Van élet a halál elött? (2002)
Stunning eyeopener
For followers of R.D. Laing, Thomas Szasz and to a lesser (but I guess also significant) extent Alan Watts, Stanislav&Christina Grof, Ken Wilber.
I understand he is somewhat famous because of his views/experiences with illegal substances, so if you absolutely hate hallucinogens/entheogens you can probably skip the last 20 or so minutes. The earlier part where he speaks about mental illnesses, love, (in)dependence, addiction, the state of psychotherapy, and more is just exceptional.
Mandatory and it's not even close. A pure observational documentary where you see/hear him talking all the time. No distracting images/animation/music. Thank you for that :)
Chance (2002)
I didn't connect at all
This movie had a lot of talking to the camera, and sometimes, a guy with a guitar and the world's most horrible lyrics ("take me down, to the ground") pops in from nowhere and summarizes the story. I thought these things (besides bad acting and nonexistent plot) were essential in order to avoid making a turkey.
I really should have known what this was when I saw the name Buffy mentioned in positive context. It was like an Friends episode, except all the characters were more ... eh, "alternative" than that Phoebe girl.
I just cannot recommend this to anyone I know. It's the most immature movie I've ever seen, in short: The least funny love story ever made.
BMX Bandits (1983)
This means everything to me
I and my brother rented this movie for our birthdays for, I don't know, something like five years in a row. Even though it might not be a philosophical masterpiece, it's one of the dearest memories I have from my childhood. I gave it a 10. I'm renting it again for my brother's bachelor party. If he ever finds a woman to marry, that is.
Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road (2002)
I am not deaf and I have my own opinions.
This is almost a "don't drink, smoke or do drugs"-movie that an average high school teacher could have made. The obviousness of the messages is just embarrassing, and as several other users have commented, you're not allowed to draw your own conclusions, the answers are repeated, repeated, repeated and repeated one more time just to be sure. Did I mention the obviousness of the messages? :)
