Janus (1994)
An absolute classic
15 years on, this show continues to set the bar higher than any other courtroom/crime drama can achieve. No gratuitous sex, violence, bad language etc. Both the main plot and the "cameo" plots are brilliantly carried out, highlighting both the majesty and the failures of the justice system.
Simon Westaway again plays Peter Faithful from Pheonix, and again is a love-hate character. The Hennesseys are a great characterisation of a certain Melbourne family (and where real life has more recently imitated fiction) One of the all time Aust classics and with Phoenix represent the zenith of police/court/crime drama - no dramatics, just great plots and story lines. Thankfully it is now on DVD and is still brilliant
The Hollowmen (2008)
(At times) Too close to the truth for comfort
As someone working in the Australian government policy environment, it was very good start and a scarily accurate portrayal of dealing with political advisers. The one negative is the Prime Minister and Cabinet guys are totally wrong, at least for ones so senior. However, they do seem to have a resemble a few junior staff in PM&C that I've dealt with.
Everything else is so close to the mark, it could almost be a documentary! The use of the market research team by the advisers is a real frustration for those of us who try to develop "frank and fearless" advice to our beloved ministers.
