Rurôni Kenshin: Meiji kenkaku romantan (2023)
Loving this so far
The original anime adaptation was great, it's the first adaptation of Kenshin that I fell in love with. Then, I watched the movies with Satoh Takeru were awesome. Satoh will Always be the best live action Kenshin and Battousai. I was itching and hoping for a newer version anime for Kenshin. I haven't read the manga, but I understand they strayed pretty far from the source material in the 1996 series. Im hoping with this new version, they'll stay true to Kenshin's story and have more of a balance of characters. Im on episode 11, and so far there's more chemistry between Kenshin and Kaoru, Kenshin and Sano and all together the bond between all of them as friends. The Jin-e arch was amazing in this version, gave me chills seeing him revert to Battousai. Which, I think the actor they chose for the sub version does an incredible job as Kenshin and Battousai. Overall, I think this is a worthy, and very very good remake.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Conflicted
The first two episodes left me very conflicted about how to feel. On a one hand, I was a big fan of the original show and it's nice seeing them together again. I think they handled the Samantha situation with more heart and class than I thought they would. I don't agree with how Steve and Miranda are raising Brady. There's a lot of gender this, racial that. Even some anti trump stuff. They've got the CoVid situation in there. I don't want to give away a pretty huge spoiler, but really? The very first episode? So quick. So rushed. Sure the second episode has a lot of heart, but i just couldn't believe it. I knew they would do it, and they actually did it. I'm torn on what to think. If this is just going to be a new version of the show with social justice b.s I'm out. Why does it have to infiltrate every single thing we listen to it watch. The original show pushed the boundaries at the time, but this was one step away from constantly pushing it in your face. Not sure if I want to continue to the next episode.
Vincenzo (2021)
Wow wow wow.
I didn't expect much from this show at all. In fact I expected to not even finish the first episode. But boy I'm glad I did.
This show surpassed my expectations in the very best way. The show is original and very well written and paced out. Song Joon-ki is awesome, amazing and sexy as hell as Vincenzo. He embodies the role whole heartedly. He makes you laugh, makes you cheer him on to kick ass and tugs on your heart strings. I was incredibly impressed with his skill and dedication to this role. The supporting cast are endearing and throughout the series you get to know a little bit about each one. There is surprisingly a lot of humor, which is honestly a relief because without it the show would be very dark. If I had one gripe it would be sometimes I thought the episodes where a tad long. But on the other hand, you just get to spend more time with Vincenzo and his ragtag group of friends so didn't mind it.
This show is just flat out awesome. So much better that whatever Hollywood is peddling out. I hope there's a season two, this show totally deserves it!
Koi wa tsuzuku yo doko made mo (2020)
Sweet, adorable and charming
My god, this show is so damn lovable!
I went into this show not expecting much and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Our protagonists are both so endearing, especially Tendo sensei. His continuous insult of "Baka" to Sakura somehow morphs into this shared, inside joke and term of endearment towards one another. I'm beginning to think Takeru Satoh (tendo sensei) can just do no wrong. He's amazing in every role he takes on. He always brings so much depth to everything character he embodies. His scene at the end of episode 9 broke me with how he finally expressed his feelings for her. At the beginning I was iffy about Sakura with her tendency to over share, but by the end I was rooting for her and loved seeing her break through the walls he'd built to protect himself from hurting again. Such a sweet, satisfying story that left me not wanting to part from these two characters. Here's hoping for more Tendo and Sakura!
Loki (2021)
Eh
I appreciate the story they started to set up the rest of the MCU, but holy cow this show is overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad show, it's just a show with a bunch of filler and talking. A BUNCH of talking. I get it, they're setting the ground work for the TBAs backstory, but dang. Even with the action scenes I felt like some were oddly staged and edited together. Sometimes it seems like Loki reacted to something well before it actually happened. And why is it all the sudden to hard for Loki to defend himself? Especially against the women in this show? And why does the female Loki get just as much, and sometimes more show time than Loki himself? She's just not as compelling or charming as he is. Also, why was it necessary to add a conversation about Loki going both ways? It's literally never came up before, and served no point and had absolutely no barring on the shows story. This show was just a precursor for what's to come honestly. I was left underwhelmed. If this is the direction that Disney is gearing up for, they're in trouble.
Rurôni Kenshin: Meiji kenkaku romantan (2012)
Wow
For a manga/anime to live action adaptation of Ruroni Kenshin, this is pretty damn good. Far better than I expected. Somehow they managed to keep Kenshin's story more grounded as if in real life. The sword play and choreography is amazing, and in up close shots of certain moves I was literally saying out loud, "that was so cool!" The actor who played Kenshin (Takeru Satoh) did very well, balancing the light hearted and sweet Kenshin to the serious assassin Battosai with realism I that I believed.
All in all, very well done and very much looking forward to watching the rest of the series. Awesome work to those who made this!
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Eh
A marvel/Disney production with a noticeable dose of identity/racial/border politics.
Don't get me wrong, I always really liked Sam. Bucky always bugged me, but watching this, his character has really grown on me a lot, but come on. This is one long, convoluted story of how Sam becomes Cap and him and Bucky become friends with dashes of racial tension and politics peppered in. You could cut half of the story out and it'd still be the same story, which you can see the plots coming a mile a away.
That being said, love Sam and Bucky and their new found friendship. What Sam did for the old man was very sweet. Love that Sam is cap, although I thought his costume was a bit weird.
All in all, just eh on the series though. Felt like a bunch of filler to get to the conclusion we knew was coming.
Bridgerton (2020)
Don't understand all the hate
I seriously think people nowadays just need to find something to complain about it. This show isn't realistic, it's a show. It's a fantasy. In fact, it's a fantasy of rich aristocratic families, so of course we won't relate. But I loved it. For those saying it's shallow, pride & prejudice circles around the same themes. Sure this show is more lusty and the duke is fine as hell, but the problems are the same. Finding matches to marry. Aristocratic families who lived in the lap of luxury, had nothing better to do back then but try and find ways to entertain themselves so of course you can look at it as shallow, or you can loosen up and enjoy. I found it easy to get wrapped up in The main love story, they're believable together and have great chemistry. The loves scenes are enough to make a grown woman blush. For those saying it's not historically correct, some shows don't need to be. None of us had a problem with Brandy being Cinderella and the prince being the asian son of a white man and Whoopi Goldberg. Lighten up. All in all, I was sad to see this season end, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking for to the seasons to come.
WandaVision: Previously On (2021)
So emotional
Not ashamed to admit I ugly cried during a certain part in this episode. Wanda and Vision have always been my favorite couple in the MCU, and a refreshing dose of romance and heartbreak in infinity wars. This episode dives into the despair Wanda has felt over Vision and really her entire life thus far. She's been through so much loss at this point there's almost the justification that she deserves some sort of happiness. Elizabeth Olsen has such a commanding emotional core to Wanda it's almost impossible to not have your heart break along with hers.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Awesome!
So nostalgic and awesome. Great humor, great building of former characters. I actually find myself liking Johnny more that Daniel because of his sense of humor. Sure it's over the top and it can be slow in parts, but it grabs you in the feels in spots and then makes you cheer where it matters. Season 3 finale was amazing! Cant wait for season 4!
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2016)
My All Time Favorite Game
I was never much of a gamer by any means, except for the occasional Tomb Raider here and there. But this game and this franchise blows Tomb Raider out of the water.
This was the first game I played in the uncharted series, and boy did I start with the best one. You really see (especially having played the first 3 games) how much more story and character driven the writers and creators are.
The graphics are beautiful and ahead of their time, in my opinion. Nolan North is always great and the addition of Troy Baker as Sam, his long lost brother, is the perfect fit. You can sense the chemistry with the whole cast.
The action is great, never long dulls in between exciting/action parts. Characters are engaging and relatable. There's no herky-jerky glitchy spots in this one like there is in the first three.
In short, I absolutely love this game and the story it tells. It's amazing!
Haunted Towns (2017)
Not as terrible as many are saying
This show is one that if there's nothing else on to watch, just let it play and you might get into it a little or you might not.
I like that these guys don't seem overreact if things happen around them, and that they aren't ashamed of praying over themselves before they start their search. They don't seem douchy like the obnoxious guy from ghost adventures either. They're all pretty mellow.
My annoyances are that they do come off as a little amateur-ish because of their lack of trying to disprove things. They tend just just agree as a group that whats going on is real rather than having a skeptical eye. They also tend to try to steer their investigations in the direction they want, almost as if to serve the narrative they're trying to prove, but they only ever come to their own conclusions instead of facts.
Honestly, Ghost Nation, the original Ghost Hunters and Kindred Spirits are much better, but I've seen much worse than this show.
Downton Abbey (2010)
Nearly perfect early 1900s beautiful drama
If I could give this show a 9.5, that would be more accurate for my rating. This show pretty much has everything you're looking for in a glorious period drama. Real historical events, love, drama, and a sprinkle those characters we just love to hate.
The costumes are beautiful. The house is magnificent, and I appreciate the story telling from both sides, the rich and titled, and the servants who keep the house running.
The only issues that struck me while watching was the writing from time to time. In season 3 there seemed to be an identity crisis of the show and stories, almost as if they were trying to decide what type of show they were trying to be; shock value, like You never know who will make it and what they'll throw at you? or will they be more focused on day to day life and love? There are some choices that I feel the writers made that didn't make sense, or that weakened their main cast. Other story lines seemed to drag on and on, and others seemed to fade with no resolve.
But even with those minor problems, or major, depending on how forgiving the viewer is, I still love this show. And will most likely watch it all over and over again, secretly hoping they'll bring it back to life one day.
