The Walk-In (2022)
He smashes it again
I thought Stephen Graham was truly fantastic in this gritty true to life turn of events that shows what actually happened in a real life case of an MP being murdered and all of the associated nonsense that went about prior to it happening.
It's a nonsensical and totally ridiculous murder that has the grounds for the entire story, but the way we get there is truly terrifying and very much an eye opener. As ever, Graham delivers an amazing performance and his supporting cast deliver a truly wonderful act of bringing us a masterpiece of British TV.
This is a hard watch but not because of brutal scenes, more that it requires a sane head to be able to compute it all.
Boiling Point (2021)
It's a very good film
Don't watch this if you want a quick payoff!!
I thought it was a great film, the script is very good and the direction and filming is so very well done.
This was filmed in one take and when you know that, it adds to the experience of watching it.
The actors are superb and the storyline goes at a steady pace. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but for my money it is a wonderful film. It's one of those that you have to just keep watching. Very clever and very good.
I would happily watch anything with Stephen Graham in it anyway but he was particularly good and it's another brilliant piece of work he has provided to the world.
Give it a go. It's well worth an hour of your life.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Quite simply one of the very best
Now let's be clear, in these modern days of Pixar and all the wondrous advances in animation we've seen, this film may seem "dated".
But..... it's a great storyline, the animation blended with real life is truly brilliant and it's also a very funny film. I'm still not entirely sure how the producers got all the various studios with their much loved characters to all appear in the film, but they did. And it makes for one of the best cinematic experiences of the past 50 years. And yes, I really do stand by that. It's a wonderful wonderful film.
Area 51 (2015)
B Movie
I mean, I hated Blair Witch and this is another handheld first person filmed movie. That said, the suspense and build up is very good. But it is pretty sh't.
Enjoy it if you like a very slow burn but for me it really isn't very good.
2/10 just because I thought it was crap. Lowest score I've ever given.
The Righteous Gemstones: And Infants Shall Rule Over Them (2022)
Oh but that puking scene!!!!
Genuinely hilarious. I proper belly laughed at this episode. Definitely one to watch. It's the show that keeps on giving.
I don't want to reveal anything so I'll leave it there and let you all enjoy it.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Quite simply the best war film of all time
***NO spoilers***
I seldom give 10 stars. If the first 20/30 minutes doesn't deeply move you then I don't know what will. The character depth, the cinematography, the storyline, it's simply amazing. This is genuinely one of the best films ever made. The human story is second to none. And not just with the main protagonist. It is second to none.
A cinematic masterpiece. One of the highest ranking films you absolutely have to watch. It's simply astounding.
Line of Duty: Episode #6.7 (2021)
Unbelievably disappointing
No spoilers. Just so sad that an episode that promised so much, and had millions of people speculating, ended the way it did.
It picked up pace as it went along but, well, not what I was hoping for.
Free Solo (2018)
As inspiring as it is absolutely terrifying.
First things first, it is a bit of a slow burner. But wow is the wait worth it! We meet Alex and learn of his ultimate dream, and then follow his personal journey leading to his attempt at climbing a truly awe-inspiring rock-face. The cinematography is off the chart! You will be blown away by the sheer beauty of it. But be warned, at points it is heart stopping. This is one of those "must see" films. I'd give it 11 if I could. You will not be disappointed giving this one w go.
Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
Absolutely classic Robin Williams
I genuinely believe this is his funniest film. It's a wonderfully comic movie with darker undertones. It's one of those you just sit back and enjoy. And it has a really great soundtrack. One of my favourite movies
