Terrifier 2 (2022)
An Intense Experience
Seeing a movie like Terrifier 2 get a wide theatrical release is always a treat, it is an independent film and you have to appreciate the work the film makers did to make you squirm in your seat. It delivered in that department and it gave you a story you can follow which is something the original didn't quite get on point with.
Terrifier (2016) is a cult classic, it is a splatter fest with great cinematography and practical effects but the story wasn't quite there. Terrifier 2 brings you a character that you can follow and care for while also having the graphic beauty of the original movie. The practical effects are truly something to be desired and should be nominated. Nothing like the gore on display in Terrifier 2 has been seen before, and it is an intense experience. Reports of people vomiting and passing out upon viewing Terrifier 2 just goes to show the work gone into these practical effects, consider it a badge of honor for the film.
The horror on display is indeed graphic and violent but not exactly terrifying, but that is not what makes it good. It is a horror movie and the scares were genuine but nothing over the top, it's a movie that wants you to experience something uncomfortable instead of jumping at you or slowly dissolve into insanity. It's more like the movie wants the viewers to experience the pain and pleasure of the characters as slowly as it can and it is undeniably uncomfortable to watch but that is what makes it good. The emotions that you feel wether it be pain, joy, anger, discuss, fear are all valid emotions and when a film does that to its viewer it is something to truly be desired.
Not all horror films have keep you up at night, some try to make you feel what it is that needs to be felt in the moment and that is what Terrifier 2 does, it just wants you to squirm in your seat. Thank you Damion Leone for this master gem.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (2020)
Down step for sure, but still worth a look into.
The beginning of the game is not all too special, it seems like ActionVision thought that making another game in Vietnam would sale but they didn't put much quality into it. The characters are not likable cliches of the time period and the game play is just like any other modern Call Of Duty. By the end of the game I have had a change of opinion, it stepped up by the end of the game. The story telling went from bland and repetitive to something from a Bio Shock game, in fact I would even say ActionVision did rip off Bio Shock, but it kinda worked. Is this game the best? No, but it still will hold its own. The game would have been a lot better tho if it didn't have hit markers though, I despise hit markers, I don't need to have an X shape thingy pop up when ever I shoot an enemy, it takes away from the game play. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 didn't have hit markers, and it's better that way. I would honestly give this game an 8 if it weren't for those autism inducing X shaped emblems. The game is worth a look into for its campaign, not as twisty as the first game but it will throw you off.
Hereditary (2018)
Scariest Movie Ever.
Ari Aster is a messed up guy, this movie quite disturbing, and I love it. Most of the scares in this movie are not jump scares, but stick scares. This movie will leave you in fear and a feeling of guilt long after viewing it. Not only does this movie take you on a supernatural thrill ride, it also shows very relatable family issues, at least they were relatable to me. Ari Aster took some of his sorrows when he was growing up and put it in this movie. All of these feelings will stick with you long after watching this one. As much as I love this movie it is most definitely not for everyone, so if you like sleep then you don't want to watch this one. Only downside I have for horror fans is after watching this movie other horror movies will not be near as scary as they used to be, that's just how scary this one is. It's a great movie tho, 10/10.
