but Christian Bale is like the comic version of all Terminators until now, I think for a parody he would have been a good choice but for this part it was a rather weak choice. I tell you when he says "I'll be back " you cant stop laughing. Its like awkward, so out of place that it takes all the serious action that was happening until then out of your mind and makes it comedy like.
Watching this I can tell that The one from 84 and 91 there are Oscar material, the rest are just shallow copies. But thank God that at least this movie had Sam W and Christian Bale they saved the movie just for being present cos the roles and the action are just so weak. I think Sam W is thinking watching this movie "what the heck was I thinking?".
Another tip, hold one for the first hour cos i was close to stop and go to sleep but I kept hoping that Sam W aka MArcus will kiss the girl. That basically kept me going. :) And again, John Connor, oh my god, do robots with their high IQ really die to defend him??? he's like totally useless, you do more stuff and get things happen when the robots intervene.
So I give the movie a 3, but because Bale and Sam are there I give it a 4. :)
The Great Wall (2016)
Great effect, very good story and acting
I thought it's a combination between Alien, Jurassic Park and Robin Hood :)) as a funny comment, but once you see the movie you will understand why this comparison came to my mind. I am not a fan of Mat Damon but in this movie I am, he played well he looks good while using the bow and arrow :)). I say its a movie that is definitely worth seeing. I am happy I did and I will recommend it to anyone who asks me. And also its reminding us one of the most worst trades of human kind. See it its a fantasy action movie for all family to enjoy.
