A Trick of the Mind (2006 TV Movie)
3/10
Predictable
9 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I figured out the "mystery" in the first ten minutes! All I saw was a modern version, tweaked with new plot.. version of Gaslight ('44) {OK, that might be a stretch but that's what *I* saw} The whole movie I keep trying to find SOMETHING to surprise me into not believing what I thought... but in the end, it was disappointing that what I thought.. was true. The acting... was OK, but the love story was a reach to see. I'm not up on commenting on acting... just the movie as a whole. The only surprise I saw, was how and who she actually got help from. That's the only part that kept me guessing and questioning myself as to how elaborate the plan/plot was. The movie might have done a bit better to lengthen the romance or not spread other concepts out so thin, or maybe not include so many extra details. I guess the wonderful misdirection of Sixth Sense has spoiled me. I give it only a ***1/2 because it was predictable. If you didn't see Gaslight.. I guess you'll enjoy it. I preferred the drama towards the end of the movie. Enjoy.

Alien Lockdown (2004 TV Movie)
Disappointing for 21C TV
12 February 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I looked FORWARD to the movie considering the trailer. For the first 15 minutes I was trying to think of the words the movie brought forth and thought that the movie seemed so familiar. Finally, at 3/4 the way through the movie, I had the words... Think 'mad scientist' (after a genetics 'failure' that starts the movie.) around to protect his creation. Then a group of military that are dropped off and stranded on a frozen area by 'copter (the occasional countdown to its return just kept making me think of a countdown to the blessed end of the movie) out to kill the beast.

As the military get slowly picked off by the creature, we have to listen to inane chatter about things that are not relevant to anything. (lets let the beast know where we are by talking!) Their attempt to create background on the characters of the military personnel. (I kept waiting to find out that they were convicts thrown together to attempt a rescue that was hopeless, for all the concentration that they gave their task as they were picked off.) As the movie focused more and more on the only female of the group... I'd call her a Ripley (Alien series) wanna be. I had taped the movie and kept forcing myself to continue, but kept finding excuses to watch something else. I love Sci-Fi. I have watched many over and over even when it's an just an old B-movie. But this ranks with movies that you wouldn't want to watch unless you are a sci-fi nut like me, but with nothing else to watch... late late at night. The creature was believable until the end, but what takes the cake is seeing the ending scenes of the creature (man in fancy lizard suit leaping like a frog) jump in blood induced motivation... and almost lick the woman a la Ripley style. Fortunately it ended and let me delete the movie wondering, if they wanted to destroy the monster, why didn't they just do it in the first place? I'll finish by saying, painfully predictable.

Who is daddy, really?
29 March 2001
I missed the first 15mins.. but a widow with two kids goes to the father's home town of Bailey's Mistake and the more questions she asks, the more confused she gets (and the more frustrated WE get!) The kids come across a goat that will NOT leave them alone... flying children, healing powers.. an adult neighbor with a tail. A few things are revealed... but not enough by the ending. I think it's a movie about finding your roots and finding a home to call your own with friends. No matter how oddball. It is a very nice movie.. But not one I would have chosen to pay to see if it was in theater. A good idea, but not up to Disney's usual standards of making sense.

For once... sequels are better.
26 November 2000
I went with my 3 daughters and whole family.(husband and inlaws) We all loved it. The music scores was just right, and I thought it was VERY good. Two new characters are introduced. The locales were true to life. The detail was amazing. And after the movie... I had to remind myself that it was made for the kiddies. It's not something that an adult will groan as 'the obligatory movie' for their child that they have to suffer thru as their chaperone. Knowing the characters before-hand is a plus... then you would know/understand what's going on with the characters, because everyone is there at some point. For a kid's cartoon... it was very good. two thumbs up and in perspective, it's for the kids.
