The Audition (2015)
The Audition: A Disappointing Departure from Artistic Integrity in the Glare of Commercialism
Unfortunately, this short film left me disappointed. It deviates from the essence of art and storytelling, resembling more of an advertisement for resorts and casinos. The involvement of renowned actors and directors in such a commercial venture raises questions about the intersection of art and personal branding. The film's subpar direction and clichéd dialogue make it puzzling why Hollywood stars invest their time in promoting resorts or casinos. It's a stark contrast to what one might expect from their illustrious careers. I wouldn't include this experience on my resume, reflecting a trend in today's acting landscape. Enjoy watching "The Audition" short film, but be prepared for a different cinematic experience.
Naga (2023)
Desert Dreams and Cinematic Realities: Decoding the Enigma of 'Naga'
Expressing my perspective on the film: It presents a new and thrilling story that blends reality and fantasy to explore life in Saudi Arabia. However, the film appears to be longer than necessary, leading to a sense of boredom due to the lack of excitement and unclear scenes. The cinematography style is somewhat unique, but there is repetitive use of the "dutch angle" technique and loud music, which may be more annoying than captivating. The director could benefit from more future experience to enhance scene direction and understand the psychological angles of each scene. Nevertheless, such positive steps in Saudi cinema are encouraged, and I look forward to seeing more films in the future that offer quality approaching international cinema.
Triangle (2009)
I had to close the film before ending it.
In my virtual perspective, the initial premise shows promise, leaving room for anticipation as Jess hints at forthcoming events. However, the repetitive exploration from various angles dampens the film's appeal, causing a sense of monotony with the looping concept. While I generally appreciate such themes, the excessive depth became a drawback. The recurring intense music added to the challenge, inducing a headache. From my virtual standpoint, a director's proficiency lies in emotional escalation rather than resorting to jump scares or repetitive musical tactics. Unfortunately, this experience turned out to be a regrettable waste of time.
