Haunted Harmony Mysteries: Murder in G Major (2023)
Fantastic
I don't agree with the reviewer who felt that the positive reviews were from Hallmark employees.
I absolutely loved this title. Tamera was absolutely charming, and I thought this concept was fantastic. I'm glad Hallmark chose to adapt this title, I'm planning to request it at my local library!
I thought the whole cast was really strong and the scenery was so beautiful.
If you haven't picked up a new Hallmark mystery series in awhile, I would recommend this one. I really hope they make more soon!
Ps- there were some goofy parts of the movie- two adults riding one bike (that wasn't even a tandem bike)? I had to laugh. It's a very cute and well-done move.
Love in the Forecast (2020)
Eek
If anyone needs a meteorology-themed Hallmark movie, check out Cloudy with a Chance of Love. It's funny, has a great cast, and emphasizes the complicated science (!!) involved in weather forecasting.
This movie tried to establish a strong female character with big ambitions and career goals on the horizon. Unfortunately, a weak script and (I hate to say) portrayal on the part of Busby couldn't carry this one off.
Time for You to Come Home for Christmas (2019)
Alison Sweeney with a Winner
Alison Sweeney is always wonderful and I hope she will continue to make more HM Christmas movies.
One note, did anyone think the music at the Snowball at the very end of the music was a little ill-timed or distracting? I was trying to focus more on the couple dancing but the music comes through very strongly in that scene.
I thought that the relationship between Alison's character and her son was very sweet and realistic. Thank you Hallmark for this wonderful movie!
Three Wise Women (2010)
The best
Okay, I completely understand that this movie may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but I thought it was probably the funniest and most charming Hallmark movies I have ever seen. It totally breaks the mold of most hallmark movies, with just enough tried and true tropes to satisfy dedicated Hallmarkies.
If you love British and Irish period dramas, watch this! I found lots of actors that I had seen in other things- most of whom who were in this movie prior to some break out role. The main lead Liz in this movie is wonderful and clearly this was going to be her first and last Hallmark before she heads on to the big leagues. She is so likeable- even while playing a colder, career-conscious doctor. I really enjoyed her in this film. Also teenage Ellie had me laughing out loud. She has some hilarious one-liners that stole some scenes for me.
Stick with the whole movie. You'll be glad you did and I can't wait to watch this one again next year!
The Mistletoe Secret (2019)
no need to beat a dead horse
Kelly's not going to garner any nominations for this one (except, maybe, for most patently disliked hallmark lead). BUT Tyler Hynes and Christopher Russell are wonderful in this movie, and the cyrano story was very entertaining. I would love to see these two act together again, and felt that their friendship was genuine. Honestly, Tyler Hynes carries this movie with humor and grace. I will definitely rewatch next year!
A Christmas Duet (2019)
all the right notes!
This is a standout for me in the line up of Hallmark holiday movies thus far-- I just loved the leads together, and though the plot was busy, I liked the fact that there were quite a few things that kept the Blue Spruce inn buzzing. The main actors are so talented musically, and though the original song wasn't my favorite (and I thought didn't quite do justice to both of their talents), I couldn't help but wish for more! Thank you, Hallmark!!
Picture a Perfect Christmas (2019)
Jon Cor 💕
Ok! fair points on this being slow paced, but gosh if I don't love sweet Jon Cor! great supporting cast, and a young supporting actor who wasn't a precocious child! will watch again!
A Christmas Miracle (2019)
So SWEET!
Tamera Mowry is so talented and made this movie come to life. Sweet, sappy, and extremely Christmas-y. Tamera, please make lots more of these!! Brooks Darnell was wonderful as well! Hallmark, you have a winner here!
Over the Moon in Love (2019)
i get the feeling this was a rush job
The script, the characters, the storylines-- nothing about this felt settled. I mean, Brooklyn and Devin were flipping through their old yearbook that wasn't alphabetized (okay, I know that's nitpicky, but, that's yearbook rule number #1?) and it looked like some poor intern had poured over it in the wee hours of the morning, hoping no one would notice.
And we still didn't get a really solid reason for why these really close friends lost touch. Sure, people lose touch, but if they had such a slow-burn friendlationship you'd think in the era of social media that they would have connected at some point?
There were a few spots where the story just wasn't fully formed. And a lot of people will argue, it's Hallmark, give it a break, and I get that. But the Hallmark production team is capable of a lot- think June in January (to pick a movie Wes Brown fans will know) or the more recent Love to the Rescue. These movies have heart and the stories and the people in them feel real, as do the moments we experience in them as an audience. Let's get back to that, Hallmark. To be honest, I've never watched a movie starring Lowndes and felt that. Oh well.
Oh, while I'm here, please give Mia (Naika Toussaint) a starring role (or a few?). She was adorable and could have headlined this movie. As could Miranda Frigon. Just my two cents.
Wedding at Graceland (2019)
Not my favorite
I do like the fact that this movie was filmed on location in Memphis, and felt that there was an authenticity there that you don't always sense as a viewer in other Hallmark movies that take place in NY or Seattle.
Otherwise, though that was a bright spot, this movie contained a few missed beats for me. It's just a hard sell to expect viewers to continue to watch these place-holder, in-between movies that depict the months leading up to a wedding. I would argue that, though wedding planning might make for good drama, it really doesn't develop the characters in a way that is satisfying. Anyone who has planned a wedding could probably attest that the process is draining, stressful, and places strain on family ties.
I think I would have enjoyed seeing our characters grow as a family more, or maybe we could have gotten to interact more with characters we'd met in the first film or even new characters. True to Hallmark fashion, we could have had Laurel and Clay match-make friends, enjoy family walks, and enjoy summer in the city with extended family. There was plenty of conflict as Laurel and Clay's parents interacted with one another, and it felt like entirely too much conflict when the whole wedding imploded at the last moment.
In the next installment in Laurel and Clay's story, I hope to see more time as a family as they learn to love one another in the city that has become home.
From Friend to Fiancé (2019)
oh gracious.
This movie was a challenge to finish, as other reviewers have noted. I just can't do 'adorkable', which is what they were going for here (with Jocelyn Hudon's character, Jessica). I don't know about you, but it's tough to watch characters ramble on, fall down steps, and put their foot-in-their-mouth over and over again. I already do this in real life; I don't need to watch it a movie that is already resigned itself to being a purely escapist film. At each of Jessica's missteps I felt more than just uncomfortable. It was really, really difficult to watch.
I did like that the writer's incorporated an older man who was a kind friend to Jessica. I just wish he, and all the other characters, did more than tell Jessica to 'follow her heart' in challenging moments in the film. She was questioning everything and was absolutely in crisis. Her best friend, the love of her life, was getting married and she had a gut-wrenching realization seemingly too late. Yet, no one seemed to truly empathize with her or do anything beyond slap-stick scheming.
This film really missed the mark for me.
Love to the Rescue (2019)
So SWEET
Okay, y'all, this one was a winner:
-Nikki DeLoach was in a movie without Andrew Walker-- (not that he's not wonderful, but they needed to switch that pairing up imho)-- and the world kept rotating
-Michael Rady. What a guy.
-the film was ACTUALLY filmed where it was set (in the gorgeous Savannnah, GA!). Also, according to a lil Insta detective work (btw, Hallmark, I am willing and able to write/star/direct my own series about Insta investigations; Lacey Chabert has a series based on crime crossword puzzle solving and it only seems fair) this movie wrapped filming about a month ago?!? How does Hallmark do this? They're a well-oiled machine and I was so impressed, for real.
-Their children had personalities and weren't just plot devices (though I did think they had a bit of an unrealistic amount of time to get ready before school in the morning, but that is a very small critique). They seemed to have a genuine friendship and I was here for it!
- Nikki's character's personality was very outgoing and fun which I can appreciate even though she's not my personal fave lead. I thought she did a great job and her delivery of the comments given on stage after the short film premiered-- deep cuts for sure. I wasn't crying; you were crying...
-There wasn't drummed up drama in the last 15 minutes or a misunderstanding-turned-jumping to the worst conclusion- moment trope. AHH! Hallmark plz do this always. Thank you. Thank you, thank you.
Such a winner!! A very well-worth a re-watch!! Well-done, everyone.
Love Under the Rainbow (2019)
'clean compost' kid was robbed
This movie is typical hallmark. David Haydn-Jones. Jodie Sweetin. Children who serve as plot devices.
The characters aren't well developed, as each character only gets one interest: Lucy's father gets 'baseball', Sophie gets 'rainbows', etc.
Also, I really thought Sophie's classmate captured lightning in a bottle with that clean compost idea!! justice for that kid-- deserved that science fair win for sure!
BUT it's sweet and I will never quit watching these movies for anything.
