Hostile (2017)
Great little film.
Watched this on Prime. I like picking random movies in the horror/sci-fi genre.
The movie looks gorgeous, cinematography is very impressive.
Both actors were great.
The creatures look really effective.
The tension is good and characters likable.
I like the ending. There are a few different ways to interpret it but either way, I enjoyed it.
The Monster (2016)
Loved it from start to almost finish.
This was a gem of a movie. Lots of people reviewing it will moan about it being slow or boring. It was neither. There was, of course, two monsters in the movie, the toothy one in the woods and the mother. An obvious metaphor but acted out superbly but the two lead actresses. I'm always cautious about child actors but this one was great and one to watch for the future. The cinematography was gorgeous with most of the film happening at night, in torrential rain, the lightning had to be good and it was. I give this a 9 having taken in to account the fact the cast and crew obviously had limited resources. It was a straight 10 until the aerosol business but that's easily overlooked. Gripping, emotional and superb performances, a really solid film!
Uncle John (2015)
Near perfect little film!
I watch this knowing nothing about it as I like to do with smaller, indie type films.I watched this expecting a horror movie, it isn't. The acting was fantastic, especially John Ashton who I hadn't seen since way back when he was in Beverly Hills! The pacing was slow but kept me glued the whole time. The sub story which runs along separately from the main story was great. Casting was perfect. Could quite easily pass as a Cohen Bros film, very Fargo-ish. The last 20 minutes are so tense my heart was thumping! Beautifully shot, I will be checking out the director's other work real soon and I just hope this gets a UK blu ray release. A real gem of a film that looks great, sounds great and shows yet again that you don't need £100 million to make a great film! Bravo!
Fun Size Horror: Volume One (2015)
Hit and Miss, but more Hit!
I am a fan of movies such as The ABC's of Death and the VHS films. This is in a similar vein with it's collection of 2 to 5 minute shorts. Like the films I mention above, some hit the mark, some almost hit the mark and others range from plain silly to boring but with them each having a very short run time, who cares! Most of the acting is OK, some of it is almost "good". Not enough scares or chills which I think the other films did much better but a few creepy moments, such as Mr. Hendrix, and some chuckles, such as the over over possessive Labrador! I watched it from start to finish and didn't get bored which happens all to often nowadays.
