The Private Life of Samuel Pepys (2003)
Unfair critics
I read a few reviews of this before I saw it and they all said Steve Coogan acted like "Alan Partridge in a wig", well I'm sorry but he did nothing of the sort! He did a wonderful job, possibly his best acting job yet in my opinion. It is totally unfair for people to compare everything that Steve Coogan does to Alan Partridge. He is a very talented actor and watching this last night I think he proves it!
If Looks Could Kill (1996)
A good film with great acting!
This film is great. The acting is amazing, especially by Maury Chaykin and the wonderful Brad Dourif. It is definitely worth seeing, especially if you're, like me, a fan of Brad Dourif, which is honestly the only reason I started watching this film, but once it had started I couldn't turn away.
Urban Gothic (2000)
Am I the only viewer?
Most of the Urban Gothic episodes have been great. They really do make a nice change for horror fans as it is the only horror series I can think of that caters for their needs. So what I would like to know is why is it that I am the only one that thinks so? The series is given hardly any recognition. This surprises me greatly as many well known British faces have appeared in both series, such as Ray Burdis, Leslie Grantham, Lindsey Coulson, Richard O'Brien and Sean Maguire. The first series contains 13 half hour episodes. The first is 'Dead Meat' which shows the story of for friends bringing a corpse back to life. The second is 'Vampirology' which is a mock documentary in the life of a vampire (and in my opinion the best episode of the series, brilliant acting!) The third is 'Old Nick' which is the story of a murderous boy who thinks he's discovered the devil. The fourth is 'Lacuna' (another excellent episode) which is about two friends trying to steal drugs from a mental institute but are caught and believed to be patients. The fifth is 'Deptford Voodoo' which is basically about voodoo (and is probably the worst episode in the series). The sixth is 'Sum of The Parts' which is a story about 'evil' organs being transplanted into patients (another of the worse ones). The seventh is 'The One Where...' which is about a group of friends that have their desires fulfilled. The eighth is 'Cry Wolf' which is about a woman who falls in love with a 'werewolf'. The ninth is 'Be Movie' which is the story of a group of students who find themselves trapped in a horror movie, which has only one survivor. The tenth is 'Boys Club' which shows the story of Lenny Scratch, a man with such a desire to be accepted as a hard guy he finds himself sacrificing his father. The eleventh is 'Pineapple Chunks' which is the story of pineapple-fuelled aliens, amazingly naff, but quite funny. The twelfth is 'Turn On' which is about a robot who thinks that she's a woman. The last episode is 'Thirteen' which is about a journalist who is searching for a story, and finds his ultimate tale. Urban Gothic is definitely worth watching!
The Revengers' Comedies (1998)
Definitely one of the greats!
Since I saw this film when it was first aired in 1999 I was desperate to own it. I enjoyed it so much. Having also read the play I thought it was one of the best films I had ever seen. I finally managed to buy it after two years of searching, but it really is worth waiting two years for. The cast are amazing, especially Steve Coogan, who does an amazing job of playing the oily Bruce Tick. His acting is excellent, as is the rest of the celebrity cast. This is definitely one of the best British films I have ever seen, and is definitely worth watching, especially if you're a fan of British movies!
The Parole Officer (2001)
What's up with everyone? this movie's great!
I was looking forward to this film so much that I was was waiting outside the cinema an hour before it opened, and I have to say I wasn't the slightest bit disappointed. I expected nothing less than Steve Coogan's genius, and I think that was what the audience got-Steve Coogan's genius. Although many wouldn't agree I feel this film is very Cooganesque, how couldn't it be? It was written by the main man and Henry Normal, as most Steve Coogan productions are. The cast were great, except for maybe one bad choice, and the acting was great. So much effort was put into this, especially by Steve Coogan, and it paid off as they all created a British masterpiece! Keep up the good work Steve!
Dr. Terrible's House of Horrible (2001)
Give Steve Coogan a break!
Although the first couple of episodes were nothing special the rest of the series was quite funny. Alright, not laugh 'til your sick, but it had it's moments. People don't seem to be happy unless Steve Coogan's playing Alan Partridge or Paul Calf, but this was an attempt to do something different. The series could've been better, but it wasn't that bad! Give the poor guy a break!
