Started Strong, Turned to Garbage
24 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There was some decent fighting, and some good flying scenes as well. But, allowing Sabine to make a second stupid as heck decision in suck a short time is lazy writing. They turned her character into the shows Jar Jar.

Finishing with Ashoka communing with Anakin Skywalker was frankly, annoying. That character is the galaxies biggest crybaby. The characterization of Anakin turned the galaxies biggest villain into the galaxies most whining baby. He needs to be left for dead already.

I want to like this show, truthfully. But, it's too contrived, the characters are too downplayed. They could have done this smarter. Hopefully this is the worst of it. Although, it seems likely we will need to see more Anakin in the next episode, so more garbage is on the horizon.

Yeah, it's bad
26 February 2024
Olga is horribly miscast here. Gary Oldman must have been bored. I think he must have done all his scenes in a day or two.

William Mosely is freaking awful. I think he's trying to be menacing. But, when he talks to his FBI boss he may as well have just screamed, I'm a bad guy. I'm crazy. You should all be freaked out by me. The. They should have slapped the snot out of him sent him to acting classes.

The girl playing Oldman's daughter is godawful, except she seems to want to sleep with her dad. It's Donald's and Ivanka levels of gross.

But, just as you realize how incredibly bad it is, you realize your less than 40 minutes in. It just gets dumber and dumber from there.

Two stars because it doesn't deserve to be in the same discussion as Manos the Hands of Fate and Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Mostly Bad with Moments of Slightly Less than Bad
14 December 2023
Early on there are a couple moments that make it seem like this could be entertaining. As it progresses, it progresses steadily down hill. Most of the characters are given nothing to do. They flounder along from one trope to the next waiting for the inevitable, spitting out meaningless lines.

The movie plods forward because the characters keep making bad decisions, poor assumptions, fail to make even the barest minimum of a good decision.

If Katie Cassidy had saved the day by tearing into a solid rendition "I Think I Love You", then this movie might have been redeemed. Sadly. Not a mall was in sight.

Enjoyable
29 October 2023
I think I've passed this movie over for years because it is not truly a Poe tale. It is Poe inspired, and even that is a bit tenuous. But, this move was still fun.

Karloff, as always, is great to watch. He plays the tortured bad guy so well. However, the real performance here is Legosi.

This movie has Legosi at his peak. It's a somewhat slow build. But, when he goes from tipping to fully over the top, it is brilliant. I swear he just wanted to outdo Karloff in that scene. It was terrific. Then he switches back later to almost too pleasant, charming, and contrite. All the while, you know what lies beneath. It's great.

The movie isn't very long and is totally worth the watch.

That was really dumb
1 September 2023
Wow, that was truly as bad as every negative review says. Illogical, poorly thought out, poorly written , which leads to poor performances. They fired the wrong lead at the end of the season.

I decided to watch this after some channel did a bunch of season 8 episodes in a row. This awfulness of this episode pretty well sums up what is saw of the final season.

The castle character was fast becoming useless. He seemed like an add on in most episodes. Arabia Katic's work with the team was solid. Castle just seemed out of place, he continually made stupid decisions, and was generally just a drag on the stories.

Also that last minute or so, wow. Who thought the last two scenes were a good idea. Somebody needs to go back to film school, then be expelled.

Hard to Suspend Enough Disbelief
17 March 2023
The Consultant would be matched out the door. Period, end of story. Not a question. Not an option. He's not an employee, he's a third party worker with a contract. Somewhere there are company lawyers, and it is even a more major suspension of disbelief to think their aren't, that will boot him immediately and take over themselves until they figure out who is in charge. There is a ton of money involved in this company. The vultures would be fighting. This story never gets off the ground.

It is well done, and I see people I've worked with in this guy. Christoph Waltz is always worth watching. But, the impossibility of the premise undermines the show.

Good Idea Gone Wrong
14 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is not good. An anthology series about different guests in the same hotel is a clever idea. The execution leaves a lot to be desired.

The writers use cheap tricks to create twist endings. The poor part of this is that they tell uninteresting stories, then try to clever them up with their weak surprise finish.

The babysitter is attacked she sees a second boy attacking the first. She defends him. She ends up defending herself. But, suddenly one kid. No explanation. Just a stupid finish to a less than engaging story. Or, the crazy couple with the pizza boy are hookers in training. I was never sold on them being crazy. I just sat their waiting for the finish. It was poorly executed, not clever, not interesting. Just someone trying to show that they can be clever while failing to be clever.

Hard pass on this one.

Should have won an Emmy.
2 October 2022
I wanted to run out and buy a display unit right away. Open top, easy inventory counts, adjustable shelves. I can't believe these aren't Annheiser-Busch's primary products. They went wrong focusing on beer. This was revolutionary. Annodized stainless steel fronts, stainless steel bumper guards, easy to see products. These guys knew all there was to know about selling impulse buy products and high profit companion products. It was eye opening. The island unit was incredible. I wanted to go to an island and see these display items in their natural habitat. Amazing. And the girl in the magicians outfit, who she? What happened to her? Why was her career not launched to the stratosphere? This, and the answer to other questions a will have to wait. I must have ice cream now. What an amazing sales tool. Go invest immediately.

Charmed: Oh My Goddess!: Part 2 (2003)

Oh My Crpness.
14 September 2022
While the show is still generally mindless fun, this is where it's steady decent began. Every word that comes out of Chris' mouth is a disaster. The poor guy cannot act. The dialog around him is garbage. He tried to take charge, but completely lacks an air of authority. I can't tell if he's bored, angry, annoyed, still in diapers, or just seriously unhappy to have a job. Seriously, they should have vanquished the doofus and moved on.

The entitlement and smugness of every character is so tedious. It's better to stop here and go back to season 1. The charmed ones lose their charm and become entitled brats.

They rode the Sheldon horse too long
1 September 2022
At some point, as they learn all the childish, mean, and annoying things Sheldon has done to each of them, you think they would throw him out the window. While it's funny in the earlier seasons it's tired and aggravating at this point. I would rather have seen stories about Stuart and Kripke.

This season it starts to feel like the actors are simply reciting lines and they have lost interest. The characters had growth over the years. It had to be somewhat disappointing how often this season returns to characters stereotypes they have outgrown.

In this season Sheldon's belittling of Leonard, or explaining things to Penny, just seems like a step backwards. He should have grown passed this. This episode is worse because we start to see that Sheldon does things just to be mean and feel powerful. This character is not their friend, he is their bully.

It's Pretty Bad
18 June 2022
This movie suffers from weak and inane dialog, underwhelming acting, poor lighting, bad sound.

It has Halle Berry, some pretty shots, and Seals.

It is understandable that Lions Gate shelved this for two years. I guess they eventually needed to make some money back.

An Interesting Early Slasher Comedy
12 June 2022
Jocelyn Jones being chased through the woods is pretty funny. Chuck Connors is over the top. This foreshadows some of his odd performances in later low budget films.

The villain reveal met with Jocelyn Jones delivery of the word "you" is worthy of Saturday the 14th. The score, the conversing mannequins, the faces Chuck Connors pulls, the characters falling or pausing at the right times to be so helpful to the bad guy... Genius!

This one has some unique ideas and delivers them hilariously. The score helps set an odd tone at times. I read the people find this one scary or creepy, it just made me laugh and grin.

Watch this for the lulz. If you like cheesey bad movies, this is worth it. Its also nice to see Tanya Roberts (RIP).

Awful Show
29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is awful. The characters aren't funny they are just repugnant humans. This is just a bunch of jackasses jackassing around. I understand that them being terrible is the point. I understand that the show ended with them in jail because they are such terrible people. But, I don't want to spend 5 minutes watching people like this much less however an entire godawful episode lasts. Unfunny garbage.

A Satisfying Conclusion
14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It felt like work getting through a few of the episodes just prior to the end. This was a satisfying end. Everything happened that was supposed to. The final battle was pretty good.

The downside is that they had to resort to a lucky piece of evidence to bring this to the end. A little bit of weak writing, in my opinion. Basically, the team lucked out. DareDevil didn't get Fisk, Nadeem got Fisk.

Matt spun his wheels, lost fight after fight, and was ineffective all season, or (even worse) they were completely undermined by Karen.

I'm glad this DareDevil is part of the MCU now. I don't want to see Karen again. They burned that character.

This episode was good. This season could have been 2-3 episodes shorter.

Heading Back Up
14 January 2022
As expected, the show is turning toward the finale and this one was a bit better. If Karen had shut up it would have been much better. Bad writing ruined her character, who became nothing more than an tool to fill the episode quota.

Someone mentioned Super-Dex. Gotta agree that his character got old quick. Suddenly Dex could take on The Hand all by himself. The only thing that matters at this point is DareDevil facing off with Kingpin. Everything else is just padding time. Please kill the Dex and Karen characters quick and let's move on to the good stuff. Obviously, this won't happen. This is going to get wrapped up in a whirlwind final episode. Sad.

This season has been dragged out. I'm glad the finish of this episode finally started heading to the finale. Two or three of the preceding episodes could have been cut.

Jay Ali has been great.

Yep, The writers are trying to fill the episode quota
14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was awful. 30 minutes of backstory on the least sympathetic character of the show. This was an agonizing waste of time.

Maybe if they had done the Karen backstory before she made the stupid decision to confront Fisk, then the confrontation would have seemed so moronic. By this time, I was hoping Bullseye would kill here before the credits so we could move on. But, no.

This whole episode is the result of her moronic moves. There's no sympathy left for her. And now we get to suffer further down the spiral with this season. This season just keeps getting worse.

This getting old fast
14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They just keep piling it on. Fisk has his fingers everywhere. He can hurt everyone. He controls everyone.

Matt makes a potentially stupid decision. What a shock. He does that every other episode now.

This season is no longer enjoyable. I'll watch to the end. But, it feels like the writers are just dragging this season out to fill up the episode quota. The episodes in this section of the season are a drag.

Great Acting, Mostly Good, Sloppy Direction for Karen
14 January 2022
The actors delivered in the episode. Most of it was great. The minute Karen went to Fisk, I was done. What a stupid direction to take. Just a stupid move and beneath the character as this season drags out. And yeah, at this point it is becoming a drag to watch everything spiral further and further just so they can wrap it up in the last couple episodes.

The Final Message is Perverse
26 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Heredity is everything. How we live is nothing. Nobody can rise above those born into power. The Skywalker family remains subservient to the Palpatine family and pays the ultimate price. The Palpatine bloodline line carries on. Nobody ever mattered more than them.

That's the result. All for nought, a galaxy free for now, until something flips evil switch. And now, there are no Skywalkers left to protect the galaxy. Nobody else can do it because they weren't born into it.

With a quick bait and switch, we find out this was a Palpatine story all along, and many sacrificed everything for the spawn of evil.

What a message Star Wars has delivered. If you aren't born into the right family, you just don't matter, and your station will always remain the same.

Fun Movie
13 August 2018
This movie was just fun. I walked in hoping it would be fun, mindless and silly enough to laugh at. It delivered.

I think everyone in the movie was totally aware of the type of movie they were making and played it well. Not too serious, not too ridiculous. Enough to make the characters likable and still laugh at them.

There are enough Jaws call outs, and probably other movies, to make it clear that this is a self aware movie that only intends to entertain. It does that. Refuse to take it too serious and go have fun.

The Mediocre Knight
3 August 2012
A mediocre comic book film. While decent at times, there are too many patches of poor dialog the bring out poor performances from the actors. While Bruce Wayne is reluctant to put back on the bat suit, Bale seems equally reluctant to put on his Bruce Wayne suit. His performance is entirely uninteresting and he never seems to recover any fire.

Hathaway does a fair job, but she and Bale lack chemistry. A scene with Levitt is so poorly written and performed it is painful to watch.

Bane is never menacing. It sounds like he is impersonating Jeremy Irons from Die Hard 3. He also does this ridiculous head shake during his speech, as if to insure the audience that he is speaking.

The tie in to A Tale of Two Cities is obvious and ham fisted.  There is so little build up to the behavior the citizens quickly adopt that  it just fails to make itself plausible. While the personal sacrifice from A Tale of Two Cities makes that story powerful, the cop out in this film weakens the whole story.

Some of the action scenes are pretty good. Some are just ridiculous. Batman always seems like some guy in a suit who is fighting a creepy guy with a mask.

Overall this movie just fails to ever become compelling.

The Prestige (2006)

Predictable and Contrived
19 November 2007
There was very little to enjoy in this movie. The characters were so unsympathetic as to create apathy for what ever happens next. The plot was predictable; the twists were contrived and silly.

The movie itself, while very stylish and pretty to look at, felt forced. It lacks the smooth illusionist's quality that allows us to suspend disbelief and be deceived or dive in and accept the illusion. Instead it bumps along and tries to bully us into believing that we were just fooled.

The greatest success of the movie is the creation of the period. The costumes, sets and scenery do an excellent job of putting us in the setting. Visually, the movie is excellent.

Dr. Tesla's scientific solution is a horrible plot contrivance that turns a mediocre movie into a something worse. The result of the experiment fails to surprise or shock. The "trick" can be seen coming at us. Personally, I wanted be wrong and hoped there would be some final plot twist that would surprise and redeem this movie. There wasn't.

This movie fails to come together. As the film draws to a conclusion, it is very hard to care which character will win. Both are reprehensible enough that it is just too late to care what happens.

The Prestige is just frustrating to sit through for all the wrong reasons.
