Battleship (2012)
common enemy
25 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I loved how they worked the Japanese Navy into the movie. If only they could've worked in a few Navy personnel from Vietnam and the Middle East in, fighting a common enemy to save planet earth. I would've been even more thrilled. Battleship was full of great action, and some might even believe that a World War II museum ship could be brought back into action on a moments notice, as if they held live ammunition on-board a decommissioned ship, used as a museum for tourist. The CGI effects were great, compatible with and possibly even better than the Transformer series of movies. The storyline in Battleship was maybe a little more plausible, and most definitely more exciting. It was interesting how they equated the aliens with our earlier 'New World' explorer's, and pretty much on the mark with how they terminated their resistance. Of course things would've looked much different now, had the Mayan's, Axtec's, Inca's, and natives of the America's accomplished what earth's forces did in this movie. But then, it was a movie, an enjoyable and entertaining one, definitely not a documentary by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe, one day a movie will be created where America, Japan, and the Middle East navy's are fighting a common enemy. We don't have to wait for reptilian aliens to attack, as what happened in Battleship. How about just joining forces in a planetary fight against ignorance and hatred.

Arbitrage (2012)
5/10
A sorry ending
17 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Arbitrage did a decent job of setting up the characters, and progressing through all the scenario's, until the end when it leaves you feel like you've been left hanging. I get it, the reasons why everyone did what they did, and said what they said (i.e. wife, new owner, daughter, etc.) but the movie somehow left me with a feeling of incompleteness. I would've rather the cop had barged into the awards dinner, with all his peers there. and placed handcuffs on the main character, placing him under arrest as he stood at the podium. accepting his award. Sure, it could've left us wondering what evidence was uncovered, or manufactured, but if I'm going to be left hanging, I'd rather be left hanging there. Some of the things he was involved in and overcame, were plausible, but as a whole, not so much. If you like 'far fetched' plots, you will enjoy watching Arbitrage, at least until the last few minutes of the movie, which is anti climactic. Surely, we're not suppose to believe he signed the legal document his wife sprung on him, essentially submitting to her blackmail. After all the things he was previously able to wiggle out of, he couldn't somehow wiggle out of that? Or, maybe we are expected to believe it was his wife who he succumbed to, in the end. In that case, he would not, could not, be the 'all powerful' which the movie attempts to personify. Obviously, the writers wanted him to somehow be cut down, but I would've preferred the handcuff disgrace, rather than what we are expected to believe his wife had accomplished. Maybe his being arrested would've given the perception that he didn't sign it, and to the contrary, he wasn't arrested, so we can assume he did sign it. I guess we can assume his wife didn't know that he had taken care of both of their children, in the deal. I'm not sure just what we are expected to assume. When Sarandon was kissed on the forehead by Gere as he stood up to accept his award, her expression was all we were given, and it gave little indication of who capitulated. All I'm saying is to be prepared for a let down. Sorry, but this movie was incomplete for me. Too bad, because the acting wasn't bad.

Wrecked (2010)
2/10
What a crock
7 June 2012
This movie was either, totally absurd, or we are suppose to think that this character is a total idiot. Possibly the knock on the head caused some mental lapse in IQ. Obviously, a wreck of such destruction would cause some anxiety, if not brain damage and hallucinations. I collided with a stalled eighteen wheeler, while I was traveling 70 mile an hour, ending up underneath the truck, with my cars engine in the front seat with me, and it didn't seems as bad as what this fellow endured. Maybe they'll do a followup film, to find he escaped from a mental ward, and the whole thing was just a schizophrenic episode where he hallucinated everything, even the truck driver rescue. Would that be any more far fetched than what we were given to believe. It's done all the time in cinema. A whole season of the television series 'Dallas' was dreamt, to justify bringing a cast member back to life. Only, you can't bring someone back to life, who was never dead. We are expected to believe just about anything, and everything. Hollywood sometimes seems to think we are mindless beings who will watch, and believe anything they can put on the screen. This movie is one of those, a real waste a lot of time, and a bigger waste of enjoyment. It seems like they did everything they could to stretch out 90 minute, and that was too much time for this movie. I had to fast forward through much of it, and didn't miss anything. This movie might be a halfway descent 30 minute video, at best. Hollywood (fig) does produce a lot of high quality, believable film, but this definitely isn't one of them, and doesn't even come close. Do I remember some birds chirping in the movie, "cheap, cheap, cheap." Too cheap for a high price actor. Actually, the acting has merit, but the adaption sucked.

Air Collision (2012 Video)
Amazing and Interesting
27 March 2012
Amazing waste of time, and interesting that I watch the whole video. If you'd like to watch something that is silly and almost pulp fictional, you might finish it also. There are way too many goofs, and ridiculously unbelievable instances. It would take a book to list them all. The dialog was sophomoric, and the acting was on par with a high school drama department with a video camera and a little imagination. The plausibility of a DC-9's wing smashing into the sides of a buildings, and continuing to fly, is somewhat hard to accept. Also, an out of control computer firing lasers down the hallways of Air Force One, takes more imagination than most average viewers are willing to give. We are expected to overlook a great deal, and use great imagination on the rest. The commercial pilot is one of the most believable characters with respect to his lines and his deliverance of them throughout the video, and he isn't too bad to look at, either. Even if they were all excellent actors, they didn't have much to work with in the way of script. The video could've explained in more detail what caused the catastrophe to begin, why everything suddenly started dropping out of orbit, most often making direct contact with populated, yet indiscriminate targets. We can guess what was, and wasn't going to happen, when a commercial flight is headed directly for Air Force One. but you'll have to watch the video to know for sure. The question is, will the video hold your interest that long. I stuck it out, even though it was predictable, but many won't.
