Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000)
Instant Classic!
It's a rated R Seinfeld, some of the story lines are extremely similar, but there's so much more. Sometimes you feel awkward for Larry, other times you're cheering him on for saying things most of us are afraid to say (especially in 2024!). While watching every episode is not required to see any other episodes, I highly recommend not missing any episodes! The different cameos are fun. Watching the entire series back to back while the 12th season is filming, you get to see numerous actors who went on to have careers in Hollywood, not sure they're related but....i don't know.....
Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!
My biggest complaint is that from the beginning of the series he says he messed up the finale of Seinfeld, then he copies it for his finale....and it's easy to see coming from season 11!
The Saint of Second Chances (2023)
If you are a sports fan and/or a dad, this is a must see
I started out watching this as I love sports documentaries. Great stories on baseball and how the entertainment in baseball came to be. Guy rises, guy messes up, guy falls....guy gets second chance. Seems normal right? Regular documentary story line...Now comes the best part of the story, the dad aspect enters. He introduces his second wife, his kids and how they tie into the storyline. No spoilers here, but there is a wicked twist and it totally makes this documentary one the best I've ever seen, and I watch a LOT of documentaries. I've already told everyone I know to watch it, you should too. You won't be disappointed.
Mafia Mamma (2023)
Toni Collette's best performance
Not a Toni Collette fan, so I didn't expect much. In all honesty, I watched it as it was mafia based, otherwise I wouldn't have given it a second look. It was funny and entertaining. Sometimes predictable, but still entertaining. Monica Bellucci is the best character in the movie and nails her part! Still a beautiful woman after all these years. Your typical "take over the family business" movie. Definitely a streamer versus seeing it in theaters, but still worth the watch. Several Godfather II references for you diehard mafia movie fans. The supporting cast was well picked for the most part. A mafia movie most of the family can enjoy (some crude language at times and violence....but it is the mafia!
Twisted Metal (2023)
Give me those brain cells back
I get it. Twisted Metal was a great game from my childhood. I loved it and I came into this not expecting much. After all, it's about a game that is more or less a demolition derby. This had some good actors in it, it had a time proven theme that would catch the attention of generations. It had.....poor writing. Maybe if you can't do it, just let it be. Sometimes they make a series out of something that should have been a movie. Not the case here. You couldn't take away enough of this bad writing to have even a 90 minute movie left over. To quote a classic film, "..on what day did did God create the Twisted Metal TV series and why couldn't he have rested that day too?
Clerks (1994)
One of the greatest movies of our time
This cult classic may not be in color, it may have been low budget and it may have been made by an unknown writer/director at the time.... BUT!!! It has stood the test of time as one of the greats, launched the career of Kevin Smith and one could argue Jason Mewes (one of the few actors in this classic that has acted outside Kevin Smith directed movies). The characters have lived on to be mentioned in the other movies of the Kevin Smith universe and true fans eat that up like nobodies business! The start of a golden trilogy (it's not Star Wars, but some say it's close) it sets the stage for no less than a dozen other Kevin Smith classics, most of which are related. In closing, all I'll say is 37?????
Tell (2014)
Great B Movie
Lots of actors you know, they all do a great job. It would appear though that they spent the budget on the salary of the actors. Decent story line, had some good action. Seemed believable for the most part. If you're bored and have seen every top movie out there, looking through the B movies and not sure what to expect, take a look at this one, you won't be disappointed. My wife loves crime shows, this had that element and so we could break away from the true crime stories for 90 minutes. At the end of the day, it was better than I expected. It's not launching any careers, but it's not crashing any either.
Van Halen 1984 Documentary (2023)
Great insight from a fan perspective
The first 2 episodes have been released and are amazing. I would think this was done professionally had I not known better. The details that were released about the band are some id never heard before, made me revisit my Van Halen discography and appreciate it like I was 16 again. This writer has some good insights and either an "in" with someone close to the band or is just as good an investigator as he is documentary writer. My understanding is that this is not his only documentary series. I highly recommend you watch this and enjoy it, then go look for his other works. You won't be disappointed.
Triangle of Sadness (2022)
Save your money!
So no spoilers, but this was a bad movie with a worse ending. I'm the type of person who can't call it quits on a movie. I started this as I saw it was rated 7/10 and a satirical comedy, I generally like those. I think they forgot the comedy aspect. Lots of drama, not entertaining. Woody Harrelson couldn't even save it and I generally find him very amusing. I think the triangle of sadness starts when you're excited to watch a satirical comedy, then it is slow moving, not really easy to follow why the people are doing what they're doing and the trifecta was the way it ends before the credits role. I can't even make a joke about why it would be a comedy...
Pink Floyd: The Wall (1982)
Must see for Pink Floyd fans
I've seen this a couple dozen times. Honestly, I watched for the first time at the age of 16 and didn't quite understand it, so kept watching it over and over again until I understood and loved it. Watching it again (now a 40 year old movie) and it stands the test of time. It is a musical, but fret not, it's more of Pink Floyd music with various videos played in the back, that tied together create a storyline. Probably too late for you to see the concert at this point, but that was great too and Roger Waters released that on DVD also and I recommend that as well. If you haven't watched it yet and are a Pink Floyd fan, this is a must see.
Arresting Behavior (1992)
Quite possibly the best sitcom that never happened
Why was this cancelled and where can I get a copy of it. Hilarious start to finish! Wish someone would pick up the script and run with it. Total parody of the show cops, the police were bumbling and fumbling through the daily routine with a camera crew following them. Covered work and home life of the officers it was about. Original comedy the Hollywood dropped probably to make another Law and Order or NCIS. Write your local congressman to get this show reinstated today!
I'm running out of things to say to reach the minimum characters for the review to be published........oh, here we are, finally.
Westworld: Que Será, Será (2022)
Die dead horse
This just got so convoluted by the ending, I was praying for it to just STOP! How many back and forth scan we do with the main characters being killed and coming back?
Keeper of the Ashes: The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders (2022)
Selfish promotion for Kristin Chenoweth's career
Great story here somewhere, but Kristin Chenoweth just keeps pushing her agenda through the entire documentary. If I'm the parents here, I'm not pleased with that aspect. Could have been at least an 8 without her.
Ray Donovan: The Movie (2022)
Poor attempt to wrap up the series
Seems like they made this just to make it. Not much thought put into what you grew to enjoy of a good storyline in the series. I am unsure if I liked it better with all the loose ends? Or this attempt to wrap it up. I wasn't impressed.
Deep Water (2022)
Slow moving but great story
The term thriller isn't really a good description, suspenseful fits better. Good storyline, once it gets moving, it's a little more gripping. The way it ended was a little weak, won't say anything more to avoid spoilers.
Condor (2018)
Great spy show!
The only reason this show isn't a 10 in my eyes is how long they're taking between seasons. I understand that Covid slowed it, but 2 seasons in 4 years? Made in the less adventurous ways of a Bond film (they stretch it across 10 hours rather than 2) it definitely is in the same realm as Jack Ryan. We'll worth the watch. Hoping for season 3 soon!
Dog (2022)
Great family movie
Having raised German Shepherds, which the Belgian malinois is close to, but on steroids...lol this movie really struck a chord. Funny, sad, happy, predictable Hollywood movie but definitely different. Will buy this one at some point.
The Afterparty: Yasper (2022)
Didn't sign on for a musical
This episode has one of the funnier actors (he's sometimes over the top) as the main character, but he had a song early that was funny and informative (didn't know Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly, is this true?). Second song, I was like really? Do we need to sing the script? Third song I left the room. Not a fan of musicals usually.
The Afterparty: Aniq (2022)
Worth your time
Great cast, seems funny. This episode was good. Not many funny series that are original coming out on streaming services, this is both, funny and original.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
I want this 4 hours of my life back!
Horrible writing, horrible acting...this is above Kristen Bell to do such a low budget series. And someone needs to teach the writer what comedy is. Winos should be pissed how they're portrayed in this series. And the therapist got his degree from a Cracker Jack box based off the end of the series.
Yearly Departed (2021)
Even worse than the 2020 review
Not sure what else to say. Last years review was bad, unlike 2021 transition in where we had much the same, this one got worse, which is hard to believe that was possible.
Yearly Departed (2020)
A not so funny year in review
If you want to hear I requested critiques on politics and racism, this is your jam. Don't waste your time. The year in review on Netflix was much funnier!
False Positive (2021)
Still not sure what I just watched
It was horrible to say the least. It jumps back and forth between reality and her delusions. It starts off normal, but the further into it you get, reality and her mindset are jumbled back and forth and at the end you get the gist, but you realize you want that time of your life back to do something productive, like use the bathroom.
Only Murders in the Building: The Boy from 6B (2021)
This is supposed to be a TV show
If I wanted to read a book, I wouldn't have turned on the TV. Dumbest concept to make an entire episode in subtitles. This is the real crime here.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
This movie was a black mark on the Soprano legacy
For such a great show, this movie was nothing short of a 10 star disappointment. You barely saw the influence discussed, the first half had little to do with the second half, key characters that played "huge roles" in Tony's life growing up were hardly a footnote. This movie had such promise and "SPOILER ALERT":
Tony told Christopher some retiring cop killed his father, Tony wasn't there and it looks like it was junior?!? Why???
Drive (2011)
This review is typed in slow motion
I swear this is a 40 minute movie but all the slow motion scenes drag it out to an hour and 40 minutes. Good plot with some good actors, not sure what went wrong, but it did in a big way.
